]"It was announced today at an event at Disney's D23 Expo that [/COLOR]Johnny Depp will be starring in the fourth PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN Movie ON STRANGER TIDES. They didn't reveal any details, but they did trot Depp out in full Jack Sparrow regalia. He appeared to be trying not to laugh as he asked the audience if they had seen a talking frog. Strange name, ON STRANGER TIDES. Not sure what could be stranger than a guy playing the organ with his tentacles...but hey, maybe this one will have a storyline that makes sense. (Honestly though, just give me Johnny Depp in eyeliner I have a kind of thing for that.) The film is slated for release in Summer 2011"

Of course Disney couldn't resist making another. I enjoyed them all somewhat, even though 2 and 3 are both kind of throwaways compared to the original.

i loved #1 and #3....this is what a summer movie is supposed to be. its what the super hero movies are missing.

Comedy, Action, Adventure, Decent Plots, Great Cast, Romance. It's a movie for everyone.

but eventually, the more they make....it'll just make the series weaker.

The last two movies were horrible, meandering pieces of cinema without a purpose but to provide Disney with $. This is not going to be any different.

Uhhhhhhh 2 was enough, 3 was overkill. Now 4 is just fucking crazy, Disney you better make some money with this. I think maybe $172,223,983.43 opening weekend. This rob marshall guy didnt do anything but chicago, which sucked. Going to be worse movie ever.

I am totally a fanboy for these movies, even against my better judgement. So I am excited at the prospect of more. I`d sure like to know if the whole behind-the-scenes crew is back. I know Gore Verbinski said he wouldn`t be coming back, but I think maybe than changed? I also wonder if Ted and Terry wrote it again. I hope that they get more time to work on this one, if they are, because writing under pressure for the second and third definitely didn't do the movies any favours.

I agree with this. I don't think there's anywhere else to take the story from where they ended the third one, at least not without being redundant, but they could definitely do more of an "origin" story for Jack and it could be enjoyable. As long as Depp is back, it has a chance of being decent, I just definitely don't want Orlando Bloom back. That character was always weak.

The first one was great in that Johnny Depp gave us a character that was funny and genuine. However, it seems like the producers/writers/director made a point to milk Jack Sparrow for all the humor he could provide as a character. The character felt too contrived from that point on.

I have so much cool stuff to share with you guys, I don't even know where to begin. How about a clip with Blackbeard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3dxJJqYZdk) in it? What do you guys think of Ian McShane as Blackbeard? Don't forget, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides comes out on May 20.

do you see these films before they're released?

Yes, but it's usually only a day or two ahead of time. There have already been a few advance screenings of the film, but I have not yet seen it. The other day, the audience from Oprah got to see the film. (http://www.disneydreaming.com/2011/05/06/the-oprah-winfrey-show-audience-gets-advance-screening-of-pirates-of-the-caribbean-on-stranger-tides/) There was also a screening at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood. From what I've heard so far, people are enjoying it. Here's a review (http://www.therpf.com/f47/pirates-caribbean-stranger-tides-review-spoiler-free-115147/)(spoiler free) from a user over at the RPF. It sounds like he was impressed.

I seriously cannot wait for this. So far, POTC is one of my favorite trilogies, and I have a really good feeling about this one too. I hope they throw in some more stuff from the ride again

If "Jack Sparrow feat. Michael Bolton" was the main credits song, I would blow a figurative and possibly real load.

Haha...that would be funny, wouldn't it? Jokes aside, the music is pretty impressive for the film. Rodrigo y Gabriela teamed up with Hans Zimmer (you probably recognize his stuff from Inception), and the result is some pretty wild stuff. You can hear an audio sample here (http://blogs.kcrw.com/musicnews/2011/05/kcrw-exclusive-rodrigo-y-gabriela-%E2%80%93-%E2%80%9Cthe-pirate-that-should-not-be%E2%80%9D/).

On another note, I had a chance to see the film last night. It was truly incredible.

Just saw it a little bit ago. 1 > 4 > 2 > 3

Loved all the new characters. Especially Penelope Cruz's! Her and Depp have great chemistry.

Actually enjoyed the movie, more than I thought I would.

however the whole mermaid/priest dude romance subplot could have been left on the editing floor, bringing almost nothing to the movie

just saw this. it was good, but for some reason, unlike most of you i enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd pirates more than the 1st and 4th. This one was good, and aside from the totally unnecessary and awkward love story that popped out of nowhere with the mermaid and the christian guy, i enjoyed it. It just didn't have as much of an epic "piratey" feel. I also felt Jack was kind of left in the background at times.

i'd give it a 6.5/10

What did you guys think of the Cpt. Jack Sparrow/Barbossa combo or the Cpt. Jack Sparrow/Angelica combo?

Is this film a prequel? I have always just watched these films without paying a lot of attention to the plot. Just saw this last night and spent the entire time wondering when it took place.

It apparently takes place after the third movie.

this wasn't bad. I'm really glad they shortened it up and made the story a little tighter.

Well, the only reason I guessed that was because Barbosa is now a general or something in the army, and Jack was giving him shit for it at one point. Seemed to be after everything logically, right?

Like I said, I have only watched them all once and it was always because someone else wanted to see them. That does make sense. Before I watched it I heard rumors of a prequel. Also, Barbosa had a shorter red beard and Jacks hair seemed a little more blonde so I thought they were going for a younger look.

Hmm... could be, but I think the end of the movie, and the ship Barbosa was now captaining was a hint that it was afterwards too. I don't know for 100% certain though.

I thought everything was a bit over the top and a tad predictable. Didn't much care for the storyline either.

But on the other hand, I loved the characters. Jack Sparrow will forever be one of my favourite movie characters.

And also at the end of the third one, Jack stole the map for the fountain of youth so it was kind of assumed that the fourth one would be about that.

Ahh... okay. I think the only time I saw the third one was in the theater when it came out. It's definitely been a while.

Not really a mystery, really. At the end of At World's End they clearly mention their intentions to find the Fountain of Youth.

Terrible Movie. Jack Sparrow is not a serious enough character to lead a movie without others to hold him up (Will/Elizabeth). And what's with the love subplot between the Christian and the mermaid? Twilight meets The Little Mermaid much? Does he become Aquaman at the end or something? What a joke.

How to make a Pirates movie:

1. Open up with an "escape scene."
2. Have a bunch of double-crossin' in the middle.
3. Use a supernatural entity as a plot device to conclude the film in a borderline deus ex machina fashion.

Went to see this yesterday, I actually regret it. The scene when Jack escapes with the biscuit off the chandelier was one of the most ridiculously bad scenes I have ever seen in a movie. And Penelope Cruz was...*shudder*
