I have always really liked Saosin. What are some similar bands that I may like? Their new cd was such a disappointment.

i'd say Emarosa and Circa Survive just right there, but it also really depends what you specifically like about Saosin. they have a lot of appealing points which is why a bunch of people who listen to different things like them.

Maybe try Of Machines if you like their heavier side.

Closure in Moscow is a great band but I wouldn't necessarily recommend them to someone looking for Saosin'ish bands. Secret and Whisper would be my #1 suggestion. Good band and great guys.

Edit - Also check out The Fireship. They're a local Chicago band with plenty of potential.

I posted a HUUUUUGE Yahoo Answers question on this very topic.

BANDS THAT (really) SOUND LIKE Saosin or Secret and Whisper!!!

Before I kick this off, remember that these are all just my opinions. Secondly, I'm no expert in music, so I might be bad at describing aspects of it accurately. let's begin. The question has been asked, many, many times, including by myself. I have personally went on an insane search to find all the bands musically similar to Saosin and Secret and Whisper. I know tons of you post-hardcore fans have been waiting for bands like this, since Secret and Whisper pushed their album back AGAIN, and a ton of you feel as though Saosin's second LP was an insult to their legacy and your taste in music. So listen up. Here are my results:

1. CONDITIONS http://www.myspace.com/conditionsband

Found this band thanks to purevolume, before it decided to virtually commit suicide by hosting nothing but indie-popz. I've had Conditions on my list for a while now, and they never get old. They've churned out enough music unsigned for an album and a half, and now recently they've gotten signed and should be working on creating an entirely new LP. To be honest I must say that this band is much MUCH more similar to Saosin than Secret and Whisper. The best asset this band has is in their vocalist. He really knows how to hold notes. They can get a little slow and less thunderous in certain songs (such as fine young firecrackers) but overall this band is an incredible compliment to the non-screamo post-hardcore scene. THIS BAND IS AVAILABLE ON AMAZON AND ITUNES. =D

2. CAPULET (australian) http://www.myspace.com/wearecapulet

You won't believe how I found this. I googled "saosin", "secret and whisper", and "conditions" together. I found this band and another on a random blog someone wrote just for fans like you and me. This band is the most incredible band I've ever found from Australia. Similar to Saosin, even a little bit faster, but not too fast. I must say that I love the lead singer's voice; he has just the right amount of accent to make it really cool sounding. The super standout tracks for me are Scratching The Walls and Machines (not available on their myspace). They're one of the sorts of bands who keep the same guitar melody through the entire song and make it stronger and stronger, until it becomes absolutely infectious by the end chorus. Unfortunately for us they only have a 5-song EP right now and it'll be one heck of an adventure to get yourself a physical copy if you live in the states (I know because I did it. X_x) but it's well worth it. Sadly, again, it's not on international itunes either. Good luck to you all, but this is a phenomenal band to watch.

3. ALL FORGOTTEN (UK) http://www.myspace.com/allforgotten

I found this along with Capulet on my crazy search method. Unfortunately I haven't been able to purchase this particular band's EP partly because I'm poor right now, but I digress. Again, we stick to the Saosin/S&W theme with pounding bass and drums and soaring guitars. That's the point of this question, isn't it...? Honestly, out of the lot, this band has the most interesting lyrics; check Love From A Mother to see my point. Their EP, Transitions, is indeed available on iTunes.

4. AMYST http://www.myspace.com/amystmusic

I found this band ironically through a youtube video of Secret and Whisper's Warrior (Southern Arrowwood). They were blatantly trolling
with messages such as "we sound like secret and whisper, check out our myspace" I checked for laughs, but I ended up with my jaw dropped
instead. This band takes what Secret and Whisper has done and moves it a little further to the darker, edgier end. their lyrics are incredible, albeit short and impossible to understand thanks to the lead singer's ability to go higher than Anthony Green from Circa Survive. Their EP, The Eastern Silhouette (also available on itunes), features three versions of The Elephant. i must say that my favorite of these is "The Elephants"; the backing vocals just pull it through amazingly. This is the closest band I have yet found to join in the genre that Secret and Whisper created for themselves. People criticize Amyst for being ridden with auto-tune or for stealing S&W's sound, but I for one was ecstatic to find a band that fit into the style so well. They're in need of a bass player, so all you godly bassists out there, check them out. Despite all their criticism, my opinion is that this band saw Secret and Whisper and were inspired. So they acted on it. Once again, available on itunes.

5. SENT BY RAVENS http://www.myspace.com/sentbyravens

I found this band on a completely unrelated escapade to my Saosin/Secret and Whisper addiction, but you find great things in unexpected places. I find Sent By Ravens to be a little more alternative-ish than a lot of the others present on this list, but it makes them unique in that regard. Their EP out now reflects that as well. Their pace is a bit slower than either Saosin or S&W, but the thundering drums and guitar are still there. One thing I find especially awesome about this band is that often times the different guitars line themselves up into epic unison, like in my favorite track, The Hungry King. I have a feeling this will be released with their new LP they are finishing up, to be released on March 16th, 2010. Now, they are a christian band, but don't let that turn you off, all you non-christians. The lyrics can be applied to more than just religious things. Available on amazon or itunes.

I saved the best for last.

6. ILLUMINATE THE SKY http://www.myspace.com/illuminatethesky

You all won't believe how I found this band either. They were trolling Secret and Whisper's myspace, begging S&W to put them on THEIR top friends, because supposedly "you guys (Secret and Whisper) are our biggest influence". So I decided to humor them, and I got hit by a hurricane of amazing. In my opinion, this band is the successful marriage of post-Translating the Name Saosin with Secret and Whisper, who out-Saosined Saosin. Unfortunately for Saosin, this band out-Saosins them as well. (tongue twister much?) Anyway, Illuminate The Sky is just breaking out. They have yet to record or produce, but they are completely done writing. Four of the songs that will appear on the LP are up on their myspace, and here's the best part: YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THEM FOR FREE if you sign up to their mailing list. Well worth it. My favorite song available is Exploring Disaster. The guitars are done in the style of Saosin's debut, and the bass is very fast paced and Secret and Whisper-esque. Just like Conditions, the vocalist is extremely fond of power-belting and owns at it (see: ending note of Exploring Disaster) For all of you who miss the glory days before In Search of Solid Ground came out, here's your new favorite band. =D A friend of mine also fell in love with this band, he said it was a mix
of Secret and Whisper and his favorite band, From Aphony. They're another band you might want to check out, although they don't fall exactly into the same style in my opinion.

Now, to wrap this up. I hope you all agree with me, first of all. Secondly, to keep this as a question format, if anyone knows of any other bands that give the same epic sound and edge as Saosin or Secret and Whisper, DON'T BE AFRAID TO LIST THEM. We'll all love you for it. Happy music hunting.

- Prince_of_Light

Before I end the post with just that, the obvious band you should check out is Secret and Whisper; since I make a blatant comparison between them and Saosin throughout. You'll also definitely want to check out Of Machines. You all can take my advice seriously, since I've spent a ton of time looking for stuff that follows Saosin's style to a T. But remember these are just my opinions.

Yeah lol I figured I got a little carried away, but whatever.

The only reason I really mentioned Capulet is Australian is because there's another Capulet that is American.

Definitely check out Illuminate the Sky though. Closest thing yet as far as I'm concerned.

You guys have a lot of potential. I don't mean to sound harsh, lol, but the vocals need work. I assume you're the singer, lol. It sounded like you were straining quite a bit on the highs. Perhaps you should go a little bit lower so you can draw the notes out more comfortably. I like it though, keep me updated.

Since I don't care whether I sound harsh or not, except for the very beginning, the vocals are horrible and largely out of tune. Screams were underwhelming.

Hands down. With their new album out in a few days it's a good time to check them out!

Great vocals, especially when pulling off live, in-tune harmonies, and often abstract yet powerful lyrics about finding yourself.

Check out their song "Better Life" and work backward from there. You won't regret it.

Standout songs for me:
