BackDrop – The EP

Record Label: Unsigned

Release Date: May 17, 2009

Summer is, without a doubt, the season of pop-punk. Providing one of the first offerings in this season, BackDrop released a positive omen for what became a hit-and-miss pop-punk season. The EP opens up with "Halfway There," a catchy, sugary, upbeat song that sets the stage for an enjoyable effort. Through the next four songs, "All We Have," "Sitting Lonely," and "Wish You Were Mine," and "Inside," the band proves that they have what it takes to make solid pop-punk tunes. Through these four tunes, the band explores the poppiest and punkiest sides of pop-punk, with Ramones-era shouts ("All We Have"), and sugary hooks reminiscient of the Fueled by Ramen roster ("Sitting Lonely"). However, the ultimate delight on this EP is closer "Inside." Fueled by an amazing chorus, and vocals that perfectly match the guitar line, this track alone proves that this band will go far. Overall, this is an excellent EP, led by choice cuts "Halfway There" and "Inside." I can't wait to hear more form this band, since this EP will be on my iPod for ages to come.
