View Full Version : New Saosin Growing on Anyone Else?

I definitely really didn't like this album. But the more I listen to it, the more I'm starting to appreciate it. I still don't think it's close to S/T, but I've definitely found myself hitting repeat on a few tracks that I originally was turned off too. I'm wondering if anyone else is feeling the same, or if I'm just losing my fucking mind.

A solid first LP for one thing, along with the fact that this album has been years in the making and the hype and expectation surrounding it was pretty big.

It was a rhetorical question.

hahaha! but yeah, i've only listened through the whole thing one time. over all, its definitely not as good as the first LP, but it still holds its own. there are definitely some good, or do i dare to say, great songs on this album (Is this Real?, I Keep My Secrets Safe, On My Own). I'll need to listen to it at least a couple more times to make a fair judgement.

it's not that i dislike the album. there's just no progression and the last album did this kind of music better.

i definitely agree with there not being any progression. i think that was my biggest problem with it at first, and a major reason why i didn't care for it at first. but once i came to terms with it pretty much being a continuation of their first album, i found myself enjoying the new album a lot more.

From what I have heard of it, its alright... I was definitely not blown away by it though.

although it isn't much like any other saosin song, i'm really digging "what were we made for."
crazy catchy.

I think the one thing that's really disappointed me is the drum parts that Alex wrote for some of these songs. I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but from the songs I've heard, they're not up to par with what he's done in the past.

To quote the announcer from NBA Street, "if it ain't broke, don't try 'n fix it." Hahaha.

i love in search of solid ground, i love the darker feel and the pop tendancies.
melody wise it shits all over the debut, in my opinion anyway.

Some people have a problem with the slower songs on this album. In my opinion, Saosin has had success with those kinds of songs before (I Never Wanted To is one of my favorite Saosin songs). I dont think this album is as bad as everyone thinks, but its not as good as the first. Still, it is growing on me. It definitely takes a few spins to appreciate.

Can't get into it, despite repeated spins. The drumming is still there, but the riffs lack balls, which I don't think was a problem the first record had at all. Only about 4 tracks have vocal melodies which I can recall at will. I don't think it's a total failure by any means, but it doesn't do much to maintain my interest in the band.

^The comment about the riffs is pretty much on the money. I love pop music at the same time though, and I can appreciate alot of the melodies in this record; they got stuck in my head pretty quickly.

Nope. Still haven't made it through the whole CD once.

its a good album, but their first was incredible. very high expectations for this lp. i like it, but i also believe it will be what 'lights and sounds' was to yellowcard, and they will come back with an amazing cd next. ie: paper walls.

ive only listened to I Keep My Secrets Safe a couple times, but the Grey Ep had Keep Secrets which I think is a better version.
I still havent decided, however, if i like the album or not, it is a little slow compared to their last album. I mean, i like their slower stuff, but a whole album of it? idk

Yeah I really like it. I just had to accept it wasn't gonna be another S/T. It's got a lot more pop.

Was a solid LP...but then you look back on it and realize it was pretty generic after all.

The most important thing is to NOT compare it to their self titled album. I still think Saosin has some tricks up there sleeves and they'll probably put out better material in the future.

That would be a sweet tour for sure. The two bands that get a lot of heat for their new album should join force together and stomp out all the haters out there. Seriously ISOSG is not that horrible like people make it out to be. Mine favorite so far are: On My Own, Is This Real, and The Worst of Me.
