View Full Version : The I'm Holding Out On The Daisy Leak Until Sept 22

Just curious, is anyone else still "Daisy" free still? I've been dying to hear this album for years now and once word of the leak hit last Saturday I was like oh shit gotta hear that right now. But then I remembered I told myself months ago I would not download this and listen to it early because this album is something special to me compared to any other leaked album. It's like peeking at your christmas presents early and then when it becomes christmas day its just not the same. I'm not strictly doing this to support BN because even if I did download it last week, I've had it pre-ordered for the last few weeks. Just dont want to hear it and then be like "okay now I have to wait four more years to hear anything new from them."
So basically; has anyone not caved yet and still not heard Daisy and as excited as a school boy for it? And I dont care if you heard it and think its not great, dont come in here to say that.
And sadly; I have heard the live versions of Bride and Gasoline and bought At The Bottom on itunes (which i also was trying not to do, but caved)

I pre-ordered the shirt bundle so. I can't wait to find out the address where I can send my two dollars in.

I've listened to At The Bottom, and watched live videos of Bride, Gasoline, and Bed. But I've waited three and half years, I can wait another three weeks to hear the record. When I get my pre-order through the mail, I will be making a forty minute drive to listen to it.

im holding off just for the satisfaction of not being part of the annoying hype wave that swallows this band. and anyway, based on what ive heard from other people whose opinions i respect, i'll be underwhelmed if im expecting another TDAG. so im just being patient and when it comes out i'll pass an honest judgment on whether or not i like it.
if this were 2007, i would have leapt on that leak and convinced myself that i liked it until i actually did.

It's funny because I knew who posted that before I looked at the username. See you in the next Say Anything thread.
I listened to most of the songs on youtube. But I wasn't really hooked, I hear it's a grower. I'll probably buy it if it's like $10.

I am waiting for a couple reasons:
1. The leak is low quality and I want CD quality.
2. My new Grado headphones aren't shipped yet and I want to listen to this CD on them the first time.

I'm waiting, too. I've only heard At the Bottom and I've had on repeat since it was released. It sucks because I can't go into the Brand New or Daisy threads. I want to know as little as possible. I'm so excited for Daisy I'm thinking about taking off work to sit around all day and listen to it. /fanboy

Spoiler:
Daisy is a concept album and the little fox from the cover is the main character on a political quest where he's trying to prove Obama is the antichrist.
But Daisy (that's the name of the fox), dies at the end.

You must not have ears...haha. I can understand people not liking the record or it not being their thing, but boring? They throw a god damn wall of sound at you like every 20 seconds. Again, I could understand someone saying "Wow, that's pretty grating, i'm turning this off.", but boring?

It's boring.
It's boring because it isn't that great. When a work of art is exciting and engaging, it grabs you and pulls you in. This album doesn't do that. It has a lot of loud and soft parts, a great deal of discord, and is overall a very disjointed affair. While this may work in some contexts, this feels like it was going through the motions. The loud parts are louder than loud can be; the soft parts almost put me to sleep. The lyrics, too, are just contrived and uninteresting. Thematically, the album is almost the same as TDAG (without the Kate Flynn bit). What the band have to say here isn't interesting. It's the same kind of "woe is me, I'm a horrible person, existence is wicked and evil and painful" shtick. It's not monotonous by any stretch, but I'd certainly say it's boring when what it conveys is fairly cliche, and the means through which this is conveyed is ultimately not particularly effective. It has its moments, and it's got some good--GREAT, even--musical instances, but overall it's just uninteresting.

I guess I just don't agree David. I feel that the record is more dynamic, has its lyrical moments(just as every brand new album has terrible lyrics and decent lyrics), and flows much better than any other album the band has put out. Maybe the album is catering to my taste more than you (I love losing my hearing while listening to this record, I really do), but I think that it is at least a good album, if not great.

Understandable. I honestly love Vices, Sink, and Gasoline. I just don't think the album as a whole is very successful, and I wish it weren't such a crapshoot at times. It does, however, flow very nicely. I just don't think they played their strengths (the heavy bits) enough at all.

Right on, those are my favorites too. I agree about them not playing their heavy bits, kind of bums you out going from these huge, dense sound walls to a song like You Stole or Bed. Makes me kind of wonder if that was a conscious decision on their part to cater to their fans rather than actually make the record they wanted to make like they said they did.

I was so excited when I heard "Vices" for the first time, and then completely apathetic by the time "Bed" was over. It was really, really frustrating, because my first impression was FANTASTIC. Vices is basically the song that should have defined this album, and yet they kept trying to play to two aesthetics that they just can't make work together that well. Also, the lyrics (as I've said over and over again) really killed it for me. The rhyme scheme doesn't work at all, especially given the sound and the delivery of some of the most cheesy rhymes I've ever heard.

This band means alot to me, and the experience of listening to TDAG the day before it came out on a CD was spectacular. I intend to do that again, so I've held off on listening to the leak. Listened to At The Bottom 4 times, really like the song.. and glad to hear other people have patience and discipline to wait til Sept. 22 too.

^ Yeah I know.. unfortunately I've heard a bunch of crap I'd rather not have heard. So I'll think I'll probably d/l the song "bed" alone since I won't be so letdown after "vices" cause i'll have heard it already cause apparently it seems to be the universal opinion that it's a letdown.

After Vices honestly "bed" is a nice mood change (a break basically). In the end, I find myself skipping vices the most out of any songs on the album, it's quite in your face.
The only complaint I could understand people have with bed is it is somewhat repetitive and doesn't quite build up like some of the other songs on the cd.

i would much rather see these guys doing something ambitious like this, rather than just cater to what people want to hear and release the same album over and over...or have one track "define the sound" of the record. that would be super lame.

I listened to "At The Bottom" like 2 or 3 times, that's it. Not really that hard considering I find leaks to be stupid and don't ever feel the need or see the point of downloading one. Some of you really need to learn self-control and preoccupy the time you spend "anticipating" albums like this and fill it with the many other great releases that are always around. Trust me, the release date will just kind of come out of nowhere
