Suicide Silence - The Cleansing
Record Label: Century Media
Release Date: September 18th, 2007

I know what your thinking: why is this album even being considered for a review on AP.net? It pure generic Deathcore shit!

The fact of the matter is, in my eyes, this is hands down the best album in the genre, one you actually want to listen to again, or at least past the fourth track. Admittedly there is only so much you can say about albums in this genre so here goes;

The album starts off with the obligatory (at least it seems like) thirty seconds of intro, or just a slow noise building up the brutality that ensues. After the intro, the album jumps out the gates with "Unanswered," a song filled with strong drums with heavy use of bass kicks. The vocals are exactly what you'd expect: deep growling that's undecipherable for the most part. It's only when the screams get lighter you can actually understand them -- barely.

But instead of having three minutes of just constant head pounding deathcore, Suicide Silence like to slow down tempos and throw in the odd breakdowns, too. Simple I know, but it keeps you interested. "The Price of Beauty" is vocally my favourite on the CD, which I know isn't saying much, but it all flows together to make, dare I say it, the catchiest Deathcore song you'll ever hear, surpassed by only the nearly laughable ending of '"No Pity For A Coward" where we are asked "Seconds from the end, whats it gonna be? Pull the trigger bitch!" repeated several times during the complete slow breakdown for the last minute of the track. But you know what? It sounds really good.

So apart from being a Deathcore band, Suicide Silence have created a monster of an album that's filled with the brutality you'd come to expect from this genre while managing to remain slightly accessible.
