We're looking to bring some girls onto staff. Why? Because they're pretty to look at (just kidding, don't sue me). Anyways, if you're female and interested in getting into the music industry via AP.net, leave a message explaining what you want to do, what you can do, and what experience you have in the replies to this thread ONLY. I swear, if anyone IMs or emails me about this I'll say mean things to you until you cry. We're looking for motivated, self-driven individuals who promise not to sleep with all of the bands we cover.

Katie has already signed on and if I can convince Kaily she'll be working with us as well.

Is it alright if you live in another country? ha.
I go to quite a few gigs in Birmingham and wouldn't remind reviewing them/taking photos etc.
I also wouldn't mind reviewing cds and things like that. As for experience, i've taken photos for local bands and i usually take them at gigs anyways (like the paramore ones, which are quite poor since i wasn't in front row and there tends to be a biggish gap between the audience and band). I guess i don't really have any review writing experience to offer, but i enjoy writing and i like discussing bands and music.
But yeah there you go. :)

edit: elaborating on bands then, not many uk bands get coverage on ap like reuben and help she can't swim, you just get the more mainstream nme bands (not saying thats a bad thing but the uk has good bands to offer that americans don't get to hear about).
Most the bands i listen to tend to be girl fronted, at the moment i'm listening to Morningwood, The Sounds and The Roger Sisters alot, so it'd be cool to perhaps cover some of that area of music, especially with there increasingly being more female bands.
I also used to help with putting on gigs at our local youth house for about a year, and i'm currently near completeing my first year in a 2 year photography course at college.

i asked rohan about this a few months ago.. i think AP.net should start a department for writing music industry-related articles. i'd love to be a part of it and possibly interviews. either than that.. nah, i tried my hand at writing reviews and i'm just not too good at being terse.

-i'm majoring in journalism and politics @ NYU.
-if you'd like some samples of my writing, i think rohan said he forwarded them to you, but like i said.. that was a few months ago. i never heard back, but if you'd like to see them again i'd be more than willing to send it over.
-what can i do? i can do a lot of research and journalistic reporting. this past semester i was enrolled in a business writing class and among my projects (all of which received A's), were topics on Sony's Root Kit Scandal, Advertising Ploys, and the Fast Food Industry. of course, the latter two topics may not be so impressive, but i had to be a little broad and general since the class wasn't just for music-related projects. I can send those papers over to you too. they are a bit long though... 6+ (non double spaced) pages.
-what have i done in the past? i booked tours for about 2 years starting at the age of 17 (worked with This Providence, Forgive Durden). i may not have been the best agent (and i'll admit to that), but i sure as hell learned a lot about the basics of the industry in terms of booking shows, promotions, networking, etc. i dropped booking after realizing it wasn't for me. then, i interned for about a month @ ExcessDB in NJ in hopes of finding out what it is that i am good at, and thoroughly enjoy doing. this summer i'll be interning at Stunt Company (publicity company that handles motion city, anathallo).
-past education: a whole bunch of AP credits for English/Writing classes; scored 100% on an English/Writing standardized state test (for ny), etc.

i'm not sure what else you might want to know. i probably could have elaborated more, but i don't like talking about myself extensively. if there's anything else, i've got a formal resume, or you can feel free to PM.

I've been involved in this sort of deal for a good 4+ years now. www.tragicendings.net but it's not as fun working on it all by yourself. i want to be a part of a team. not do everything alone. haha. but yeah, i've had that for quite a few years now.]

I rule at promoting bands [ i run the hidden in plain view street team (It's on a hiatus for now until they get cracking on their new album)

I do interviews. Photos (as you've seen). www.tragicendings.net/photos]

I go to a TON of shows so it's no problem covering things. hah. [at LEAST once a week]. I live in MA. In between Boston & Providence. But go to lots of shows in the general northeast.

I'm sure I could bring something useful to the site.

I'd love to work at AP.net. I'm a journalism major, currently in the last week of my junior year. Along with the journalism courses I've taken, I've also worked at our school paper (last year), which is a weekly publication, so I'm familiar with proper interviewing techniques and what not. I don't have much experience writing reviews, but it's something I'm definitely willing to learn in hopes of becoming more familiar with critical writing because our school doesn't offer courses geared toward that area and that's what I'd ideally like to do with the rest of my life. (Ultimate Goal: music journalist). And I'm not a whore, so I'm not going to sleep with any of the bands, haha.

I think it'd be awesome to work for AP.net.

I used to run my own local music magazine called Neon Static, and I've done interviews with bands such as The working Title, The Rocket Summer, Something Corporate, Sleeping at Last, The Format, As Tall as lions and Augustana.
I'm majoring in Journalism with a focus on pr and print at VCU.
I've been published in my local newspaper before and I've also had some of my lyrics published in a nationwide poetry book.
I'm always attending shows and I know quite a few people involved with bands and booking.
I used to play guitar in a band so I have a perspective of what it's like to be involved in creating music.
I used to also work at my colleges radio station.
I'm in the process of trying to put together a concert to benefit autism research.
Most importantly though, I'm 100% dedicated to music, it's pretty much my life.

EDIT: If you need samples of my work please let me know, my email address is piratesyellarrrr@aol.com.

Alright, well, I'm a girl, and I want to work in the music industry, and I'm definitely not interested with sleeping with all the bands, so I think I'm good to go? Heh... here goes nothing.

I'm more skilled with computer graphics, I'm on the 'net 24/7. I'm in university right now in a media program at Uni of Western Ont., but we don't get a lot of hands on stuff, but I know my way around all Adobe programs - I'm really comfortable with all that. A lot of things I've learned a self-taught; I've got the motivation and passion for anything I get myself involved with and this would be no different.
I've done promotions, street teaming and merching for bands - signed & unsigned. I do some photography - I have a Nikon Film SLR, but until I get my digital SLR, I suppose that's all a little useless. I've also volunteered briefly with the campus radio, and next year I intend to be fully involved with it on the promotions/music side - doing reviewing, interviewing and all that. I'm starting to teach piano [played since I was five] and absolutely love music. I live in Toronto in the summer and London in the school year. Toronto's a hotspot for all that is music and more as you know, and London always have local bands visiting. I listen to any kind of music really... this IS absolutePUNK.net, but I love pop, rock, folk, hiphop, all of that. I go to concerts all the time and music consumes my life.

So, that's me in a bubble.
Good luck everyone.

well than.

im alisha. i love music. im 17 and a junior in high school. my passion is music. i want to get into the music business someway or another one day. I figure that no other job would do me any justice since music is pretty much my life. I realize its a hard business, but i can't settle for anything else. Ap.net would definitely help with getting me started into that. Unfortunately, i guess i have no experience. Except that im always listening to music, and always going to shows. I would say im pretty knowledgable when it comes to music too. All my friends are always asking me about this band they heard because they know that i will know who they're talking about.

what i want to do? i'll do whatever is needed. i can write reviews, post news, interview, mediate a forum. Im not actually sure of everything you guys do, but im willing to learn and work hard at whatever is needed. Like i said, music means a lot to me, and doing something involving music would be awesome. and im sure working for ap could definitely help out later on in my hopefully music business career.

So I'm not very active on ap.net but I'm working on it...

Experiences:
-Street teaming hardcore style
-Interning with Glory Days Booking and Promotions (a local independent promoter)
-Running/designing CampTAI.net (yes, no mean jokes please)
-Advertising/marketing major
-Writing: only experience was writing editorials and pieces on music for my high school newspaper way back when. Other than that, I write for fun.
-Editing: University of Florida Undergraduate Catalogue (Online Edition)

Why:
Ultimate goal for me is to work at a label. I feel that being part of this staff would help with networking and just gain general experience in the music business, getting a more objective view on it before plunging into the seedy, greedy underbelly of the music industry (half kidding). Writing samples are available if so requested.

...and no, I'm not looking to get "busy" with musicians. Not on company time, anyway. Ok, kidding again.

I'd do it in a heartbeat.

As for writing, I pretty much do freelance stuff.
I go to shows from Maine (where I live) to NJ and in between. All different types. I average about 2-3 a week. I'm a huge supporter of touring bands, and enjoy live music more than the normal person. Its pretty much become a lifestyle for me, going to shows. I don't really commit myself to one genre.

Plus, I like Morrissey. So I should get like 10 extra Tate points.

I'd be up for it.
Lets see...stuff that i've done in the music world.
I've book some shows, promoted some shows, nothing too different from a lot of people on here.
I have my own clothing line [booth at flipside] that supports bands. Amber Pacifics drummer wore the clothes a lot on the recent take action tour. Deals with other bands in the works but I can't name them yet.
I've done reviews for shows and albums for local papers and have also taken pictures at shows for papers.
I'd be up for interviews as well.
I goto shows in baltimore, DC, Pittburgh and place inbetween.
I spend way too much on gas to goto all these shows.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
I'm a marketing major in college.
I'm legal [21] so I can goto all shows.
And I think most importantly, I am a woman.

I have to goto class now.

I'd love to apply for this.

Im 19 years old and I've been working in the music business for a good 3 years now. My first experience was working in music promotion at Tremor.com which is a huge corporation that deals with promotions through word of mouth dealing with things such as music, sports, fashion, etc. and works with Proctor & Gamble. I then worked with BeyondThePit doing promotions for a few bands that worked with them. I find it hard to work int he music business as a woman, however, throughout doing this I've made many friends throughout the business ( not only bands but label a&r, reps, etc. ) and have gained respect in all of them. I put 110% dedication into the business because it's a business I believe in and will one day be at the top of my game with.

Im in the early stages of beginning co-owning my own record label and co-owning a clothing company. I also have my own band photography company that I've been doing for a year now and I've shot Warped Tour '05, Blindside, the XBOX 360 Tour, Chiodos, 30 Seconds To Mars, etc., and will be shooting upcoming shows for Jupiter Sunrise, Kaddisfly, Let Go, Undermind, Drop Dead, Gorgeous, Bane, This Is Hell, and Warped Tour '06. I was asked to join RockinRoadies.com on the entire Warped Tour '06 to do photography from the owner himself but turned it down due to financial reasons. I've booked a few shows but it's not something I, myself, am interested in doing since Im more of into the business aspect. And, I currently work as a main photographer for DrivenFarOff.com where I usually report news on a daily basis if asked since photography is my main job. I also believe groupies are the worst thing to ever happen to the music business, considering they give girls who want to make something of themselves a certain stereotype. I can't tell you how many guys I've talked to in the business that believe the majority of the girls just want to meet them for the sex, even though they know that's not the case.

I believe Im skilled enough to work for AP.net because not only do I have what I believe is a lot of experience in this business, but Im a hard worker that has never let anyone down. The job I'd be "applying" for would most likely be a news reporter and photographer. I juggle jobs and never have a problem with doing what Im hired to do. I believe that I not only represent myself, but the job as well and hold myself in high responsibility to come off as a good representation of my job. Im a great people person and I love meeting new people so getting to know the staff wouldn't be a hard job on my part. Most importantly, I dont limit myself to one type of genre. I think all types of music are amazing so there wouldn't be ONE genre I'd always be reporting on if that were the case. It'd be an honor to work with AP.net because I know how incredibly respected the website is in the business and would love to part a part of the team. With all that said, I hope Im chosen and I look forward to working with you and the rest of the staff.

Don't be a twat. Paul doesn't do reviews (and I assume at least one person would be hired for that), and we can have more than one person covering a genre that wide either way.

Being a "twat" is my current function here.

I'm curious what type of music the applicants want to cover. Any of you care to elaborate?

lets see...
my last.fm user name is ButImNotYou, but thats not really that representative. My right now in my car is my car is Mineral. I collect Jimmy eat World and Get Up Kids 7" records. As for newer music, my taste spans from Thursday and Emery to The Rocket Summer The Spill Canvas. My guilty pleasure is ska, but don't tell anyone.
I hope that helps a bit.

I was a journalism major for two months if that counts. I mean I would love to work for AP.net. But what skills could I have that would make you want to hire me?

Here's what I'm saying...

I'm a Journalism major, so I LOVE to write and I do so on a regular basis. I've been writing since I was old enough to hold a pen.
I play guitar.
I love to video/photograph.

What would I like to do for the site?

i asked rohan about this a few months ago.. i think AP.net should start a department for writing music industry-related articles. i'd love to be a part of it and possibly interviews. either than that.. nah, i tried my hand at writing reviews and i'm just not too good at being terse.

-past education: a whole bunch of AP credits for English/Writing classes; scored 100% on an English/Writing standardized state test (for ny), etc.

i'm not sure what else you might want to know. i probably could have elaborated more, but i don't like talking about myself extensively. if there's anything else, i've got a formal resume, or you can feel free to PM.
i vote for her. brings a lot to the table with education and music.

Don't know if your looking for girlies in other countries but I live in London and am fairly involved in the scene down here.
I DJ in rock clubs and at an internet radio station.
I've interviewed lots of bands including Alkaline Trio, Anti-flag, Panic! at the Disco, Fat Mike, Sick of it All, Swingin Utters, I am the Avalanche, Taking Back Sunday and loads more.
I did Journalism and radio at university here in London, and I was Head of Music at my student radio station.
I've written from some online zines before and for Big Cheese Magazine, which is a rock magazine here in the UK.
I go to loads of gigs and interview bands a lot, and i would so be up for doing interviews or reviews from UK, from the big bands to smaller gigs and unsigned UK bands.

I like interviews that are a good read. IE: interesting, good information & occasionally entertaining.
I'm not going to strangle someone for doing an interview that isn't perfectly structured, etc.
If it's a good interview -- it's a good interview.
I think sometimes people worry too much about how to set up their shit than to actually write something worth reading. =/

Thank you Jason, we need some girl contributors around here.
I think I'm pretty well qualified to be on staff here at ap.net.
I'm on countless street teams for bands & labels, so I have acces to tons of exclusives, tour dates & the like (I'm a promotion pro, which couldn't hurt.). I go to an absurd number of shows all around the midwest (Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas & Illinois mostly) & do occasionally travel to random parts of the country (AKA Bamboozle this weekend) for shows. I also take live band photography for myself, a local zine & bands themselves (The Showdown, Showbread, Chasing Victory, War of Ages & others). I have a ridiculously wide range of music taste, so I'd bring more to the table than just one genre (I enjoy anything from straight up pop to punk to hardcore & back again). I've given several interviews in the past & would like to get in the habit of doing them again (past ones include Sugarcult, Limbeck & others) & I already know tons of touring bands that interviews with wouldn't be much of a problem. I go to shows for the love of music & to see friends & bands that I know & love, not to try & get in the pants of the bands (there are waaaaay too many girls out there like that). Last but not least, I have an intense passion for music. I have a strong desire to work in the industry & am on my way there.

Well, I don't stand a chance, but I do think it'd be cool to work for AP.... I write reviews for my high school paper and I've done a few interviews, but they were with the principals, a few teachers and the superintendent for the school levy. Lol. Occasionally, I take pictures for local bands, but that's usually it because it's harder for me to take pictures at bigger shows, considering that I'm short and people like to push my camera and I around. I like the filming interviews idea, but I'm horrible at editing.... Do I get brownie points, if I say that I'm always on this site? Lol.

So I can’t compete with things such as “I’m in my third year of studying journalism at (bamf university)”, actually I’m in the last days of my freshmen year and NOT coming back, buuut more importantly... I play my music really loud in my car and sing at all times, and my windows are not tinted, so I feel like that shows some dedication to music.

I will probably be one of those assholes who posts about John Mayer and other artists that seem to bring out every dbag in this place with their “am I seeing things or ISN’T this absolutePUNK.net and NOT absoluteHOMOWITHAGUITAR.net???” replies. My last.fm username is tinahammill, yeah I’m a piano rock fangirl, but I really haven’t been saving my vcard for Andrew, I swear... My favorite shows I’ve been to this year are Jack’s Mannequin and Say Anything, the last one I went to was Alkaline Trio last week.

I to go plenty of shows in the bay area, and since I’m dropping out of my current 4 year university (sorry mom and dad) to go to community college for the next year, I will have plenty of time to dedicate to shows and the site. I have a good attitude, I’m pretty chill, and I believe internet drama should be left to the professionals. (http://community.livejournal.com/girlkilledmom/profile)

And yes my username is from a Dashboard song, I’m a teenage girl, it doesn’t need any more justification than that...

Hey I agree with you

I'm at the end of my Freshman year at IU. I was accepted into IU's Journalism Program. I'm taking classes for Creative Advertising and Public Relations. I buy more CDs than anyone I know. I can't go any amount of time without music. I've been writing since I was really young. I have a really strong desire for music. I can honestly say that I have been moved and touched by music. My musical tastes range from John Mayer to The Used to AC/DC to Rascal Flatts.

When I'm at school, I'm only an hour away from Indianapolis, which holds a lot of concerts. When I'm home, I'm within an hour from The Stone Pony, Asbury Park Convention Hall, Starland Ballroom...etc.

I think writing reviews, even interviewing bands can have a good impact on my education. I think it would be such a great opportunity for me. I just wish I had more to bring to the table.

I would love to work for AP.net, I actually PMed Jason months ago asking why there weren't any girls on staff and never got a response. I think I could bring a lot to AP. I love music, read posts here everyday, I read AP magazine and Rolling Stone all the time, work on a few street teams (Jack's Mannequin and Mae), and am an all around music nerd. My favorite thing in the whole world is making mixtapes.

I'm a TCOM Major at Ball State looking to go into Radio and/or Web Design so this would be right up my alley. In addition to reading a lot about music, I go to just about any show in Indiana and most in Columbus or Cincinnati. I usually average at least 2 shows a month, maybe more. In April I saw, Jack's Mannequin, Ben Folds, Alkaline Trio, and Against Me! In March, No Use for A Name (with I am the Avalanche, Punchline and sadly no Suicide Machines), the Truckstops and Statelines Tour, and Augustana. As you can see I have a pretty broad range of music I like and I'm constantly trying to find more. Let me know if you would like me aboard!

Oh man I would love to work for this website but I havent really got much experience ever...
The best Ive done is take pictures of bands with my lovely regular digicam. I would love to interview people though. I just dont have any way of doing it without working for a place or something. Unless managers let random people just set up an interview with bands... one day I will work for a music website.

Jason dont you want actual links to any of these peoples work?
I mean saying something is one thing but actually showing and being good at it is another. I could say I am majoring in journalism and I could love it... but that deff doesnt make me good at writing. I kinda suggest people who are interested should post something that shows their talents in some way or at least a way for Jason to contact you for work. Just helping people out...

Yeah, I had mine on warped tour.. it was nice every day to be able to get on the bus, crawl into my bunk and talk on AIM to my friends and family, but at the end of my stint on the tour it kind of became useless so I gave it to my friend Anton (he's in several bands.. he's Bright Eyes/The Faint's touring violinist etc) He gets so much more use out of it than me, but I do want another one, but the photos of the sidekick III have surfaced and I can't wait :)

Yeah, I think if i was home a lot my sidekick would be virtually useless (especially since I don't get t-mobile service in my room... or most of my house for that matter). But I'm usually 2 hours away in another state... or I use it on my breaks at work. Stuff like that. It ends up being worth the money. But... it's almost a year old and it's just getting old. The screen is scratched to hell. The directional button is sticky. And my keyboard is slowly starting to popup. That's nothing compared to some people's though. Screens breaking off... keyboards coming off completely. Mine's mint compared to those. haha. Either way. I need an upgrade.

wow, crazy for this to come up just as i am coming into loads of free time. i am into this. what would i like to do? anything you want me to.... ok wrong choice of words, heh. but one of my main goals is to get seriously involved the music industry (management, design, journalism), i'm already pretty absorbed in it.

but i'm into media. and every single genre of music that exists, it's kind of ridiculous. so i could do anything in that respect.

qualifications? hmm. does being an editor of the yearbook and a contributing writer and artist to... 3 or 4 school publications count? won some writing awards, am made fun of because of how obsessed with music i am, promote bands out the arse and people actually follow my advice and listen to them, and was interestingly enough indispensible to the production of our yearbook since no one else knew anything about graphic design... yup.
i'm definitely willing to interview bands as well, i'm at ease with band members. not to the point of sleeping with them, ha. but i can't go to a show without making friends with 'em.

Nope. I pay $65 a month for phone & internet.
I don't use it as a phone. So in June I'm probably going to change my plan to just web. That's when my year will be up. I did both because there was a site where if you signed up for both plans, you get the sidekick for $100 with 2 $50 rebates. Rather than paying $350 or whatever for the sidekick.

Since everyone posting here seems to be pretty qualified for the job, I'll post why I'd be unique:
1. I've been known to like bands that mainly 35 to 50 year olds like and that normally don't get covered on this website (the Magic Numbers, Paul Van Dyk, Jazzanova, Wilco, Los Amigos Invisibles, the Clientele, Rob Dickinson, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, Seu Jorge, Cat Power, anything else they play on KCRW).
2. I will listen to anything and classify music by what I like instead of what genre it's in (I like Lucinda Williams, I don't like Faith Hill. I like Mos Def, I don't like Chingy. I like the Go! Team, I don't care much for Morningwood. Etc.).
3. Between working at the college radio station, organizing concerts with my concerts committee, training to become a live sound engineer and classes I really don't have time to do much more than post really really really important news, review a couple of cds a week and make some off the wall recs.
4. That being said, I think the job sounds like fun and could definitely get a good amount of attention from me--even if I like the idea of having time to have a life.
5. I don't reply to very many posts at all on AP.net (partially because I really feel that news is news and if I'm gonna rant/discuss it with other people, I'll do it face to face with my adorable roommate).

4 years nardcore/hardcore concert production in Ojai during high school and 1 year here at 'SC (I know, where Paul Tao's from). 1 year radio station. 2 years as a music industry major. 1 summer working digital music distribution. Extensive history watching concerts and listening to music. You know, the usual qualification stats. I don't do journalism, I'm not great with words, I can't work photoshop/etc. for my life and I have no programming/computer language talents. The only thing I'm good at is music. That should be qualification enough.

Oh, and I don't care much for sleeping with band members. I've dated my fair share of rock stars and am completely over the whole rock star thing. I'd rather date a scientist or mathematician.

I'd like to work for AP. I haven't posted a lot, but I've been visiting the site for a few years now.

- I'm a journalism major. So far I've completed courses in Mass Media/Communications, News Reporting, Copy Editing, and an overall JOR course. From those classes I've learned to work on deadline, produce clear & concise copy, enterprise stories, seek out & develop sources, research skills, interview skills (notable interviews so far have been MJ from The Unethical Development Of Hopeless Romanticism and Chris from Punchline), and more. I'm skilled in QuarkXPress, though I don't know how I could work that into AP... but if I had to, I could!
- I've covered live events.
- I understand how the music industry works. I'm not a miracle whiz at it, but I'm not in the dark either.
- I have a proficient understanding of Associated Press style, as well as libel and slander law (which is pretty damn important).
- I have written music reviews, but I'm much better at interviews, gathering and writing news & stories, that sort of thing.
- I've been published in my campus newspaper, most notably an article on straight edge and hardcore.
- I am definitely self-motivated. I wouldn't be pulling in a 4.0 if I wasn't getting out there and getting stories by myself.
- My life is basically music. I've got a lot of time on my hands and fill the void with music. As for my taste, I'm all over the board. I mostly listen to ska, pop punk, powerpop, punk, emo, indie, electronica-punk, acoustic... well, I listen to anything. I'm just into music, like everyone else here I'm sure.
- I get to as many shows as I possibly can and I do have venues around me that get bigger bands, but I'm actually more into the smaller bands who are busting their asses to get somewhere - I'm more interested in them.
- My goal (not just in AP, but life) is to become a music journalist. I love writing about bands, promoting them, etc., but I also love getting the story out of a band. Everyone has a story and I think being able to draw a story out of someone and then tell everyone else about it is an amazing experience.

I don't have a Sidekick, but... I have a Professional Reporter's Notebook. You can tell it's professional because it says so on the cover, haha. I take good notes, too.

And I promise not to sleep with bands. Journalists, however, are another story, haha. Kidding, kidding. I'll be celibate for AP - that's my gimmick.

I think it'd be fun to work for AP; I go to a lot of shows, take a lot of pictures, I could write up reviews ... basically a bunch of that kind of stuff if you're all still looking for girls.

Jason,

I may not be have big boobs, or be a real girl. But I do beleive I could come work for you in-office at your home. I can dust, vacume, or even wear a cute little maid's outfit for you so you can slap my ass as I walk by.

You see, I want to work in-office with you so I can slowly steal CD's, and eventually work up to stealing all of your worldly posessions. I mean, come on, who wouldn't want to collect all sorts of Tate memorabilia? Me. That's who.

I've worked for 3 publications. One print (FocusMagazine), 2 e-zines (Crush The Can and I did a couple things at PunkInterviews).
I do photography.
I have a couple of really good ideas for APExclusives (jared knows a couple of them).
Actually, one that would be really successful I am sure.
Oh yeah, and I work at Guitar Center and I love and have experience in touring, show production and promotion.

So uhm. Yeah.
Pick me, pick me.
And my great idea I have.... ask me about it sometime. It really is awesome.

I'd definitely be interested in working on the staff. I was actually looking into it a few months ago, but never figured to E-Mail since, well... it's better to apply when someone's looking, I suppose. Anyway, I'm not in the "biz" by any means. In terms of my writing skills, I was the editor of my high school paper for two of the four years (my sophomore year I simply wrote for A&E) and was honored with a prestigious award in the Palm Beach Post journalism awards. Someone has said that my writing style can be read like poetry sometimes, but I beg to differ. I like to use words that flow really well with the artist I happen to be talking about. I've interviewed artists such as Sugarcult, the Early November, Story Of The Year, Yellowcard, and Jupiter Sunrise. I'm also a photographer and will be attending an art school in California this coming fall to major in my passion. (I'm also thinking about working on a minor in writing, but for right now, I'm focused on photography.) I was nominated for a Scholastic Art & Writing Award this past year for my photography; results have not yet been posted back. I've also done photoshoots with Sugarcult for Epiphone guitars and Vater drumsticks.

Honestly, I don't have any words of praise for myself other than what I mentioned above. I'm a hard worker - having been editor of the abovementioned newspaper as well as a literary magazine - and I'm level-headed. If I happened to be picked to work on this website solely based on my love for music, that would be fantastic. I'll admit to not liking a lot of bands that are featured on this website, but in return I can offer news coverage and reviews on more obscure bands - bands I feel as if I should introduce to the world, if you will. After all, sharing music with others is why my father and I opened up a record store in my town - J.A.M.S. (or, Just Another Music Store). Being around and talking to people who feel strongly about music is inspiring for my two forms of art, and I guess I would like to reach out a little more to those more like me.

I'll admit, I'm probably the least qualified person here, but I guess I'm applying myself as being true, being real, being a passionate music lover instead of a hard-workin' adult out in the big world! I am young, I don't have a real job (like working at a record store is a job, hah). I do enjoy having fun, even if that translates to alone time with my and my record player. Basically, I have time, and I'd love to take part in something so involved in the music scene. Overall, I guess my intent was to try and sell myself to the position based on my love for music and the love I have to talk about it, to share it with other people.

Oh, and of course, I attend numerous amounts of concerts/shows/gigs. As many as I can get to in south Florida anyway. (As it was noted above, however, I will be moving to California next year. Somewhat specifically, the Bay Area.) I'd be interested in writing CD and show reviews as well as taking photographs. I'm not much of an interview person.

Some of my work can be seen and read here, if interested: http://www.freewebs.com/apreggi/examples.html

And that's all I have to offer. This was a shot in the dark kind of application, but here's to hoping that shot will ring a bell.

Hello. My name is Sarah and you probably do not have any idea who I am because I do not use the message boards. I use Absolutepunk as a source for music news, and am extremely interested in getting involved in the music industry, and would love to do so through an information source such as this. I am an 18-year-old graduating high-school senior, and am going to Goucher College in Baltimore starting in August. In terms of experience, I have taken journalism, news journalism, phototography, and film courses. I have worked for a poetry press (Tupelo Press) as an intern and have written for my town's local paper. Recently, I took photos for We're All Broken (which I am in the process of developing as I type this). I have also completeled a documentary on Hurricane Katrina victims who are recieving aid from my high school's fundraising efforts. I know how to use Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro fluently.
I am interested in doing any sort of interviewing or reviewing. I love to analyze and explore new and old music, and I believe I could provide some interesting insight to new albums and conduct interesting interviews. I also would like to start some filmed interviews to offer on AbsolutePunk as exclusives ( I have all the equipment available in which to conduct, film, and edit these interviews).
Music-wise, my favorite band is Thursday. I also love Saves the Day, Circa Survive, BoysNightOut, Cursive, Minus the Bear, Say Anything, The Blood Brothers, Alexisonfire, Murder by Death, The Arcade Fire, Protest the Hero, Coheed and Cambria, We're All Broken, and other music in that vein.
I am located an hour away from Albany, NY in rural southern VT, but I frequent northern VT, New York City, and New Jersey for shows too, as I have access for places to stay in those areas.
If I could be of any use, please email me at killerxcore@excite.com or aim me at awakendtobegin. Thanks,
Sarah

Hi.

I hope I'm not too late for this, because, man, I really want it. Just the other day I was daydreaming about being able to write for this site. True story.

I'd do anything to get my foot in the big scary doors of the music industry. Reviews, interviews, promotions...whatever you people do around here, I'm totally into it. If it has anything to do with music, I'm game. If you want me to attend shows, that's completely okay with me. I go to as many shows a year that I can, including several small local shows. Oh how I love supporting the local scene. I don't limit myself to just the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, either. I've traveled to Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota, and even Washington for shows. My music taste is completely eccelectic, too. I don't not like a band merely because they're good looking (or not), have gotten too popular, or are classified as a certain genre. One of my favorite things to do is to poke around and discover new bands with new sounds and new ideas. I have to respect music in all forms.

For the past two and a half years I've been writing for a small magazine that features local entertainment here in Minnesota. Usually I get assigned to writing live show reviews, cd reviews, or previews of upcoming events. (For example, I just did a review on Quietdrive's new CD and articles on recent shows they've had in the area.) I also write feature pieces on local bands like Daizy Head Mazy and, of course, Quietdrive.

Along with a few of my friends, I've worked on promoting small bands from my home town, Sleepy Eye (yes, that's really what it's called, and yes, it's as boring as it sounds), by getting them gigs, creating press kits, writing large chalk messages about upcoming shows on skate parks, and just basically getting the word out. With that, I spent time in a recording studio watching a friend's band spin out a demo, so I know how the whole recording process generally works. I've also worked merch for different events in southern Minnesota, and a few shows for Ludo.

On top of that, I am a musician myself. I've been playing guitar for about 12 years now and writing my own songs since...well, since I picked up the guitar at age seven. At the moment, I am working on an acoustic project with two of my friends. I do most of the writing, both music and words. Lyrics are the most important component of a song in my opinion. I earnestly value a wide vocabulary and clever syntax.

In the next few weeks I will be finishing my first year of college here at St. Cloud State University. As of right now, I'm working on a Public Relations major, and doubling minoring in English (Creative Writing) and Music.

To be in accordance with the rest of the "applicants" in this thread, music is my everything. I've gone to great lengths just for the sake of a good show. Literally. This April, I drove to Seattle and back in just four days with my friend to see Vendetta Red's last show ever. (That's 48 total hours, and 3200 miles.) We didn't really have enough money, didn't really have enough time, and didn't really know what we were going to do when we got there, but none of that mattered. All of that was worth it times a million in the end...Mostly because we ended up staying at Leif's (the guitarist) house, and slept in his bed. NO, not with him!! He slept on the couch. I'm not into that.

To sum all of the above up, my entire life consists of writing, music, writing music, and writing about music. Is that what you were looking for?

Thanks!

Aimis G. Funk

Alright, after reading a few of the posts from girls interested, I realized I'm not as qualified as some. But I would still like to be given a chance.

I would like to write reviews, do interviews, photography, or even just give my opinion on a subject.

I've always done well in English and writing classes.
I am in my second year of college and I am studying film/TV/video productions. I want to do anything involving film, but my main interests are music videos, music documentaries, etc.
Past film/music projects I have done for classes have been a live and taped interview with a local band member and a "music picture show" using still pictures I took to match lines of Motion City Soundtrack's 'Hold Me Down'.
I design and make clothes and other apparel in my free time.
I am a musician. I have been playing percussion for almost 9 years.
I attend a lot of shows(local and tours) and at times I will take notes and write my own reviews for my personal viewing. I also don't live farther than 20 minutes away from any of the concert venues in my city and attend Summerfest(in Milwaukee, the largest music festival in the world)every year.

I have opinions, but I also respect and listen to others opinions as well, even if I disagree and argue against them.
I listen to a wide range of music and will give anything a chance. If I particularly don't(or do) like or listen to a certain band or type of music, I have logical reasons why or why not.
Music isn't and has never been just a phase for me and I realized this when I was very young.

I don't know if this will matter, but I am bilingual. I can speak, read, and write Spanish.

Also, I won't sleep with any band members. Promise.

-Amis

Reasons you should hire me, Louise, and stuff that I can bring to the table:
- As observed by my post count, I'm past addicted to this place.
- I'm BFF's with Paul Tao hahahaha.
- I do sweet interviews, show photos and graphic design/merch design, all over at HSB.
- Currently I do promo and some booking for local and touring bands in my city and I would like to think that I have a pretty good knowledge of the music industry.
- I've designed several shirts for various bands (mostly locals or touring canadian bands), some that get coverage on AP.
- I listen to everything, but mostly indie, hardcore and metal...
- ...And because of that I think I can bring more variety and dimension to AP's table since I'm not the typical pop-punk-piano-rock girl. Oh, and I'm actually knowledgable about the genres as well, I'm not just one of those girls that says she listens to the Blood Brothers because it'll make her cooler.
- I am very easy to work with and lots of your staff already like me (or at least pretend to haha)
- I can code in HTML, CSS and PHP pretty fluently and have a working knowledge of ASP and XML.
- I have been doing graphic and webdesign for about 5 years and have been selling my designs for the past 2.
- I have swt photoshop skillz hahaha
- I do great interviews and I get along very well with people.
- I've done a lot of show photography for local bands and have gotten the opportunity to do bigger bands recently (ToC, STD, Moneen, Circa, Minus The Bear) Examples are uploaded over at the HSB galleries.
- Being a Canadian, I would be able to get more coverage on bands that might not be all over the scene yet in the US. I also have the advantage of covering an area that AP doesn't currently have anyone in. Plus, being Canadian is just cool.
- Oh, and I'm 19-turning-20 so I have no problem going to shows over here
- Like everyone else that has applied, I got to a lot of shows. So many in fact, that Gabe calls me a scenester (haha, i love you Gabe :P)
- I'm very punctual, enthusiastic and professional!
- I speak Swedish so if any crazy Swedish bands are trying to get in contact with you, you can just toss them over to me!

I'll try to make this short and sweet: I'd primarily be interested in taking photos for AP.net. Since you already have 2 staffers in ATL, I don't want to step on anyone's toes. But if you ever wanted me to do reviews or interviews, I'd be more than happy to. My qualifications: I write for 3 newspapers in the Southeast. I have my own webzine (www.rockpress.net (http://www.rockpress.net)). I used to manage bands. I co-own a record label (www.anchorlessrecords.com (http://www.anchorlessrecords.com)). I have booked tours/shows for bands. I frequently photograph shows. You can check out my webzine for samples of my work. The reason I want to take photos for AP.net is that my full-time job is preventing me from having a lot of spare time to do an entire webzine by myself. I'd like to contribute to someone else's site for a bit.

Hi I'm Ann. As you can see, I don't post very much compared to others applying but of course AP.net is my main source for music news. I'm interested in doing album reviews. I'm a junior in high school, but I've had plenty of experience when it comes to writing/journalism in general. Features editor of school newspaper, going to state UIL soon for features writing & headlines, album reviewer for forthesound.com, and interning at Houston Chronicle (largest paper) for the entertainment editor (who use to work for Rolling Stone.. hahaah shitty magazine though) I think I have plenty of exposure to not just journalism and writing in general, but also to music with pretty broad tastes from stuff like The Decemberists to The Exit to... John Mayer/Jack Johnson to most of the hyped up AP.net bands. I'd like to think I'm a pretty damn good writer and that's what I hope to bring to AP.net- reviews that are not just well and [at least I hope] uniquely written, but show my love for music objectively. I listen to pretty much anything except screamo/hardcore and hope to do the stuff that doesn't seem to be covered very much but something I'm got a lot of experienced in- Perhaps doing album reviews the "AbsoluteUNSIGNED" kind of bands that gives the bands more hype? I do plenty of local bands album/show reviews for my school paper.

Why I'd like to join this staff? I'd like to be a music journalist aiming to go to Northwestern for college majoring in journalism and hope this would give me more exposure to both music and journalism. I also think I'm a damn good writer haha. The main thing reason I would like to work here is- I love music. I think the majority would agree with this statement though haha.

Hopefully my reviews speak for themselves:

wow, so many replies on this I'm sure I've missed the boat already but anywho...

My background:

- I am a 5th year (part-time) University student (Bachelor of Arts - Psychology and English)
- I work part-time as a political analyst
- I have also worked in marketing, sales and public relations
- I am very active in my local music scene, having been a member of some local bands (although I am not currently making music)
- I am extremely time-efficient and adhere very strongly to deadlines

- The most important thing you should know about me is that I'm Australian. Whether that will hinder my chances or not is, at this point I guess, somewhat indefinite, but regardless it's a point which should be taken into consideration particularly considering our growing scene down here.

Further to that, I would like the opportunity to promote this website amongst our community - emo/punk is experiencing a significant period of growth down here (Australia is a small country, but punk/emo is one of the foremost styles of music that kids are into - indeed, the music taste of Australian's has always been more skewed towards rock/alternate styles than it is in other parts of the world). I feel i could best promote this site amongst our community by being a member of staff - it would give Australian kids someone at your site whom they could identify with, and might also increase the exposure of some wonderful bands that we've got popping up all over the place down here.

I believe that it is in the best interest's of this site that you seek to expand your market as best you can, and if you are to hire me as a member of staff you would be getting an employee who would seek to do this in every possible way - by assisting you in formulating marketing and promotion strategies for your website so that you could further enhance your profile in the Australian scene (or even the American scene - I do not feel my skills are simply limited to a particular hemisphere or continent), and working to ensure that your objectives in relation to the site are met at every possible turn, and met as efficiently as possible.

My music interests began in emo (bands such as American Football, Christie Front Drive, The Get Up Kids, etc.) Currently, my favourite bands are the Appleseed Cast, the Jealous Sound, The Receiving End of Sirens, and Circa Survive. This, along with a healthy dose of pop-rock and some metalcore is, essentially, the music I would wish to cover if working for this site.

My interests in terms of having an official role with AP.net include reviews, news postings/updates on the Australian scene, and marketing/PR.
Finally, it should be noted that, although you already have staff who write political articles, my current employment is as a political analyst, and I would be very interested in contributing articles on issues and current events.

Finally, the most important thing to note is that I absolutely live for music. One of the primary reasons I browse this site is to share and promote passion for music, and this is what I would most hope to share with the members of this site in the role of an AP.net staff member.

I can't think of anything more to add right now. Of course, if you have any questions as to any of my details please IM or email me.

I estimate that I would be able to allocate approximately 20-30 hours a week to my AP.net duties.

Mmm hold a grudge much?

Although I must say, any pwning you do of Jordan in the future, whether it be legit or not, I am fully behind you all the way dude...

Yeah, Jordan is an idiot. I think when you're "infamous" to the lead singer of the band you idolize, something is probably wrong.. but I'm not going to unearth this whole thing again, it's so dumb. I could go on for hours elaborating on why the people associated with the band can't stand him.

As for grudges - I don't think it's a grudge.. I posted the photo as a joke, not my fault if she can't handle the truth behind her past actions.

Wow, it's really pathetic that you hung on to that for six months.

So I'm guessing maturity really ISN'T a factor in becoming a staff member.

it laid dormant in my flickr account, I rarely delete anything because I'm lazy.. read up a few posts, it was used as a joke, don't take it so seriously.

Yea, I'm feeling pretty special that journalism is not my major.
But I normally feel special on a daily basis & not the kind with quotations.

yeah, journalism isn't my major either. but i like to think that i could write well enough. my journal shows it i guess.

I just think it's cool that you have images and stuff linking to things instead of just text.

Girls are pretty to look at, i agree.
I don't know if i have absolute experience for something like this, but I love to write and i try my best to do well with it. As far as music goes, I don't want to say it is my life in fear of sounding cliche and also because I try to live in a very broad spectrum. However, I do love music with my entire being. I go to more shows then I probably should, but I love that too. In regards to actual experience in the music business, I would say that as far as mine goes is selling merch...although I think that there's a lot to be said about knowing people, and I know a lot of people. By the way, Caleb Cattivera is one of my best friends in the entire world...but no name dropping :)
I would love to do whatever I could to become more active in something having to do with the wonderful music we all listen to. I love to write, and it seems that absolutepunk.net loves writers. I'm moving to Orange County in August, so I think that is a benefit in itself since the music industry there is extremely mobile.
THANKS!!!!

Hahaha that's like the only thing I miss about scene points, was just totally bitching people on ridiculous things like that.

okay well...

- 21 years old and graduating from seton hall in six days
- majored in comm with a concentration in PR
- grew up with a psycho punk rock mother who quizzed me on bands and yelled if i got things like the guitarist's first band's name wrong
- in love with going to shows
- awesome writing skills (i was an english minor)
- willing to do any promotions, deal with agents, publicists, media outlets and the like
- have put together numerous PR campaigns which include media guides, feature stories, press releases, ads and anything else you can imagine
- love to organize things and make them pretty
- also love to do research, as weird as that sounds
- took a bunch of desktop classes in high school and college
- my taste is music is crazy and i will listen to anything at least once
- i have an entire summer on my hands to do pretty much nothing and working for you would convince my parents that i'm at least doing something with my life

so i don't know if you're looking for anything PR related but i figured it didn't hurt to at least apply

I want scene points back so badly.. then annn can return to being the only person giving me negative points.. :) just kidding, but it would be neat to have them back.

I don't have a Sidekick, but... I have a Professional Reporter's Notebook. You can tell it's professional because it says so on the cover

Haha, I have one of those too. Actually, I have a few floating around here, lol. Forget Sidekicks, I would be lost without my Professional Reporter's Notebook.
