I heard a report on Fox News today saying that the FBI is looking to create a database for DNA, similar to the fingerprint data base.
Good idea or bad idea?

i personally think its a very bad idea. the basic premise makes sense, giving law enforcement another way to identify criminals, especially in this day and age of terrorism, but i don't think it is worth the cost, who knows what they could use that information for. its an invasion of privacy at the very least, but it could be much much worse than that.

Im against this but still for finger printing, becasue i dont see finger printing an invasion of privacy, i see it as more of an effective side punishment.

How is DNA tracking a bad idea? If you have nothing to hide, then why worry? Fingerprints are a little bit obsolete in the way that we can wear gloves while commiting a crime. DNA is almost infoulable. Why would it be bad to catch criminals?

because its ok for the govenrment to say, give us your DNA and we promise we won't use it for anything, but it's not ok for me to say, i promise i won't commit any crimes, so you don't need my DNA.

Excellent point. If they are willing to database our DNA, then what next? Video cameras in our homes... Slowly Americans are losing their rights. This is one step closer.

Did you know that when they introduced the Social Security Number, people were mad because they thought it would be used to track people? The government said it would not be used for such a thing. Try getting a credit card/accepted to college/get a job without a SSN. The SSN has became our identity, we are just 9 numbers arranged differently. One step further would be using barcodes.

do they fingerprint all individuals? no. just those in government positions and criminals for the most part. what is wrong with that? if a criminal has already commited a crime, why shouldnt his dna be on file?

its a little weird, but im still for it. but it would be perfect if they put cons on file and government personel, but you cant have your cake and eat it too.

i don't know if they keep it on file or what, but when you are arrested they can take DNA samples.

you don't have to give your social security to anyone other than social security and i believe the IRS, any where else that asks for it you legally do not have to give it to them. it is meant to be used for SS only, and cannot be used as a system of Identifacation.
