View Full Version : has anyone here ever bleached their hair?

Basically, this weekend I've been bleaching my hair TRYING to get a super white/ash blonde.
and I was just wondering if anyone here has even gone through this and can heeeeelp me a little.
My hair is mostly really yellow(like the inside of a banana peel) and a little brassy on the ends, and the roots and about 1/4 past the roots is white. Sounds crazy :\
I need it to be all white!
What I did already was:
Use a level 40 bleach kit,
a violet based toner that came in the lever 40 kit.
Then I used level 20 bleach and toned it with Wella Frosty Ash.
Then I dyed it Light Ash,
and toned it with some left over toner form the level 40 bleach kit.
so now what should I do?
I was thinking about putting hydrogen peroxide on a few streaks that are a little more orange than the rest, then buying a toner and toning it again.
I doubt anyone here will help haha, but it's worth a try.. I'm clueless.
Thanks :)
no but thanks for asking.

The violet based toner hasn't worked? And you used a 40 base? Damn. Did you leave it set? That worked for me when I bleached mine, in combination with using shimmer lights purple shampoo every week.
I'd try to tone it again, definitely use the violet bases, they work wonders. Just try not to do too much more too soon so your hair isn't perma damaged foreverr.

What kind of toner did you use?
I think I'm going to buy Manic Panic in Virgin Snow since it's violet based, but I've been hearing mixed reviews about how well it works.

All of that sounds complicated, make sure you dont ruin it.

I believe it was just basic 20 Clairol. Do you guys have a beauty supply store there that you're shopping at? (We have Sally Beauty Supply) Normally if you ask someone who works in there, they are super knowledgeable and know what to tell you to do to help you!
I haven't really messed around with a ton of toning because I have naturally dark blonde hair..soo..it wasn't a lot of work to get mine lighter..I do know how much the orange/brassy sucks though, its's so frustrating to get rid of.

Yeah I'm going to Sally's tomorrow hopefully someone there will help me haha.
Most of my hair is the color I'm trying to get, but a lot of is is still brassy, I hate the brassy ugh.
I've been googling for hours on how to get it out! I even added purple kool aid to my shampoo :/
You're lucky you started out with dark blonde, I started from basically black!
So frustrating!

Yeah, occasionally there is just a retarded girl working in there that doesnt help at all and it's like 'k get the fuck out.'
the brassy sucks cause it's so like bright and doesn't want to leave. I never have thought of the purple kool aid! Starting out with black is sooo hard to do unless you like pay someone to professionally strip it. Ugh. I hate hair.

I know! I don't understand why the brassy won't leave! I bleached my hair about a year ago and it turned out good not platinum but not brassy at all just ash blonde. I basically did everything that same this time.. the only thing I can think of that I did differently is that this time I didn't add actual laundry bleach to the hair bleach mix. I figured that'd be way too damaging, and probably wouldn't make a huge difference.

Yeaaah I have never used laundry detergent on my hair but I have heard that works..but I'd think that'd basically kill it! Well hopefully the purple stuff will all work..it should.
..Just use lotsaaaa conditioner after this is all over with, hahaha

Hydrogen peroxide alone actually does nothing to the colour of your hair. It must be mixed with a gelatin bleach and applied.
Depending on your natural hair colour, you are only going to get it white/blonde with several rounds of bleach, and you are definitely going to fry it into straw and damage it.
Happy blondings.

Well, if you do, just go to the hair place and get a hot oil treatment or something, I do that like once a month...I dont dye my hair though.
Oh look at that, they bonded over their hair. They're probably on the same cycle now too.
That happened to me when I was staying my friend's house, when we were both pmsing I swear I was going to strangle her in her sleep, because she was such a blanket hog, and then we fought over if we would buy pads or tampons. its horrible.

oh really? haha I was watching youtube videos/google searching and got results that said otherwise.
But I don't think I'm going to use it anyway, just tone it again.

It's a good thing that I'm doing it because I like how it looks, not because I care about your penis preferences.

But I don't think I'm going to use it anyway, just tone it again. That's information from someone I know who dyes their hair a different rainbow colour every month, and who needs to bleach it white every time they switch the colour. Additionally, I have watched my friends dye their hair and use hydrogen peroxide alone to attempt to lighten pieces, with no result at all.
So that's just my experience. Be my guest and soak your head in acid though.

I wouldn't recommend bleaching your hair on your own at ALL. It's the worst possible thing you could do to your hair. It will completely destroy your hair if you don't know what you're doing, especially to the extreme alterations you want.
Go to a salon. If you can't afford that, try going to a high end beauty store or even just walk into a salon that sells products and ASK all the questions you need too before you do it.
Getting second opinions won't hurt either.
It's not worth becoming bald or having your hair become dry, brittle, unmanageable and breaking off.
And depending on how fast your hair grows, if it's really bad, there is nothing you can do about it but wait until your hair grows back normally.
I speak from experience.

this is completely what i came in here to post. go to the salon and have them fix it. do not do anything else to it or you will end up breaking it off.
not to mention, didn't you have beautiful long brunette hair? damn. some people would have killed to have your hair/color and you're basically ruining it. sad.

I had the front part of my hair bleached before, and granted, the chick who did it has done hair before, but it took almost a year for the split ends to completely go away. Just don't do it unless you get somebody professional.

Well my hair's been bleached before, I bleached it a year ago, and my hair was never really long I wore extensions :)
Nothing I can;t get back to in a month or so if I hate this hair.

I couldn't be bothered to read through the whole thread but I'll tell you what I did to get mine from dark brown to white. I bleached it all twice with a 40 vol, 12% thing, which got it pretty light, then I put a platinum blonde dye over it to take the yellow out which should also lightened it more.
