but if he is serious that's the stupidest thing i've ever heard , if not he's a genius.
all i can say is if divorce were banned the murder rate would go WAY up.

Marcotte is a satirist and commentator who has engineered a number of harmless social pranks. In 2006, he and a group of friends placed a giant pair of Groucho glasses on a statue at a Sacramento retail center.
This gives me the impression he's not serious about this... but I can't say for sure myself.

If the majority of California voters feel that banning gay marriage will uphold family values, what makes divorce any different. At least every Catholic can support this.

Has anybody actually visited the website? There should be no doubt in anybody's mind that it's satire.

I don't think 90% of the people commenting on the website have really looked at the site! The comments are hilarious. There are full-fledged arguments over this 'proposition.'

if something like that would really happen, it would be incredibly pathetic and interesting at the same time. because no sane person would get married and it would be interesting to see what kind of influence that would have on the whole of society

Is technically Catholic; does not support divorce ban, does support gay marriage.

I mean it wouldn't be the WORST idea. Obviously it would never work, but I like the thinking behind yet. Not as many random "lets get married for the hell of it!"

You make this sound like it's a common occurrence. I wasn't aware it happened so often.

If they're going to ban gay marriage on religious grounds, which is what they did, then they should ban divorce. It's only fair and a logical extension of their ideology.
Maybe then people will realize that Christianity has evolved from stupid fundamentalist bullshit.

Is this from the same fella who berated me a few days ago for harping on Christians for their inanity?

this seriously is brilliant.
"about the author" John Marcotte is a firm believer in traditional family values. He currently opposes gay marriage, Obama talking to children and MSNBC's entire prime-time line-up.
i can't believe the people commenting on that site think he's serious.

What a good idea. Banning divorce, genuis. If your stupid enough to get married then the oaths shouldn't lie, till death.
I wish it were serious. If divorce was banned every gold digging hoe would be fucked.

Brilliance. I saw this a few days ago on another site. I love that to get his required signatures on the petition, he said he was going to set up a table outside of Wal*Mart, telling people it was a petition to uphold the tradition of marriage, tape their reaction, THEN tell them it's going to ban divorce.
I know it's a joke but I sincerely hope it makes a statement.
I'm interested in seeing if people will actually uphold what they are supposed to believe in or if they will cherry pick their way out of it.
