I just saw a trailer for this, looks quite interesting.

Anyone read the book(s)? Think it will be a good adaptation of it?

I've never read them but here is a summary of the first book:
Percy Jackson is a twelve year old boy diagnosed with dyxlexia and ADHD, who is constantly getting expelled from schools through no fault of his own. After his latest expulsion, he finds out that he is the son of a Greek god. He is sent to Camp Half-Blood, a camp for other kids with a Greek God parent. Not long after he arrives, the God of the Sea, Poseidon, claims Percy as his son. Percy is accused of stealing Zeus's Master Bolt. He is given 10 days to find it and return it to Mount Olympus.

Cast list:
Logan Lerman
Brandon T. Jackson

i read the book a few years ago. it's an easy read for a younger audience, but it was a ton of fun :]

it's been awhile since i read it, so i might be wrong in saying this, but i don't think that the book had anything to do with the empire state building. nevertheless, i'm excited to see what they do with this & hope they do the story justice!

ah that's cool. I was expecting this movie to be quite big as apparently it's being compared to the harry potter series etc. who knows what will happen

Did anybody see this?

That Vegas scene is better than all of 21.

I liked it. I went into it because it was free, but ended up enjoying it. I've read the first 2 books since then and they're extremely quick reads. It's a shame the movie was a failure, because the 2nd has a pretty cool plot.

Can't wait to finally rent this thing.

Are the books for young-young kids or like how Harry Potter is?

Are they not making a second one then?

I'd say more like Harry Potter. My sister is a few years younger than me and she absolutely loves them. She had me read them and they're actually decent books. Nice quick reads.

Not really a failure, I'd say. Made over 200 million dollars (granted, I'm sure they expected more) with lukewarm critical reception. Columbus had said the cast was chosen with sequels in mind, so I wouldn't rule it out.

I just remember reading an article which said that the studio wasn't happy with it, so they're not pursuing any sequels. And Lerman isn't signed on for any, I don't think.

A little silly but I was entertained, it wasn't too bad.

Went out and bought it on the release day in hopes that it would be really great despite some of the reviews i read. I'm a lerman fan so i enjoyed it for the fact he was attached but i thought it was a little fast paced and sometimes rather cheesy. Greek mythology is an incredibly interesting topic to me and i like the way they tied it all in with a modern day feel.

i hated the casting of percy's mother. anybody else could've played her and done a better job

Haha. Keener is a fine actress but she has pretty much just become a parody of herself.

Obviously she only showed up for the paycheck.
