Take the Cerpin Veil Taxt is easily one of my top 5 favorite songs released since 2000(this decade)

the crazy guitar part, followed by the bass solo, followed by the jam session, back into song

... I need to see this band live again, cassandra gemini live is pure brilliance

I was front row center for their Big Day Out performance in Auckland this year. I waited with two mates for four hours to get the best seats in the house. It was purely amazing and when Eria Tarka came on I died.

The security guards were being assholes and it was great when Cedric grabbed the radio headset off the main guard put it on, sung into it for a minute then threw it into the crowd.

Awesome.

I love this band, but I think that the live disc killed any desire I have to see them live.

This band has gone so far downhill. I can't even listen to Amputechture. Deloused is brilliant but their following releases have been terrible. Let's discuss some Mars Volta.

Yeah TMV are great,
Their coming to australia again soon,
but tickets aren't cheap, and i've lately
forked out a fair bit of money for some festivals.
Hopefully they'll do BDO again next year.
I love Amputechture, one of my favs of 06

Could you please explain to me what's so good about Amputechture? I just can't get into it at all.

I loved Amputechture, because it was the first TMV album I listened to as a whole.
For Christmas I got Treumulant, De-loused, and Frances The Mute, but I have yet to really listen to Treumulant, and I've played De-loused through three or so times, while the rest of the time I've been playing Frances.
So far, I have yet to see how people dislike any of these.
The concepts for them are pretty cool when you dissect and look at them.

really, scabdates doesn't compare to seeing them live.Well no, it's not totally live.
On a couple songs, multiple recordings from multiple concerts were combined to make one.

I'm also of the not liking Amputechture vibe. My friend summed it up well "They're already begining work on their next album which means even they know Amputechture sucked".

Amputechture was great.

They were parodying themselves while expanding their sound for the next album. songs like day of bahomets seemed to show that the band was moving away from it's Omar-centric sound into more progressive things.

I know this thread is forever old, but I wanna say that I think new ATDI would have sounded like "A Plague Upon Your Hissing."

If you haven't heard the song, get it.

ps new Volta album this year? probably. The interview from the live performances on the Henry Rollins IFC show pretty much flat out said "We're going to put out a new album every year."

Now if they would just come to Florida with a non-shitty band (unlike last time - System of a Down).

amputechture was good, but not their best. and yes, they're amazzzzing live.

Gumbyjag
05/06/07, 01:31 AM
okay, Frances The Mute is definitely their best (while i must assume some argument for De-loused as well) but i really like Amputechture and it surprisingly didn't take me four or five listens to get it. i i don't like the Tremulant EP very much, they were still recovering from the whole ATDI breakup and it's certainly not as progressive as De-loused or FTM would be.

Soooo the songs Goliath, Aberinkula, and Wax Simulacra are out there. Shouldn't be hard to find, songs are on myspace. search tmv. Bedlam is going to be sweet. The new stuff has such a great groove to it, loving it.

There has been so much stuff lately, just check the comatorium if you want to get really detailed. I think Omar spends all his waking hours recording something or other. various side projects, movies, etc. As far as the new volta... good stuff. the rhythm section is sounding so tight and omars guitar is a little more subdued than the last record. vocals are still sounding amp-ish, but in a good way.

When I saw them, they were touring for Frances the Mute. I dunno. They sounded really sloppy (in
a bad way) and were pretty damn boring. Ive heard other people say the opposite so maybe I saw them on a bad night.

I saw them during their Frances tour and their Goliath tour and they were fantastic both times. The Frances show was better because they had a perfect discography back then.

I think the only noteworthy song I've never seen them play is Inertiatic ESP. Even on the Frances tour that was missing. Playing literally everything else worth hearing made up for it though.

Haha okay. I guess that's where we disagree. I understand that you would enjoy their crazier stuff more; I guess it's just not as much for me. I've always enjoyed their more relaxed side. I've always thought that they needed to slow it down a tad, and simplify their music just a little. I think it'll demonstrate their talent better.

I read yesterday that a month after Bedlam was released, they said their next two were already recorded... which means they had Octahedron recorded for two years. They also said they're just waiting for a release date for the next one. I'm stoked, I really love this band. Also read that Omar hates playing the guitar.
