I always love when you're listening to a song and catch a reference to another song or band, whether it be a lyric, melody or straight up band reference.
Examples:
There's No 'I' in Team by Taking Back Sunday (obvious) = vocals in the bridge are from 70 x 7 by Brand New
Amber Pacific - the lyrics "spell confusion with a K" references Konstantine by Something Corporate.
The Early November - the lyrics "I don't want you to love me anymore" were from The Get Up Kids (and got them sued lol).
If you know of any of these please share!
Thanks.

Lol, I don't think anyone noticed this, but look how similar these are
Death Cab - Someday You Will Be Loved

With eyes like the summer: all beauty and truth.
But in the morning I fled; left a note and it read,
"Someday you will be loved."
The Morning Light - Virginia
Oh, I once knew a girl from Virginia
She had eyes like the first day of May
And she talked like she never remembered
What to say, what to say

Jimmy Eat World's "The Authority Song" has references to John Mellencamp's "Authority Song", the album Automatic by Jesus and Mary Chain, "What Goes On" by the Beatles, and supposed lyrical references to another JAMC song, but I haven't located it yet.
Also, Modest Mouse's "I Came As A Rat" has the lyrics "I don't know, but I been told. You never die and you never grow old." which is taken from Tom Petty's song "Last Dance with Mary Jane" ---- "Well, I don't know but I've been told. You never slow down, you never grow old."

Okay? Those lyrics could be in any number of songs, and I wouldn't say that anyone would be plagiarizing anyone else. Really common words in a relatively short lyric.

I didn't know the same notes were used. In that case, that would be plagiarism. On a lyrical basis alone, though, I personally wouldn't nail Ace for that.

I mean, he did on purpose as an homage. It wasn't meant to be plagiarism, but legally, GUK, or rather their agents or whatever, could sue.

There's some bands I'd like to name-check
And one of them is R.E.M.
Classic songs with a long history
Southern boys just like you and me
R.E.M.
Flashback to 1983
"Chronic Town" was their first EP
Later on came "Reckoning"
Finster's art...
Titles to match "So. Central Rain"
"(Don't Go Back To) Rockville,"
"Harborcoat"
"Pretty Persuasion,"
You're born to be a "Camera"
"Time After Time"'s my least favorite song
"Time After Time" was my least favorite song
The singer, he had long hair
And the drummer, he knew restraint
And the bassman, he had all the right moves
And that guitar player was no saint
So let's go way back to the ancient times
When there were no fifty states
And on a hill, there stands Sherman
Sherman and his mates...
And they're marching through Georgia
(They're marching through Georgia)
They're marching through Georgia
(G-G-G-G-Georgia)
They're marching through Georgia
(They're marching through Georgia)
They're marching through Georgia
(G-G-G-G-Georgia)
And there stands R.E.M..

L.G. FUAD by Motion City Soundtrack has a pretty sweet one.
"I want to thank you for being so proud of my "forget me nots" and marigolds
And all the things that don't get old" is a Promise Ring lyric.
I like how he follows it with "Is it legal to do this, I surely don't know. It's the only way I have learned to express myself; through other people's descriptions of life."
The chords to "Soco Amaretto Lime" and "...Sleep On the Inside" are almost exactly the same.
And the first two words to both songs are "Passed out..."
And they both close out awesome records by bands from Long Island.
In all seriousness, listen to it and tell me if I'm wrong, because I don't think it's common knowledge. My friend and I figured it out on our own just a few days ago.

new wonder years song has shout outs.
I woke up today and put all my shit in boxes. It’s eight a.m. so I’m glad I wasn’t out late. I woke up today. I guess it’s good I hadn’t finished unpacking all of this in the first place. The suburbs have abandoned me. I’ve had the same best friend since ’93. I call, he’s not answering. I can’t get comfortable on my own street. I’m not fond of South Philly or how my neighbors love ICP. I guess it’s better than Bancroft Street. At least the fridge here works and the walls don’t leak. At least I’m starting to see what’s left for me. We moved on again so I packed my shit and left home. It’s alright to think I still belong to something I don’t because I can see why you’d think so. Nothing made me feel further away than ‘Left and Leaving’ through a blown car stereo. Nothing made me feel closer to home than ‘Ready to Die’ through my headphones. So, we reached the coast. Where do we sleep tonight? Damned if I know. We’ll try to stay at the airport. “You can’t send us home, man. We’ve got no place to go.” Don’t say it’s up to me. The creaks in the floorboards are calling out to me. I’m laying here again with my head on my backpack, wrapped in my hoodie. This is how it is when... I stacked ‘Lonelier than God’ next to ‘You Get So Alone Sometimes.’ I know how this must look from the outside. It took almost thirteen months for me to be where I feel fine. I’m not as sad as I let myself believe sometimes.

Jimmy Eat World's "Kill" references Heatmiser's "Not Half Right" ("Like your favorite Heatmiser song goes, 'it's just like being alone'")
The Starting Line's "Somebody's Gonna Miss Us" references the Ace of Base song "All That She Wants" ("If SILYMI still is all you want, then maybe I can interest you in some other song... A little something like 'all that she wants is another baby, yeah'")
Also, anyone else notice that on FOB's song "The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes" when Patrick sings "And when it all goes to hell, will you be able to tell me you're sorry with a straight face?" sounds like the same tune as TBS's "Cute Without The 'E'" when Adam sings "And will you tell all your friends you've got your gun to my head? Refused are fuckin' dead is a reference to Born Against are fuckin' dead.
NOFX - Mattersville has the lyric 'At the end of my Cul-de-sac Davey Havok's house is painted black'
NOFX - Creeping out Sara - The song is pretty much about creeping out Sara from Tegan And Sara by asking her questions that only Fat Mike could ask. Also mentions Matt Skiba at the end.
NOFX - We Got Two Jealous Agains - The whole of this song is about comparing his record collection with his wife. So it's full of 80s punk bands.
NOFX in general are full of nods to other bands, these were just the first ones I could think of off the top of my head.
Motion City Sountrack - Hold Me Down - 'You're the reason why I burst and why I bloom' A nod To Cursive's Burst And Bloom album?
P.O.S - Savion Glover - The oval office and the lobby probably listen to Fugazi singing "This one's ours, let's take another"
P.O.S - Get Smokes Singing some kinda blues version of search and destroy Im talking Stooges weathered tissue and bruises Iggy raw respect or step back. Also possibly on the same song he mentions cute is what we aim for? ' Cute is what we aim at'. That would be odd but it seems likely.

I heard there's a reference in one of the lines in L.G. Fuad by Motion City Soundtrack but I can't remember and now it's bothering me.
It's the part where Justin sings, "I want to thank you for being a part of my forget-me-nots and marigolds / and all the things that don't get old / is it legal to do this I surely don't know."
I guess the first part is the reference, and the last part Justin's asking is it alright that I just stole their lyric. I'm thinking it's kind of a hidden and somewhat ironic way of saying this line is a tribute to that band.
