This post is very misleading... the case is about contract renegotiations. Cheap Trick & the Allman Bros are under contracts that were written long before the advent of digital sales, & thus their digital downloads are treated like record sales (the lawsuits allege "that Sony BMG is using antiquated royalty formulas derived from physical product sales," according to digitalmusicnews.com). What Cheap Trick & the Allman Bros are asking for is to be treated as licenses instead of physical sales, which would increase their share from 4.5% to 31.5%. http://www.digitalmusicnews.com/#042806sony2

I'm probably more against major labels than the average person, but indie labels aren't the bastions of charity you're making them out to be. Hell, Victory Records bands get $0 from digital sales... that's just absurd.

My point was that this article was about bands with outdated contracts having them renegotiated to reflect to the digital aspect of the industry, but this article made it out like Sony is withholding funds owed or doing something particularly shady that other labels aren't. This main subjects of this article are Cheap Trick (who have a record coming out soon, & thus need a contract renegotiation) & the Allman Bros (who are still touring, renewing interest and gaining fans, & also need a contract renegotiation), not Sony. But no one on ap.net cares about Cheap Trick or the Allman Bros... however it's ultra trendy to hate on Sony, so that got pushed.

Ridiculous.

As for victory artists getting nothing for digital downloads does Victory even offer them since I know they arent on itunes. The PS3 is going to be amazing. I cant wait for games like MGS4 and hopefully Black 2 and whatever else they have to offer. On a thread related note, get your act together sony.
