So I'm planning to play an open mic night on Thursdays at this coffee place my friend works at. And eventually at this bar on sundays.. so anyone have some song recommendations to play? The coffee place is full of girls..probably wanting to listen to pretty acoustic stuff like john johnson or the goo goo dolls. Maybe also would appreciate some beatles or other great guitarwork. I'm not really a pro at guitar so probably like to play more "simpler" stuff. Here's some songs I've learned thus far to play:
1- untitled 01 - brand new
2 - jumper - third eye blind
3 - save yourself - sense field
4 - good riddance - green day
5 - sometimes jacks rule the realm - 311
6 - play crack the sky - brand new
7 - hear you me - jimmy eat world
8 - hurt - johnny cash (nin cover)
and working on
here comes the sun - beatles
your hand in mine - explosions in the sky
norwegian wood - beatles
hallelujah - jeff buckley
wonderwall - oasis
age six racer - dashboard confessional
anything else the babes would swoon over?

I was in Starbucks one day and they were playing "Cannonball" by Damien Rice on the speakers and it was quite heavenly, listening to that song while sipping an iced cafe latte.
Yesss, Damien Rice is definitely a good choice. Anything by him would work. A lot of Elliott Smith's material suits a coffee house environment too.
Also:
Bright Eyes - The First Day Of My Life
Dashboard Confessional - Hands Down
Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Follow You Into The Dark

Yeah guy. Girls are genetically predisposed to like shitty remnants of '90s pop radio and awful surf-acoustic drivel. I mean, it's a fair assumption, right? Each and every time I cross paths with a member of the opposite sex at a coffee shop, I immediately think "she'd lose her panties if I played a Third Eye Blind song acoustically."

Have you considered anything Jeff Buckley? Good choice on the JEW tune. You can also throw in some Butch Walker with one of these: Going Back/Going Home, Here Comes The, or Take Tomorrow (One Day at a Time) as they're simple and fun to play.

Yeah, Hallelujah is on my list to learn..probably cut it down since it's a long song, and a challenge to play (at least for me)
don't do good riddance... god.

Yeah, don't know why I even listed it.
I'll probably throw in some jason mraz and death cab.. i dunno about hands down, I used to play that at this other coffee shop and it seems like just an old song people rather hear something else. My favorite song to play was "Okay I Believe You.." by brand new, but I think there's something better for the environment.

I know it's been mentioned, but Cannonball by Damien Rice and Mixtape by Butch Walker are winners. Though a lot of the songs mentioned are a little darker (hear you me is great but sad)... like it's been said, lighten the mood with some Death Cab or Jack Johnson (guaranteed to get you some), Better Together or Sitting, Waiting, Wishing. I like girls, I like playing guitar. I didn't learn to play guitar to get girls, I learned to play guitar because I love music. Girls like guys who play guitar, why not play a lil guitar to get some female attention?? I'm pretty damn sure it won't get me laid, so if playing shitty acoustic covers in an attempt to get myself out there and possibly meet someone special is so wrong, THEN I DON'T WANT TO BE RIGHT!

"Why not play a little guitar for some female attention?" is like your favorite band saying "Why not write some pop-ditties to make some pocket change?". You're a sell-out. Play for the sake of playing, and don't focus on the perks. Let alone make a thread about how to achieve said perks.

What you're saying is, if you're a girl and like to hang at a coffee shop, the chances are high that you'll like acoustic pop.
Take a gender studies class. There's no correlation between a socially constructed idea of "gender" who frequent coffee shops and enjoying a particular kind of acoustic pop. I've met many girls in many cities over three countries of varying ages who are exceptions to your sexist "rule."
