I'm looking into buying a bass amp that's priced between $300-$500 dollars, anyone know of some good amps I can get in that price range?

Looked for a used Peavey Firebass 700. I just got one at GC for 200, and a matching 4x12 cab for the same price. 475 watts @ 4 ohms and it's PLENTY loud. It's a pretty transparent sounding amp. It won't give you any kind of "characteristic" tone, like, say, an Ampeg SVT would, but it works for me. The only downside to it is it's really heavy (about 50 lbs) and the 4x12 is HUGE as well. Way bigger than any 4x10 I've had.

Peavey stuff in general can be had for low prices used and it's built like a tank. Their stuff lasts decades. My Dad's been playing on the same Peavey bass amp for 25 years or so and it's still going strong. Also, my band used to use an old Peavey PA system that was pretty old too. Only reason we upgraded was to get more power.

I agree with this guys Peavey stuff is relatively cheap, especially on ebay, and extremely underrated. I would def reccomend a Peavey unless you can come across a great deal on an Ampeg.

I will third the Peavey recommendation and add that you can always get a more Ampeg-ish sound if you really want by picking up a Sansamp DI.

I really like the Acoustic amps. A buddy of mine bought the 200w one from guitar center for like $250 and it's a great sounding head for the price. You could definitely snag one of those and then get yourself a decent cab for like $300 used somewhere.
