View Full Version : I really don't know who'll sell more in the first week - Paramore or AFI

As you people might know, the two are releasing new albums on the same day later this month. AFI have been proven they can go to #1, but maybe they'll hold steady, or Paramore will rise faster, or something. So what do you think - brand new eyes or Crash Love?

Paramore; The Stephanie Meyer legion will rise up to crush AFI. I'll be buying the AFI disk maybe, need to hear a few tracks beforehand.

I'd prefer Paramore to succeed.

agreed. I reall dont like AFI because Davey's voice is way too nasally. I like Paramore alot more because they've matured alot and have a darker sound now.

AFI have dropped out of the spotlight since decemberunderground really, and Paramore have consistently been held in it since Riot!, so I'm gonna say Paramore will.

They dropped out of the spotlight after Sing the Sorrow too and what happened with Decemberunderground? Oh thats right...it's debut was #1 on Billboard with 182,00 copies sold it's first week.

Not saying Paramore wont sell more...but AFI being out of the spotlight has nothing to do with it. They've got a pretty large grassroots following.

I'm just basically saying I think the current hype behind Paramore will definitely have an effect. I know that AFI does have a very large fanbase established and whatnot, but with Paramore's still growing due to hype and of course the whole twilight crowd getting in are aspects that I think will give them a fairly big chance at outselling AFI in the first week at least.

the difference is decemberunderground had the benefit of a huge single before it debuted. crash love doesnt. makes a big difference.

Paramore will win, they've got the mass marketing going at full speed, have been for months. I'm guessing they'll chime in at number 2 on the charts.

AFI lost steam with decemberunderground, but still have a decent base. I'm guessing they'll come in at around 28.

Both will make pretty strong debuts on the charts, but paramore will be higher on the charts for longer.

What you are saying has nothing to do with the discussion....he made a point that AFI have been out of sight for awhile and THAT would be the reason AFI's new album wouldnt sell as much as Paramore first week. I never said AFI would outsell Paramore OR match their past record sales...things in the industry are different now. And of course the single makes a difference, no one ever said it didnt.

Im willing to bet the house you are wrong...28? That's crazy...I would guess top 10 easily...if not 5.

Honestly, I have no idea. Paramore is definitely are a trendy band that plenty of teens are listening to and willing to support, but AFI has a very large and dedicated following.

In the end I'm guessing Paramore will do better but AFI won't be too far behind.

i wasnt arguing with you. i agree with all that. just adding that the single and lack thereof this time around will be a factor.

Paramore, because they blew up so fast in a short period of time, and it's really popular to like them right now. I will be getting a copy of both, though.

paramore.

i have no interest in AFI whatsoever, i will however be buying paramore's new album.

Also, the thing is that neither single (Ignorance or Medicate) is that huge, though I guess AFI's single needs another week or two to rise and have a video made for it, to make a fair call.

hicsuntdracones
09/03/09, 02:01 PM
both will probably sell a fair few copies but i'd say that brand new eyes will chart higher.

paramore will absolutely i think. Riot! is still fresh in so many peoples minds.
That being said, I think BNE will be their best record to date, but will do worse than Riot! because of the darkness on the record and it wont fit with their mainstream audience

ApricotChick

Paramore... Needless to say the Twlight publicity will certainly help, but even without it, I think brand new eyes would still be a competitor.

Paramore. They seem to appeal to more types of people than AFI. Even my mom likes them.

I think AFI would headline over Paramore if they played a show or went on tour together... they may co-headline... but I would give the edge to AFI.

But in CD sales... I think Paramore will pull this one out.
