As of yesterday gas was 2.99 a gallon, I havent gotten a chance to get out today yet, but im guessing that its probably around 3.09 today. The government says they are going to start working out a way to lower prices, and I do not doubt that, but I have this feeling they will wait til gas is almost 4 bucks a gallon, and drop it back down to 3. I think its all a big racket, much like prescription medication. Its not really about the consumer at all, they really arent even veiwed as people, just mere dollar signs.

gas prices in europe, on average, are 2.5 times higher then here. But the bulk of that is due to taxes (70% in france vs. 18% in the US) then the actual price of gas, which is only slightly higher.

Europeans get hosed because of socialism, where as we get hosed because Exxon needs $400,000,000 to give their president a "comfortable" retirement package.

Lets be honest though, has there ever been a time people didnt bitch about gas prices?

To put it into perspective just 2 years ago Kerry was talking about opening up our reserves because gas was at $1.75. He predicted the economy would be hurt greatly if it hit $2.00.

This isnt Kerry bashing it's simply to show a point.

Now of course, at some point gas prices will be a problem because the logic above doesnt hold forever. But with the economy being in the shape that it's in that time is not now.

True, but I'd stop bitching for a couple days if it went back down to $1.75

not exactly. The price differences are created by differing tax levels, enviromental controls, population and refinery locations. No one thing creates the higher price alone.

Texas for example has a high population, but also has a lower average statewide gas price due to its location in relation to refinerers.
