Monty has changed their name to Monty Are I (http://www.purevolume.com/montyarei). The band's new album will be out on August 1st through Stolen Transmission.
Hello, beautiful people!
It probably seems like we've been nothing but FULL of big news, lately, with lots to be happy about. And for good reason, because it's been a busy year so far, and it's only going to get busier--and that's how we like it! But sometimes, we get news that isn't as great as the rest. That's just how the cookie crumbles, right? But enough beating around the bush, I'll get right down to it: we have to change the name of our band. Our new album we be released on August 1st under the name Monty Are I. The new album will be titled "Wall Of People."
It's slightly ironic that we were in almost the exact same position a year ago, which may make this whole thing seem kinda silly. But we were really excited to make that change last year, and this time around we don't really have a choice. There are other bands with the name Monty, who have released music before us. We don't own the copyright to the name, so we can't legally use it. So, as Monty or even Monty's Fan Club, we're just a lawsuit waiting to happen, and that's a risk we can't afford to take. A band from Cranston, RI playing locally and regionally, mostly under the radar and in the underground scene could more likely get away using the name. But the more we do, the more people we reach, the more we "spread the monty love"--the more we're putting ourselves at risk, doing something illegal by using a name that we don't physically own.
But at the heart of this issue, the fact remains the same: we're 100% the same band we were yesterday and the day before, and will always continue to be. No matter what our name is, that will never change. We successfully changed our name once and we can do it again! We've all got years and years of great memories with MONTY, which is why we kept MONTY in the new name, but none of those memories are going to magically disappear just because we have to call ourselves something different! They'll end up being more special to all of us who've lived them personally--more special to all of you who have been with us from the beginning.
Thanks for all your support. And here's to many more years with all of you.
much love,
-Monty Are I-
