it's a little creepy but like most said, you can't eat and talk at the same time. when on lunch break i go out with my friends and i see many people eating alone. it's just personal preference i'd say.

I did this all the time in high school. I didn't exactly like it, but all my friends went to other schools so I didn't have much option. I have slight social anxiety, so it kind of sucked.
I try not to... it makes me feel so awkward and antisocial
even when I really want to sometimes

I did this at the last school I went to. For the last few weeks of me being there, because my friend had told everyone that I was on meth and some other shit (while I was on vacation so I couldnt combat the rumors). It was depressing because it was a tiny school and it felt like I was 5 instead of 15...then I quit going.
Before that, at public school, I would just skip lunch and go out with my friends to sleep or smoke or whatever they wanted to do.

I never have, but I usually feel bad for kids that sit alone unless they want to. One time I tried to sit with this kid who sat alone and he got up and walked away.
i pretty much sat alone at lunch all throughout my final year of high school

I've done this to people before. On my first day of middle school, I sat alone and these two girls came up to me and sat with me and I didn't know what to do so I sat there for a minute and then I got up and left.

I used to sit alone at 6th grade because all of my friends are older than I am. So I basically had that same situation. About 90% of my class are pretentious fools, 5 are complete asses/dumbfucks/and the other 5 are cool.

hahaha, thats so funny. thumbs up to you. I remember my freshman year I threw a skittle at this kid's brand new acoustic guitar he was showboating around......it stuck in the guitar, he was so upset.
Nah, but I never was alone for lunch, it was pretty tight; being an athlete, I congregated with other athletes in the band room and watched ESPN on the TV; worked out because one of them had a band teacher for a dad.
I also recall a month my senior year where I walked a mile to get Jamba Juice......literally about 25 times. I was addicted AND broke.

i don't really eat a lunch a lot, it's either breakfast and dinner, or breakfast and lunch, depending on my work schedule. I don't have a meal plan at my college so i'm usually making ramen noodles/hot pockets/chefboyardee(spelling?).
In high school i sat with a group of people, 2 of which are my best friends and roommates now and the others were douchebags.

In high school I didn't have that many friends in my grade, most of the people I hung out with were older, so my senior year I sat with a bunch of tools I barely talked to. So I felt like I was basically sitting by myself, except I didn't look like a fucking loser.

In high school I ate lunch alone 50% of the time, but I ate next to this weird kid who would have fake ninja fights with a tree, so I still ended up looking like the coolest motherfucker on the planet.
In college I eat alone 50% of the time because eating in the car beats the shit out of sitting on campus and wasting my break shooing away cigarette bummers.

I'm in high school, so no. The first day this year I only sat with one other person though, I felt weird. But then thankfully we both found a full table with semi-friends that are in my classes. Jesus though, isn't it always a mini-panic attack on the first day when it comes to lunch time though? In college though I can see that. I'm a bit shy.

Yes! We have three different kinds of schedules through the school week (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays we have periods 1-7, Wednesdays we have 1-4, and Thursdays we have 5-7), so that means three different lunches. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday I'm lucky enough to have it with my friend who can drive, so we just leave campus for lunch anyway. I'm not sure who I have lunch with tomorrow though, and I'm nervous about that.

Even though I have really bad social anxiety and was definetly not in the cool kid group in school, I always tried to at least sit with the other uncool kids at lunch. I felt that if I was sitting by myself, people would look at me weird and stare and stuff, and it'd just feel way too awkward.

Sitting alone at lunch? How old are we?
I stopped caring about who I sat with for less than 30 minutes maybe four years ago. A quiet lunch is a happy lunch for me, especially when you're dealing with nitwits all day.

I thought it was a bat and started screaming until I was crying.
Also, what is Jamba Juice? Is it a smoothie place? or does it have juice or is it just like a coffee place like starbucks?

I think when you get older you stop caring about this as much. I used to spazz about finding people to eat with, I didn't want to look like a loser, someone might see me and think I suck blah blah blah... Then I moved off campus and cooked for myself and didn't give a shit. Now I'm in a full time job and frankly I need an escape around the lunch hour so I typically run away from the office and recharge.

I eat alone a couple times a week. Not because I can't text someone to see if they want to get together, but it's simply more convient just to grab lunch by myself in between classes, or dinner if I'm planning to be in the library during those hours.

I sit alone at lunch as I'm pretty anti-social at my school. Most of the time I don't even go to the cafeteria and head to the library. Does that count as "sitting alone at lunch" since I'm doing it during my lunch period but it's not technically at lunch?

It's an overpriced place that sells smoothies. I've only been there once and that was because I had a buy one-get one free coupon. It was meh, nothing really to rant and rave about. I'm sure you could (well I know you can) whip up something better at home in your blender for a bit cheaper.

Well where I'm from, schools don't have cafeterias (being that it's Southern California and always 70+ degrees). We all ate outside. So basically, everyone who couldn't drive would congregate in the school quad and eat with their friends and each other; there weren't any tables, just random benches and canopies. No one really ate alone. Though I'm not sure if that's how it would have worked out if we'd had an indoor cafeteria.

In high school, very rarely. But in college, I don't have a similar schedule to any of my friends so if I'm eating on campus it's most likely alone. I don't really mind though because I like being alone sometimes. But I still love having lunch with my friends and whatnot. Same goes with dinner back in my apartment.
I usually can at least find one or two people I know. But I have my routine table at lunch and lunch is always really fun for me. I can't imagine sitting alone :/

Never really had this problem at all in high school. Unless it was the first day of school. But now in college, I usually just eat in my car... I don't really know anyone at the college I go to.

Never used to before this year, but now I do every day. I like to say it's mostly by preference, but honestly, I just lost all my friends last year. But I don't mind eating alone as much as I'd thought I would, and this is my last year of high school anyways so it's all good.

Urgh…this thread is depressing. It makes me think of my middle school years. Really socially awkward kid :( Truth is, sometimes even now I feel like I sit and eat with my friends just to have someone to sit with. We’ve all mostly resorted to mundane conversations with each other, plus its just a really bad time of the year for all of us. But it’s better than sitting alone for me, I get really insecure and self conscious.
When I moved in middle school, I would hide in the bathroom to eat and wait until class started :(

How many of you pretend to be on your phone during lunch time?

If i'm alone, i sit with strangers. They're usually friendly and much less biased whenever i open my mouth. :D

I sit by myself all the time, but the restaurant I always go to for lunch has a TV in the front room so I just watch the news.

In high school, you picked your table on the first day of school, and sat there every day for the rest of the year. You could switch tables to sit with other people, but it was a big no no for a group of people just to sit at a random table after the first day. There were a few kids here and there that were sitting alone, but I always knew people.
Now that I'm in college, I eat alone a lot of days during the week. My friends and I have different schedules, so we grab food when we can. It's not a big deal though, I actually kind of like it. I pick a seat by the wall of windows and just zone out. It's a nice break from everything.

I do quite frequently in college. A lot of the time I don't have the same open slots of time as my friends so I just chill alone at a table. No biggy.

I think I have a fear of sitting by myself. Like if other people aren't sitting with me, I wont eat. ha.
Did it all the time in college. No one else to eat lunch with, not a big deal at all. Easier to ogle hot chicks when you're alone too

In high school, when I felt like pissing off, I just sat by myself in a hallway with my ipod. Never really bothered me.

I'd go to the library if this ever happened to me. I go out to lunch usually, but getting stuck at school while everyone else was out would be awful.

hahahaha well not that part. More of the vibe that I want everyone to leave me alone/that I hate everyone.

On some days I only eat with this one person, and she wasn't in school the other day, so I ate lunch by myself for the first time. I didn't like it.

I've eaten pussy by myself...but lunch? Only in high school...once you get older your schedule gets too crazy to coordinate a lunch buddy all the time.

I still worry about having someone to eat meals with. Only when I'm on campus. If I'm out shopping or on break from work, I love eating alone.

I just moved to GA. And every day I sat at this table on the left side of the room and in the middle. I can basically see everyone from where I sit and there's nobody behind me. (Who can you trust?) And I don't eat lunch at school so I just sat alone looking at the table or something till we could leave. I hated it.
Recently though, a couple of guys have started sitting by me.

Never. It makes me feel very awkward. If I know that I will have to eat lunch alone I won't eat anything hah.

There's one big group we all go into when we eat lunch. Then theres like, 3 other large groups in the lunchroom. No one ever strays out of the groups, its kinda funny, it's been like that for about four years
