-Introduce who you are and what you do in the band.

Daniel, I sing and play guitar [hero].

-How did you like the tour with Emery and Anberlin? Any highlights?

It was amazing. It was cool to play for that many people in such a short amount of time. For me, I hadn't toured like that since the Showoff days, so my major highlight was going back to a lot of the same venues with a totally new band, one that I'm so much more proud of.

-Daniel, do you miss hitting the drums?

Sometimes, I just produced a band from Madison, WI called Ice Cap Fortune where I got to play a lot of drums on the session. I enjoyed playing drums in the studio, but my heart is in The Fold nowadays.

-Might you tour with Showoff and play for both bands in the future?

Showoff did a reunion show about a year ago, and it was fun, but that's a chapter in my life that has clearly come to a close.

-Have you been doing any reading on the road? Do you have any recommendations for us?

The newest edition of the Rand McNally 2006 Road Atlas has an exceptional "Best of the Road" editorial featuring five new road trips with recommended stops for dining, shopping, sightseeing, and entertainment!

-Why is there a different producer/mixer for the first four tracks on This Too Shall Pass, and a completely different one for the rest of the songs? What is the whole story behind those four tracks?

We kind of felt that the album was missing something, so we did one more session with some new songs we were tinkering with just before the album release. We really enjoyed the experience, so the next album will be recorded with that same producer who did those first four tracks (Zach Hodges), and musically they will pick up where those songs left off.

-What do you hope to achieve as a band, in terms of how do you hope to reach out to your fans? What message do you want to convey?

We want to make sure that we give them plenty to know us by. That's why we put up videos, and answer each message personally when we're not out on tour meeting them each night. If there isn't a real connection with them, we're wasting our time. We want to be around for a long time. As far as what we want to convey - I just want to tell the truth. I would hope that any lyricist is writing about truth in their own personal lives whether you're Eminem, Sufjan Stevens or Pete Wentz - your kidding yourself if you're not writing the truth. I can't stand bands that write in vague generalizations. Face to Face was one of my first favorite bands growing up, but after a while I wondered what Trevor was really singing about. After a while it just sounded like Psychology. As for my lyrics in The Fold, I can say that there was definitely a time when I wanted to write exclusively about my faith. It makes sense as I look back now because I had just gone through a total change in my world view. No matter what though, we've always just been trying to write the best songs we can, and I take the subject matter from what is going on in my life at the time. As long as it's genuinely real to me, I know that someone will connect with it.

-What was their favorite venue on the Tooth and Nail Tour?

Probably a venue called Norva in VA. We all had hot tubs and the crowd was awesome. I must admit, it was hard to stay away from the backstage that night. Especially since Stephen Christian looks so good in his swimming trunks! OMGZZZ! LOL!

-Tell us about the video you released for "Gravity." Who was a part of the filming and direction for the video?

Aaron, our guitar player, put that together from various live footage we've accumulated over the past few months. We wanted a video out there for the new fans who haven't been able to get out to a show just yet. I think we achieved that.

-Have there been any conflicts in the mainstream considering your religious beliefs?

We don't believe in religion. A few of our songs reflect the truth that I've discovered over the past few years in Jesus, and I'm definitely not afraid to admit that. I don't think that has anything to do with how we are accepted (or not accepted) by the masses. That seems to be affected more by whether or not the meatheads can mosh to us at our shows, or whether we scream in our songs. The mainstream will always conflict itself anyways, we're not too concerned about it.

-What was the bands response from fans after leaking This Too Shall Pass on AbsolutExclusive before it hit the stores?

It was very cool to give so many people a taste test of what the record was like beforehand. I think it did a lot to increase awareness about The Fold, which is all we hoped for. The record has been out two months now, and we're happy to see it selling steadily. We're definitely content with the way
things are going. I think everyone knows that the second record on an indie label is always where it's at! =)

-What can fans expect from The Fold for the rest of 2006?

We plan on touring a lot, doing a few Warped dates, and then a few festivals. The tours are not 100% confirmed yet, so just keep watching our myspace page for that: http://www.myspace.com/thefold

wow wow wow, wait a sec. The Fold doesn't believe in Religion?? That is news to me. That was pretty much the reason I liked this band. I thought that is why Dan formed the band, not for his own persoal fame but to spread the christian word. Dan used to have his tesimonial on the fold website as well. I honestly can say that I cannot believe that they don't believe in religion?!!

He's saying he doesn't believe in RELIGION - Read the rest of the sentence. He believes in Jesus, that's the reason they do it. They're not singing about the Pope, come on! It's totally in line with what The Fold is all about.

Seriously people, read the interview. He clearly states in two questions that (a) he writes about his faith and (b) there is truth in Jesus.

.......

I'm a Christian. And I do not believe in religion. I'm not a *religious* person. I'm a Christian; a follower of Christ.

Honestly, people like you really bug me. "the reason" you liked this band is because of "spreading the christian word"? That sickens me.
