The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:
Hyro Da Hero [myspace (http://www.myspace.com/hyrodahero2)] [website (http://www.ilike.com/hyrodahero)]
1. How did you get your band name?
My real name is Hyron, people call me "Hyro." When I played basketball in high school and won a game they called me "Hero." So I am Hyro Da Hero.
2. How did this band get started?
I started rapping with my computer and my mic and came out to LA to build up something new and something refreshing. Performing with a DJ alone wasn't doin' it for me, I wanted to rock out so I enlisted the help of real musicians.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
At The Drive In, Tupac, Eminem, Bad Brains, Fishbone, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, 50 Cent, Fugazi, Z-Ro, Rancid, the list goes on.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
I would have loved to have toured with At The Drive In because they have great energy. Being out with Fugazi or Bad Brains would be cool because I would love to learn from them and their crowd and feel that energy. I would love to tour with Lil Wayne to show his fans some real hip hop and some real rock. Michael Jackson or Depeche Mode or U2 because they always play to huge crowds, and the music is awesome.
5. If you were furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
My blackness won't let me answer that question
6. Why should people listen to your band?
Because it is something that you have never heard before. There is too much imitation in music. Nobody is their self, everyone is someone else. I show you, me, not what is trendy. Hyro Da Hero is the realest ***** livin'.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
I would love "Dirty South Rock" (from my new album Belo Horizonte) to be on there. But the parts wouldn't be too hard to learn, because the guitars are rockin' in the chorus only. It's a dope song.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
God, Mama and Daddy, Management, and the fans that support me and my music
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
I would make it so that you would actually have to have an aura and talent, the x-factor to get a record deal. Not just the homie down the street that made a beat on Fruity Loops and made a dance to it. Or some band that walks into Hot Topic and copies whatever song he just heard.
10. Memorable tour experience?
Brazil and Texas. Brazil because I had never been to South America and Texas because it was home and it was on!
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
Absolute Punk represents the truth. I feel that if I ever do something bad, they will let me know what's up. It is a great source for information.
12. What is your favorite song to play?
"Dirty South Rock" (from my new album Belo Horizonte), because it paints a perfect picture of where I come from, the Dirty South.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
Belo Horizonte, Brazil
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
Anything from the Gangsta Rap era, like Death Row, like Snoop Dogg to Dr. Dre to Tupac to the east coast and Mobb Deep and also Bad Boy Records.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
To teleport, so that I wouldn't have to pay to travel to get from show to show
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
NOOOOOOO WAY!!! We have a long long long way to go. It is a hard battle between good music and shitty music. Unfortunately, shitty music is winning because the powers that be want the dumbing down of our society. But, luckily there is a hero here to save the day.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
That I listen to old rebel country like Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings.
18. What's your favorite holiday?
Martin Luther King Day, because that is when I get out of work by using my black card. I also tell the people at work that I have to take off on Rosh Hashanna and Yom Kippur because I observe the holidays with my Jewish manager.
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Between workin' on music and practicing for shows, there really isn't much spare time in the life of an independent artist.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
Well, they aren't really hidden anymore, because you are now beginning to see them...
