Senses Fail - Let It Enfold You
Record Label: Vagrant Records
Release Date: September 7th, 2004

OK, I'm just gonna say it: I like to review bands I like more than ones I dislike, and also seemingly ones everyone else seems to hate, so as I write this, I know there are a lot of Senses Fail haters, especially toward this album, but for me it was like discovering something completely different.

Though I didn't hear this album until about the time Still Searching was released, it blew me away. At this point in time, I wasn't really exposed to much of this scene, so when i heard this, I was hooked to Senses Fail. I was immediately struck by the lyrical content of the album; it was so dark, and made me feel dark and brooding for listening to it. The themes of death, depression and all the other cliches that go along with it were just well done to me. "Fuck with my heart, i'll teach you what its like, to be so used that you'll have to bleed." Admittedly this part is the equivalent of "judging a book by it's cover," but just the song titles had me so intrigued.

Musically, it's solid throughout; the use of fast punk-like drums mixed with the frenetic guitars create this great meld with the vocals. Whilst many of users on AP.net will criticize the vocal delivery and screams on this album, I find that they're fantastic. The band creates an album laced with angst-ridden, emo-tinged punk, which many bands try to emulate today. For me, this album was far better overall than Still Searching and Life Is Not A Waiting Room. Thats not to say those albums weren't great; they showed alot of progression but for me this is the by far their best effort.

So yes, this will get alot of people hating on this album all over again, but I hope that it will get people to get this disc out and play it again and remind them what they used to love.

The Used, Silverstein, 'Hate'

'Rum Is For Drinking, Not Burning', 'Buried A Lie', 'Choke On This'

the lyrics are, at best, 8.25. i don't hate the band like alot of other ppl seem to, but 9.75 is pushing it to an extraordinary degree.

This is their best album. Lyrically, however, I need say nothing. The rest of you have it taken care of for me.

I sorta grew out of this band. I think the lyrics on all their albums could be better, but I do like Buddy's vocals.

This was one of my most anticipated records, until it was delayed, and by then I kind of grew out of their "style". I really enjoyed From Depths of Dreams in high school though.

One of my favorite albums of all time, this and a few others around this time got me into music seriously. The lyrics are very special to me but I can understand how some can not like them.

I love playing this album in the Fall.

Just throwing it out there, it's "a lot" not "alot".

This album is pretty awesome, definitely my favorite SF album. I'd put it at somewhere around #15-20 in my favorite "scene" albums.

I never got into Waiting Room and thought Still Searching was OK but didn't have any sticking power though.

Terrible review though

"So love me gently with a chainsaw."
"Phoenix will die inside the firestorm."
"You're cute when you scream."

Those are some 9.75 lyrics right there folks!

That line is actually one of the album's stronger moments, even though they censored it with "love".

I dig the reference.

"I know there are a lot of Senses Fail haters, especially toward this album"
I completely disagree. I think most people love this album even those who say that hate it don't. Because nothing's cooler than bashing on bands am i right? I mean, it’s really hard not to. Both the vocal and guitar melodies are catchy as fuck. I’m not trying to defend buddy and say he’s a good singer or he can write lyrics like Jesse. But that’s part of the reason I love them so much. Some of the lyrics are really cliché, but they're so awesome at the same time. I DARE someone not to sing to the beginning of NJ falls into the Atlantic.

I really like Senses Fail, but for me, Still Searching is literally 10 x better. I really don't think his screaming vocals are very good on this album - in fact, I'm fairly certain Buddy didn't record some of the screams, and the other guy wasn't doing the job either.

Either way, I'm not sure about "Life is a Waiting Room" but this record can't compare to "Still Searching" or "From the Depths of Dreams" for me. FTDOD is much better, rawer version of this record.

Yeah, I think you're right. I really wasn't into his screaming.

Like I said, I like this album but they got way better afterwards. Buddy's vocals improved immensely. And they really stepped it up live. Even FTDOD was a better record - a lot of similar sounding songs but some more raw, heavier parts.

This one of my favorite albums of all time
the lyrics are ridiculously metaphoric and deep, the screams are spine-chilling, and the music meshes all this talent together....unfortunatly the later albums by this band seem to be getting weaker and weaker (listening to the new one, "The Fire," right now, and not too impressed)

It is a very good album. Behind Blink (Hold for hate comments), Senses Fail is my favorite punk band. Great album, one of their best.:)
