I have first run of the #1, tee hee, I win! I was thinking about getting it graded and selling it, I like my copies too much. I love that series though, absolutely awesome. Them becoming the new Galacti was just badass. Loved that series, continues to show that Robert Kirkman is one of the best writers in comics today.

starts in may. much as i tried to keep my expectations reasonable, i'm pretty excited for it. mark millar is one of the top 3 comic writers right now (along with grant morrison and geoff johns) and steve mcniven is in my opinion the #1 best artist working in comics today.

I do love Millar, Johns and Morrison, but come on now! We're leaving out all kinds of amazing writers. Those are the big 3 for strictly big stories. What about Kirkman? Brian K. Vaughn?! Willingham? Whedon?! Ennis? Ellis? So many great writers, but those three you listed are BA. Millar's work on the Ultimates and Johns on Flash and Infinite Crisis are definitely some of the best work out there lately. Also, Morrison's rendition of the Authority really stepped that series up a notch. Too bad other writers had to KILL it. Obviously All Star Superman also kicks ass. McNiven does own though, although I may have to go with Mark Buckingham or Scott McDaniel as my favorite artist, Buckingham with his just absolutely beautiful framing and character work, and McDaniel for making the best superhero art work known to man.

Haha. I know nothing about comics. I was raised on superheros via cartoons, television, movies, and video games. I saw an add recently for that Civil War and though I have no idea what it's actually about (I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's about a war between factions, but that's the extent) it looks pretty awesome.

oh believe me, that list was no slight at the other writers out there. i just think that ultimates, all star superman, and infinite crisis/green lantern: rebirth all represent different sides of what a perfect superhero comic should be. if i was going to expand to a top 5, i'd include brian k vaughn and joss whedon, but i also love the work brian bendis, mark waid, garth ennis, warren ellis, kurt busiek, and j. michael straczynski (in supreme power, not asm) are doing right now, and even then i feel like i'm forgetting people. as far as artists go mcniven's at the top, but right there with him are frank quitely, j. g. jones, john cassiday, bryan hitch, ed mcguinness, darwyn cooke, mike weiringo, greg land, carlos pacheco, and the kubert brothers.

I'm the only person I know with a first print of number 1, and I'm so happy I picked it up. The only reason I even grabbed it was because Kirkman's name was on the cover. Great series.

You said Wieringo! He is such an unsaid influence on artist's, he has the perfect mix between cartoony and realism, he's the man. I know you were listing your top 3, I just wanted to start a debate, and I can't really argue with your guys. They are all awesome. Also, I agree with the Straczynski thing, his superhero work is subpar in comparison to his more M rated stuff, Supreme Power was amazing, as was Midnight Nation (What an amazing work that was) and Rising Stars.

This series was supposed to be amazing. The artwork is mindblowing. Spiderman looks so cool. Civil war is a pretty cool idea. But I just wonder when this "SUMMER HUMONGOUS COMPANY WIDE CROSSOVER" fad will end. I dont need all that hooplah to keep reading comics, plus its so expensive to keep up with everything, you end up buying a ton of books. That said, I still think as long as the ideas are creative enough, keep doing it. I dont think anything will top DC's Identity Crisis though, that was awesome.
