Daybreakers is an upcoming vampire film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_films) written and directed by Peter and Michael Spierig. The film stars Ethan Hawke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethan_Hawke), Willem Dafoe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willem_Dafoe) and Sam Neill (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Neill). Filming took place in Australia from July to September 2007. Daybreakers is scheduled to be released on January 8, 2010.

In 2019, a plague transforms the world's population into vampires. With fewer humans to provide blood, the vampires seek to farm the remaining humans and to find a way to continue their existence. A secret team of vampires uncover a way that would rescue the human race.

Hawke described the film as an allegory of man's pacing with natural resources, "We're eating our own resources so people are trying to come up with blood substitutes, trying to get us off of foreign humans." The actor also said that despite the allegory, the film was "low art" and "completely unpretentious and silly".

Looks interesting. Excuse my ignorance but I thought the song at the end sounded like Brand New. I see it's not but thought it was funny.

Saw this trailer two months ago. I think it actually looks really sick.

I have no desire to see most vampire flicks, but I might see this one due to Willem Dafoe and Ethan Hawke.

Edit: Wow, so far it's 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Granted there are only 9 reviews...

At least it ain't Twilight, so it will at least be the best vampire movie since Blade plus it looks great with its great cast.

Worded that funny, haha. It is wide, but the only cinema close to me at school is an indie theater. I hope this isn't 'too big' for it.

The song is running up that hill by placebo and its sick - thought it sounded like Jonny Nolan personally.

The guys at AICN adored this flick so I have high hopes. Love the overall concept of the film as well as the cast

Ah, it's the opposite for me. The closest indie theater is 90 minutes away in Austin... anyway I hope you see it one way or another. I'd poke my head in the horror thread to talk about Daybreakers but I don't need to subject myself to that.

You are looking forward to seeing a movie you think is going to be bad? What?

this film might actually lead me to the theater, first time in years. the concept is so cool, I'm just nervous because there's gotta be a reason, other than genre, that it sat on the shelf for almost 4 years.

still excited as hell from the previews and reviews. (http://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/daybreakers-2009)

Just got back from seeing this. I thought it was pretty good as far as vampire movies go. The concept was pretty well executed, but I wish they wrapped up the ending a little bit better.

Really did not like this. The acting was awful, the writing was mediocre, though it was nice to look at. I was expecting something so much better, and maybe I just went in with too high of expectations knowing both Sam Niel and Willem Dafoe were in this. It was also really predictable, and I could see the plot "twists" coming from a mile away. I thought the concept was cool, but just collapsed under the clusterfuck of flaws it had.

movie pretty much sucked. they could have done so much more with it but it just failed. some of Dafoe's lines were pretty hilarious though.

My thoughts exactly. It had the chance to be soooooo much fucking more, but they really messed it up. Thought the vampire car was cool as hell though.

yeah that was cool. I felt they did absolutely nothing with the "subsiders" when that could have actually been a really cool story line.

I feel like they couldn't decide if they wanted to be a horror film, and drama, or a rip off of I Am Legend.

Yeah this movie started out pretty nice but once the green goblin showed up the whole thing went downhill. Honestly this is not a film I wanted comic relief in. He ruined the tone of the entire film with his stupid lines.

I was definitely disappointed. It could have been so much more than it was.

I actually loved it. Thought all the blood and exploding bodies etc were cool. Wasn't expecting a lot, so maybe that's why? The only thing I didn't like was the very end. Also, yeah, the "Green Goblin" did cheese up this movie a bit.

"i felt like a god damned fried chicken" is the running joke on my floor for probably the next month or so. this movie was so bad it's funny.

defoe's story of how he became human again =   lame on so many levels.
i also feel keanu reeves should've played the main character. there were so many cheese parts in this movie.

anyone else think it was funny that the main character of the movie was named edward?
