View Full Version : What do you call your parents?

LamarVannoy
09/10/09, 05:55 PM
last week a co-worker of mine was shocked to find out that me and my brother call my parents by their first name. I'll occasionally call my mum 'mum' but I havent called my dad 'dad' in years and it sounds kinda strange to call him 'dad'.

Anyway it was quite funny to me because i thought it was a pretty common thing these days.

I call my mom "mum" too, or I just say "Mami." I call my dad "papi."

"Momma" and "Daddy."

Just kidding. "Mom" and "Dad" are what I call my parents.

Mom and Dad when I'm talking to them. By first names when talking to anyone else about them.

I tried the whole first names once and they threatened me so I stick with mom and dad. Actually, I call my mom mother just because it sounds less personal.

Momma and Dad. 'Daddy' gets his attention, though. Like when I ask him to do something (change the oil in my car, move something, fix my ceiling fan...things short people can't do), if I say "Hey Daddy, can you ...?", he's more likely to listen.

Mommy and Daddy...I just always have. I'll probably switch over to just Mom and Dad soon though haha.

admkbl
09/10/09, 07:22 PM
Mom and Dad, but I'll occasionally call my mom "Mother" if I'm in the mood.

My parents get hung up by how my cousins don't call them "Uncle [name]" and "Aunt [name]," instead they just say their first name, so I doubt me calling them by anything else would go over very well. Social norms are strange.

For my mom - mommy, ma, or moo. When I feel like it, I'll call her Stephanie but I reserve it for special occasions
For John - John, or J.J. I think only one of my siblings over the age of 8 or 9 actually call him dad, and thats the third oldest one.
