and i've been in a local band for close to 3 years now. it depends on the band too. you have to make sure you have the music of the songs down tight before you go play shows. as soon as you have that down than play as many shows as you can. It also helps to try and play different venues (at least in northeast ohio) and only play each venue once a month but again it depends on the area you are from

In Kalamazoo + Lansing, if you play in the same city more than once a month, it is definitely going to affect your draw, and with a lot of the Lansing venues ("a lot" = all two of them), if you are playing at either of those two big clubs, you can't play at the other within six weeks. It is pretty crazy, but I have definitely seen it affect the draw, both with my bands I have had over the years and with others.
