After a successful headline run on Taste of Chaos, Thrice (http://www.absolutepunk.net/thrice) is in the midst of raising awareness for The Invisible Children Movement (http://www.invisiblechildren.com), aiming to raise consciousness worldwide for the plight of children in Uganda who leave their homes every night and hike into towns to sleep in central squares for fear of abduction. The ICM is organizing the "Global Night Commute" on April 29th to heighten awareness and expand educational opportunities for Uganda's children.
The organization is asking people to leave their homes for one night and commute to their local downtowns to sleep in the street in a demonstration to the government to act to end the war in Northern Uganda. It is happening in 136 cities, the cities are listed at invisiblechildren.com (http://www.invisiblechildren.com) and folks can sign up for their city instantly. For more info, also check www.thrice.net (http://www.thrice.net).

anyone who has a spare 15 minutes, and i know you all do. check out www.invisiblechildren.com (http://www.invisiblechildren.com) and read about what it's all about. support this organization. watch the documentary. it's one of the most powerful pieces of material i have ever watched. if you don't have time to check out the site here are some facts. the documentary is about an unseen war that has been going on for the past 19 years in Uganda. everynight thousands of children averaging ages 5-12 commute into their towns out of their villages in fear of being kidnapped by rebel soldiers aka the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). These soldiers come into their villages and raid it by sometimes killing their famlies and abducting these children and take them into the jungle to either a. train them to become soldiers or b. torture them and kill them. well over 50,000 children have been abducted, and that is the only ones they have records for. most of these kids don't even have records that they are alive. basically it is a modern day holocaust that is taking place.
this is where you can do something to change this situation. on April 29th, in 136 cities, we are participating in a global night commute. we are commuting to a designated area in our downtown area and sleeping for the night hoping to raise awareness to our government that we want change to occur. every person that commutes will write a letter to their congressman telling them we want change. if congress receives enough letters about this situation they are going to be forced to take action. join the movement. you can spare 10 hours of your life. if you don't, these children will continue to die.
watch the videos/trailers at www.myspace.com/invisiblechildren (http://www.myspace.com/invisiblechildren) www.invisiblechildren.com (http://www.invisiblechildren.com) to hear all of the things i just typed.
if you are interested in taking part in the global night commute, make sure you sign up at www.invisiblechildren.com (http://www.invisiblechildren.com) and they will email you all the information you need about the night.
i love that thrice not only can make amazing music, but all of the social change they sing about, they work for. they give so much money from every CD to causes such as this, they take time out of their busy rock star lives, they make sure everyone knows what they stand for. Damn respectable guys.

An amazing band that are amazing guys that are leading amazing lives. Congrats to Thrice for being stand up people. For those that aren't in favor of giving aid to foreign countries or whathave you and only live in the US bubble and only want to help ourselves...well we already have freedom, what more could we want? These kids have to fight for their freedom every damn night. Thoughts and prayers go out to these kids!

well spoken. it's horrible how people can honestly live in their own self absorbed society and just feel completly numb to what else is going on in our world. i have talked to people about the whole situation and i honestly i have gotten the response that "that's Africa, we live in America, you can't compare the 2 worlds."
why not?

Thrice is awesome, I love the new album. Denison Witmer is also supporting this stuff too, Little Flowers is inspired by Invisible Children. This movement is great, and people should get behind this.
To marchfaster: I'd highly recommend watching the documentary, even if you don't support aid. The purpose of the Global Night Commute is not to give aid to Uganda (yes, Invisible Children is raising money and giving aid), but to put pressure on the government to send a peace envoy to aid in negotiations (like we did in Sudan).

hometownzero put it perfectly. and i don't understand your reasoning behind calling me ignorant for supporting a cause such as this. i would like to know why you aren't for aiding africa as well. please explain.

um im not ignorant
its called a fucking opinion
I love when bands change their sound i usually embrace it (finch, a static lullaby, the starting line)
but with thrice i did but after a while i stopped listening to the cd. its great it really is, the talent is up the ass all over the cd and its top notch production. but its not like the old cds that i keep on repeat.
your one of the people i love to hate? labeling me ignorant off one comment. sweet stuff yo
