Monty has changed their name to Monty Are I (http://www.purevolume.com/montyarei). The band's new album will be out on August 1st through Stolen Transmission.
Hello, beautiful people!

It probably seems like we've been nothing but FULL of big news, lately, with lots to be happy about. And for good reason, because it's been a busy year so far, and it's only going to get busier--and that's how we like it! But sometimes, we get news that isn't as great as the rest. That's just how the cookie crumbles, right? But enough beating around the bush, I'll get right down to it: we have to change the name of our band. Our new album we be released on August 1st under the name Monty Are I. The new album will be titled "Wall Of People."

It's slightly ironic that we were in almost the exact same position a year ago, which may make this whole thing seem kinda silly. But we were really excited to make that change last year, and this time around we don't really have a choice. There are other bands with the name Monty, who have released music before us. We don't own the copyright to the name, so we can't legally use it. So, as Monty or even Monty's Fan Club, we're just a lawsuit waiting to happen, and that's a risk we can't afford to take. A band from Cranston, RI playing locally and regionally, mostly under the radar and in the underground scene could more likely get away using the name. But the more we do, the more people we reach, the more we "spread the monty love"--the more we're putting ourselves at risk, doing something illegal by using a name that we don't physically own.

But at the heart of this issue, the fact remains the same: we're 100% the same band we were yesterday and the day before, and will always continue to be. No matter what our name is, that will never change. We successfully changed our name once and we can do it again! We've all got years and years of great memories with MONTY, which is why we kept MONTY in the new name, but none of those memories are going to magically disappear just because we have to call ourselves something different! They'll end up being more special to all of us who've lived them personally--more special to all of you who have been with us from the beginning.

Thanks for all your support. And here's to many more years with all of you.

much love,
-Monty Are I-

I miss Monty's Fan Club when they were playing around in the local CT scene. I'm glad these guys are getting the recognition they deserve. Great live show too.

When they were Monty's Fan Club, I still called them "Monty" for short and I will continue doing so with this moniker.

You're from Waterbury, I'm from Watertown.
Also, shouldn't your sig say 'Horsemen of the Wii' now?
The group name lost its edge. haha.
(Can't wait for the system all the same)

I am not fan of Monty, and I think this name change is a bad idea.
Not as bad of an idea as some name changes. (discussed above)

It sucks that they were forced to change their name. Nothing they could do about it. :/ Even though the name is different, they still effin' rock.

Monty has changed their name to Monty Are I (http://www.purevolume.com/montyarei).

so basically, they went from bad to worse. not only is it worse, but now it's awkward. i don't like these band names that have "i am" in them (or "are i").

Why can't they just change their name back to Monty's Fan Club? and while they're at it they can change their sound back to ska.

These guys own! i think its great that the "Are I" is a refrence to there hometown(RI). The red shift is a great cd and they are one of the best bands to see live. Although Monty was great, Monty Are I is cool!

Your opinion is your own. I think Monty is the shit. I've been digging them since I first heard Hearts Bleeding. Back when I was in Long Shot Hero I almost shit myself when I found out we had shows together. I'm a fan.

I like all the replies that say "What a bad idea" or "Monty was a better name" etc.

You obviously didn't bother to read the rest of the news post or you would see that this wasn't just an idea they had. "Oh, let's change the name. I'm bored with it!" They HAD to change it.

at least they're not calling themselves wall of people, because when i saw them a couple weeks ago justin was showing me the artwork and they were calling themselves wall of people and the cd was named built by monty. personally i think 'built by monty' would have been a great new band name.

but yes, they didn't have a choice. and, the artwork i saw looks ABSOLUTELY amazing... but the new tracks are even better.

Yeah. Ryan told me the name was going to be Wall of People as well. And that they turned down the Monty Are I idea. hah. Must have been a reeaalllly last minute decision.
