I agree great read. So true about those Penn St. and Michigian(spelling?) running backs. Cursed?

It really makes you think with the draft coming up. Good teams(NE Pats, Pitt Steelers, Eagles to name a few) seem to always build through the draft in this salary cap age while teams like Wash. Redskins go buy every high price FA they can get their hands on.

why would clarett even be up there? i thought he wasn't drafted. either that, or the broncos picked him up around the 6th round

Funny how 100 and 99 are Mets and Giants. Haha, figures. Great read though, good find Vince.

I don't care he still was a waste of a pick. I didn't realise that they would factor in the players picked instead of Jordan, Stockton, etc. 97 wasn't exactly that high either, wasn't like I expected top 15.

I liked the Jeter/ Expos thing. That was my highlight of the article.

probably a true Yankee hater...kind of a dig on the blood sucking machine that is the Yankee management.

"Montreal would now be playing in its fabulous, 21st-century stadium, Jarry Park II, where free agents like Alex Rodriguez and Gary Sheffield take pay cuts just to play in baseball's most luxurious ballpark and high-five Youppi! after hitting game-winning home runs. It's a place where the Expos are going for their sixth straight division title and fans admit, "We don't really care about the hockey playoffs this year"

pretty Eutopian, it's basically a combo of the Yankees ability to get huge free agents, and the Patriots ability to keep players even at reduced salaries

That's what i got out of it but i wasnt understanding how what he was saying was the Yankees fault. Idk, i definitely need sleep.

Jordan? Who's Jordan? Do you mean Michael?

Heh, I lost track of him after the draft, I believe he ended up being good, not to sure though, so don't quote me on that one..

39. Ki-Jana Carter, Cincinnati Bengals (No. 1, 1995)
38. Curtis Enis, Chicago Bears (No. 5, 1998)

Hahaha. I remember those two all to well.

15. Darko Milicic, Detroit Pistons (No. 2, 2003)
Yes, it's too early to write off Darko, but Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade were taken immediately after him.

imagine if detriot had any of those guys WOW....

if they had any of those guys they wouldn't have the team now, if they had bosh, then they don't get rasheed. tayshaun wouldn't get the playing time he does. the team would not have one a title with any of those guys, imo.

46. Mark McGwire, Oakland A's (No. 10, 1984)
If only the Cubs had taken McGwire at No. 3, or maybe the Reds at No. 5, or maybe the Giants at No. 9, then McGwire never would have been teammates with Jose Canseco, he never would have been introduced to steroids (you know, if it happened that way), he wouldn't have shattered Maris' record in '98, Barry wouldn't have gotten jealous, Pedro Gomez would get to cover the actual game of baseball, we wouldn't have "Bonds on Bonds" and life as we know it would generally smell more like roses and fresh-baked bread.

94. Joey Harrington, Detroit Lions (No. 3, 2002)
Never got a fair shake with Detroit. Because the organization has no clue how to build a team around a QB, whether he's a 'bust' or not. fuck the lions management.

85. Andre Ware, Detroit Lions (No. 7, 1990)
Hey, look, it's Vince Young if he had played in a gimmicky offense in college about 16 years ago. I bet even Andre Ware thinks Young will be a bust.

83. Chuck Long, Detroit Lions (No. 12, 1986)
man, we fucking suck.

82. Matt Anderson, Detroit Tigers (No. 1, 1997)
Anderson threw about 100 mph (105 on the Fox radar gun) at Rice, so the Tigers made the perplexing decision to draft a relief pitcher with the top pick. Like the time they hired Bo Schembechler as team president, this one didn't quite work out.

what's worse is they kept giving him the ball when he showed he wasn't anything but a guy who could throw a baseball 100 mph. but it was completely straight with no movement and now 2nd pitch. bad move.

7. Charles Rogers, Detroit Lions (No. 2, 2003)
Before the draft, an NFL.com prospect profile wrote of Rogers, "Has a well-proportioned, muscular frame with tight skin, low body fat, good arm length, tight bubble and nicely developed legs and thighs … Has outstanding quickness in and out of his cuts …Stays active with his hands to escape the jam and is very fluid getting into his routes … Has the ability to easily find the open area and the instincts to know where the pursuit is coming from … Uses his superb acceleration to separate, and while known as a deep threat, he is also effective on underneath routes … Will catch with his hands outside his framework and shows excellent concentration going over the middle … Does a fine job of tracking and locating the ball, using his speed well to stretch the defense … Shows good hip swerve, wiggle and juking moves to make the initial tackler miss … Has the long arms and strength needed to hold up vs. press coverage … Shows great depth in his routes and can sneak up on a defender and separate with his vertical speed … Not shy combating for the ball and will work hard to take the pigskin away from the defender … Has above-average body control to adjust when making over-the-shoulder grabs … Very hard to contain after the catch."

Let's see, in three years, he's played 14 games, caught 36 passes and had almost as many violations of the league's substance-abuse policy (three) as touchdown catches (four). Guess that scouting report missed a thing or two.

Can we throw Mike Williams in with this pick. What makes the Charles Rogers pick even more frustrating is that watching him play at Michigan State he never, ever went across the middle, yet was touted as good enough to go across the middle. Then, what's even fucking worse is that Andre Johnson went to Houston with the next pick, and he's the same height, is heavier yet runs just as fast and had proven in college he could go across the middle. What the fuck.
Fuck the mother fucking lions. We don't have pro football in this state.

as ive said countless times bigmike, i agree about joey. Give him a fucking decent quarterback coach (see: anyone who is not affilated with the detroit lions) and he could be a good quarterback.

haha. hell yeah. mikeford might be head of the joey harrington fan club, but i'm right up there. i think he could be a solid back up, but he was surrounded by a shitty team and more importantly, a shitty o-line. plus mooch is an overrated coach and was completely wrong for this lions team.

yeah, but he won't be a decent QB in cleveland apparently. i'm not sure we'll know until june because i don't see him getting traded because he wants to go to miami and miami only. and if the dolphins are smart they won't trade for him when they can just wait and sign him after he gets cut before the lions have to give him his roster bonus.

I love that after 3 N.C. State defensive players were drafted in the first round, even Michael Irvin noticed that the Wolfpack finished 7-5 last year. Of their 6 regular season wins, only 2 of their 4 opponents in D-1 had a winning record. I could be wrong about these guys, but I'm not sure why there has been such hype.
