There is a rumor floating around that Taking Back Sunday's (http://www.absolutepunk.net/takingbacksunday) latest album Louder Now will debut at number two on the Billboard Top 200 Charts selling 156,190 units. What do you all think of the new album?

It's good, Brooklyn is the best song, but I moved on from the cd already. Albums are too hard to listen to now adays (for me). I stick to personalized playlists, so I hear what I want when I want. The HelloGoodbye and Forgive Durden albums are what I'm banking on, if they fall short 2006 will fall as yet another year of nothing good. I think we need a Glassjaw album to get out of this rut.

its fucking terrible. they've been my favorite band since before adam was the lead singer, and i've supported EVERYTHING they've ever done, even WYWTB. i thought it was a decent album with a handful of really well done songs - especially the closer.
this album is horrible. it's not catchy, the lyrics are about nonsense, every song sounds the same, and almost every one, besides makedamnsure, gives me a headache. 20/20 surgery is one of the worst songs i've ever heard.

i like the album a lot. but i think im one of the few that liked wywtb much better than tayf, so i was kinda dissapointed with it as a whole. i think they couldve written a better album. but there are some really good songs on it, like the opening track, make damn sure, and spin. and also, they did a really good job making error operator not suck anymore haha. i like that song a lot now.

At first all of the songs did sound the same and it didnt floor me, but i wasnt expecting to be floored. Though, Ive had it for a week now and when a song comes on my computer on random, i always have to look to see what song it is, but they are pretty good. This album def. got better after a few listens, but it does kind of run together. I will always love TBS though, no doubt about that.

Pre-adam was aweful and the epitome of not catchy.
This album is very catchy.
20/20 surgery is the worst song ever.
For the first time with the new line up they did actually write lyrics that make sense and have an actual story you can deciper easily.
The songs don't sound the same at all.

i think its great. At first listen i didnt like 1/4th of the songs but now i love all of them but one (Divine Intervention.. just doesnt catch me)..
For those saying its not catchy enough, i dont agree with you - Miami (which if you look at my earlier posts i said i totally hated), Error Operator, Spin, Twenty-Twenty Surgery, My Blue Heaven, MakeDamnSure, What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost.. hell most the album i find myself humming at one point during the day.
Its been a week and, with the new Thursday album behind it, its still on the top of my most listened to album of recent.

This album sucked me in like a Dyson. I like it a lot. Miami is now one of my favourite TBS songs, and I've been a fan since '99.

I think it's a big step up.
I personally, didn't like tell all your friends all too much. catchy, yeah, but I found it to be too personal of an album for me to like.
fred's bigger job of writing on this album really shows through, and i think him and matt joining the band is a leap forward in musical direction. finally some decent leads.
20/20 is pretty bad, though, and i love sound the alarm.

I really like it, I've been listening to it all week. I can't decide if I like it better than Where You Want to Be or now. I'm one of the few who adored that album (and yeah, I listened to Tell All Your Friends before WYWTB came out.) I can't stand I'll Let You Live, I think it's a terrible song and a terrible way to end the album.
i didn't buy the album. i don't like it. thank you for asking. buy my cd.

anybody who says this or WYWTB is better in any way, shape, or form than tell all your friends is an idiot. the lyrics on that record destroy anything else TBS has ever done. they make anything on their last record and this one seem like gibberish.

well, i enjoyed it at first, but i became bored quickly. it has no staying power, in my opinion. The opposite happened with TAYF and WYWTB, at first i was like 'eh', and then ended up loving them. Despite this, I hope to one day think of this album as i do those. TBS represents a time in my life that i'm not quite ready to let go of yet. maybe i'm lame.

I loved this album. I went to to Virginia (from kentucky) 7 hours each way, and its all i listened to. I think that there are a few songs that i will skip over but for the other like 95% of the album, it is an amazing step foward from WYWTB, and a bit of a harkening back to TAYF, with out trying to make the same album

wow, congrats. they allowed that album to be promoted to the fullest, and this is what happens. bottom line, you gotta play ball to sell records (i wish other bands would get this....)
about the album, i like it. i gotta say, i can feel the influence of the Alkaline Trio on it. regardless, good for TBS.

New tbs isnt bad...but for some reason it just doesnt do much for me...yet its still better than the new brandtson because its not as big of a let down. seriously people need to get the fuck over the whole "tell all your friends" and "full collapse" thing. no band wants to make the same cd twice. thursday's case is different because they actually surpassed both their albums but i don't know if taking back sunday ever will. they're not the same band as "tell all your friends". bands grow up and progress. it's that simple. they're call new albums not same albums.

I like it a lot, but I've only had it for like 5 days so we'll see what happens. It took me like 10 listens before I liked anything besides "spin" and "what it feels like to be a ghost". Miami is a pretty sweet song in my opinion and for all you who are saying they didn't try anything different, I would say that song is different. Ill Let You Live is really growing on me and Divine Intervention is kind of meh still. 20-20's chorus is pretty damn lacking, but the I really dig the rest of the album now. Brooklyn would make a great single in my opinion as well. MakeDamnSure is ok. The cd is better than WYWTB, but obviously not better than TAYF. I actually kind of like WYWTB, after getting over the fact it was a giant let down. I would have liked to see this cd outsell WYWTB, but I'm sure it will continue selling once it gets more play. I actually like this cd better than the new Saves the Day, and I do like the new Saves the Day. Not sure how it stacks up against Thursday since I just got that today. So far the Larry Arms record is my favorite this year, but all of the afforementioned releases will probably be in my top 10 by the end of the year. (still so many good releases left, Forgive Durden, Gatsbys, Brand New, TEN, Rise Against)

Can you not hear the guitars on the new album? They focus more on the guitar in many songs such as Error Operator and, expessially, Spin. They did do something a bit new on this album. I dont know what much else you could ask for or expect change wise. Would you like them to make a change like Thrice did? If you ask me they have matured a bit.. some of the chorus's (Twenty Twenty Surgery / Miami) arent exactly m y favorites but the rest of the songs are amazing.

People are going to shit on Louder Now no matter what. I have learned to deal with that.
That being said, people need to get over the fact that TBS will never release a record like TAYF ever again. Because it is one of the most amazing albums ever. There are very few bands that could release an album that would even be close to TAYF. Trying to compare any of TBS's other releases to TAYF is really just not fair.
Now, as for Louder Now as a whole. I love the record. I think there is lots of good songs. I think the guitar and vocal work is exceptional. Matt's bass lines are excellent imo. Spin and Miami are two amazing songs that I will be blasting from my car stereo for a long time. I even like 20/20 surgery. The chorus sucks, but I like the verses. The only downside I would say is that the song structure is very predictable. Most of the songs are basically verse chorus verse chorus (breakdown) chorus chorus.
I think it is an excellent album. Nothing groundbreaking but very solid imo. Can't wait to see them this weekend at Bamboozle and with AvA on the June 25.

why? they are timeless and will always be treasured by those who actually respect great albums and musicians. i honestly wish the TAYF line-up was still intact. matt is terrible at bass and, well, i actually dont have anything bad to say about fred other than he isnt as compatible with adam. the only thing that i have bad to say about the new album has already been said (20/20 sucks terribly). the new album isn't anything special, but its catchy as all hell. i just miss the amazing tag-team vocals from back in the day between adam and john when they complimented each other so well. fred is forever screaming on top of whatever adam is "singing" (that is, when he isnt mumbling random side verses)
and im just gonna say it now, to get it off my chest......anyone who has seen TBS recently, lazarra is totally trying to pull a newsham...tsk tsk

How can you not love the stuff John has done with Straylight Run? The music is different but it's still brilliant.

I was one of the only people who hated this record in the streaming thread. Now I am apparently one of the only people who ended up loving the album. First listen-all the songs had the same order and dynamics, were boring and so unlike TBS that I hated them. After about 20 listens, the album is a rocker (divine intervention sucks though, I still don't understand that song at all). So what, Tell All Your Friends is my favorite album too guys, just forget about that and look at this album from the new lineup point of view. It sounds great production wise with the exception of the drum sounds (I hate the crash in some of the songs) and the vocals are back to being passionate. The songs are original and catchy after a few listens which means this album will just continue to grow on me. And what is with everyone hating the 20/20 chorus? Its the harmonies in the verses that sound butt-rock to me. But it grew on me and I love that song esp. the intro. Like Thrice (but not nearly with the same level of awesomeness) these guys changed it up a bit and focused on songwriting and not order and outros. What I first thought was an awful thing turned out to be great. As a straight-forward rock album, I'll be jamming this all summer and probably next. Good work TBS, you will be huge.

okay first: GET OVER IT, TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS WAS AWESOME, BUT IT'S A COMPLETELY NEW BAND!!!!!!!!! Quit the comparisons already.
Secondly: I've loved them since before TAYF and still do, they continuously mature and their music has definitely grown and become better as this band has played together longer. I agree that WYWTB wasn't a thriller, but remember, it's tough to write a perfect album when being together in such a short time. LOUDER NOW definitely proves how they have all gelled together and play off each other so well. and if you people know ANYTHING about TBS, then you know their point in making this album was to capture the energy they have in their live show. They said this from the beginning! Obviously, from tracks like Liar, Up Against, Spin, Error Operator, etc., these songs will get you fired up in concert, being their main objective.
Therefore, everyone who says they are disappointed, or hates the album...shut it. you dislike the album because you EXPECTED to dislike the album. all you will ever do is compare it to TAYF. new band, new music people. WHy dont you compare John Nolan to TAYF? you don't complain about his little girl music he plays now?? Adam and company still make music with fire, passionic lyrics, and energy. John Nolan completely changed. Criticize him, not TBS, they at least stuck to their roots.

honestly. this record is incredible. did you ever expect to hear a guitar solo in a taking back sunday song? fred took this band to a whole new level musically i think. not every song on the new cd follows the usual taking back sunday dynamics and order. there are a couple that mix it up. only about 2 or 3 songs on the cd are sub par and the repetitive chourses get old. adam does a lot of experimentation on the new record with his voice and i love it. i think it's great and they deserve to sell that many records.

I think its really, really good. Its a super good simple rock record and I think Fred has really turned himself into a singer now, as to where he seemed to scream a lot during Where You Want To Be. I also think the band finally settled into their spots individually on thsi record. I like all of the records because they all have great songs, sure every record has a few songs that I would totally like to throw away and wonder what they were thinking when they recorded it. The only thing Im pretty pissed about right now is that they havent announced any dates in my city at all on any tour of theirs yet, its annoying...

I dont like the majority of the songs. I really only like MakeDamnSure, Error Operator, and Up Against(Blackout). There the only songs on there that sound like they were actually caring about writing how they wanted to. The rest of the cd sounds like there trying to drag this band out just because the name is going to sell. I had really high hopes for this cd but I have been let down. That being said its still 20 times better than WYWTB. I really hate that cd!!!!

well said. honestly can anyone argue that Error Operator is a good song? it blows. how many times can u repeat the same phrase in one song? Also to all the people saying stop comparing it to TAYF, fuck off. While its not the same lineup its the same band, they kept the TBS name and everything that came with it, including TAYF. In fact i hate people who say you cant compare ______ to ______ in general. people are comparing tbs to std and thursday. who cares if its a different lineup, different band, different genre, you can still compare them. If I said what's better, Louder Now or Lunchables Pizza you should be able to give me an answer. Lastly, i urge everyone here to immediately go and listen to TAYF all the way through. Its amazing. Every song comes on and i recognize it within the first few notes. Its one of those albums where, when every song comes on you go "oh yes, ______ and get excited to hear it."
Oh yeah and the only genius in music today is Max Bemis.

wrong. it's the second worst STD record right in front of In Reverie, which it's barely better than. the new TBS is a lot better than WYWTB, but not nearly as good as TAYF. whatever. the new Thursday is by far their worst record. the new Atreyu is by far their worst record. the new New Amsterdams is really boring and unimaginative. Margot and the Nuclear So and So's suck. Wolfmother sucks. Aiden sucks. Hawthorne Heights sucks. Panic! at the Outhouse sucks. honestly, the best record anyone has put out this year is easily the new Ghostface Killah. the album is exactly what hip-hop needs right now and epitomizes what it takes to perfect your craft. nothing else from 2006 even comes close to it yet. the only other records i'm even inclined to say are "a step in the right direction" and above average are the new Moneen, the new Appleseed Cast, the new Eagles of Death Metal (realistically, it's just a lot of fun to listen to), and the new Flaming Lips (but it still doesn't even come close to 4 or 5 of their other records). this "scene" needs to quit accepting mediocre bullshit as "genius" and start looking elsewhere for musicians that are actually doing something worthy of praise with their talents. maybe then all the bands that built the "scene" will wake up and start doing what they're good at instead of trying to "grow" and do shit they're not good at because they think it will actually mean something to people. Thursday, please take the dicks out of your mouths, eliminate the excessively trite choir from your songs, and replace it with the screaming that would actually fit the build-ups in your songs. there's no point in bringing an entire song to a head with a huge build-up, and then destroying everything you worked to create by toning it back down immediately and having a choir sing with you. yes, screaming is overdone by post-hardcore type bands, but guess what, it's what you're best at. and fuck, you helped start it. i believe the saying goes: "you gotta dance with what brung ya." maybe, if we're lucky, Brand New will put out a record that is actually better than anything they've done. chances are, however, we'll have to rely on Unearth and Poison The Well to be the only bands that do something better than what they put out last time. and maybe, just maybe, those fuckers in Shai Hulud band will get a record out before the end of the year and they can blow everyone else away.

Hi.
I think LN is great. I thought WYWTB was great as well. And I still think TAYF is a great album.
However now.
I hated WYWTB when it first came out..... with a passion of a thousand suns. But it grew on me. I didn't have to do that with LN........ the songs just seem to work so well together, and have a definte sense of continuity that I felt was lacking in earlier albums. Whether the intro with Ghost, to Liar, to the "inevitable single", and so on and so forth..... I think TBS put together a really strong album.
It would have been stronger with Brookyln of course, but its good to have us wanting a bit more, especially with Asleep coming out soon.
Anyone who wants to hate, try writing your own songs or forming a band that doesn't look like any other gimmicky emo band out there.
I dare you.

Yeah, if you make sense of this go ahead and let me know. I'd love to see what, if any sense was going on in that.
As for the TBS album....I love it. I still think STD's Sound the Alarm is still my favorite album of 2006 but this one is pretty good. I cannot for the life of me rip "What's it Feel Like to be a Ghost" or "Liar(Takes one to know one)" out of my head.
Will it stay my favorite album of 06? Doubt it. Will it be in my top 10 of 2006? Probably.

This album seriously has been one that I've been unable to put away since I've gotten a hold of it and nothing I've heard this year has clicked with me as much. Now granted, I've only gotten my hands on a handful of albums this year because my cash flow is dwindling due to life, I think I've heard roughly seven albums this year and this is my favorite!
I think the new Saves is horrendous, Chris Conley's vocals on that album are absolutely annoying and I just don't feel the heart on that album. I think they made an album attempting to sound like Through Being Cool, just to sound like it, and couldn't even come close to the feeling behind that record. And don't think of me as someone who holds TBC up on a pedistal, as I like Stay What You Are better.
The new Thursday, I haven't given a due amount of listens and I owe them more then that, so I won't say too much about it. I will say that this is the first Thursday album to come out that hasn't immediately caught my attention and used me like a street hooker. Either way, I feel like this is Thursday's weakest release, but leave my doors open to moving it up if it catches my ear when I give it a few more listens.
There are many people, who say that the lyrics on this album make no sense or ramble. I think the lyrics on this album are absolutely amazing, IMO deciphering Adam is one of the best parts of TBS and once I do, I always find myself understanding exactly what he's talking about.
Well, either way to each their own. I've given up trying to convince people about TBS and let their music stand for itself and, sure enough, the people that said it was horrible came to me a week later and said they loved it.
Also, to whoever said they thought Miami was My Amy... I think that was his way of kind of hiding it, at least that's something I realized yesterday after reading the article in AP.
that's whoa

selling 156,190 units.
Is that even good? I know it's a ton of records, but didn't they sell over 160,000 the first week of WYWTB? If they sell more first week when they were on Victory, and then the move to a major and sell less... kinda makes you think how good that number really is.

WYWTB had "one last slowdance," other than that, that record sucked...but i havent been able to find anything thats as good as that song on Louder Now.

I like the new album. No people. Its not as good as TAYF. Nothing is gonna compare to that. Its rare for a record to hit like that where every song is good. WYWTB was a good album. LN is better. Im not gonna sit here and hate on the new TBS just because it cant compare to the old.

seriously people need to get the fuck over the whole "tell all your friends" and "full collapse" thing. no band wants to make the same cd twice. thursday's case is different because they actually surpassed both their albums but i don't know if taking back sunday ever will. they're not the same band as "tell all your friends". bands grow up and progress. it's that simple. they're call new albums not same albums.
I agree, but Thursday did not even come close to surpassing "Full Collapse"

Excuse me if this sounds like a personal attack (thats not what its intended to be, but i often find myself wording things wrong and peolple take it the wrong way)
Can you not hear the guitars on the new album? They focus more on the guitar in many songs such as Error Operator and, expessially, Spin. They did do something a bit new on this album. I dont know what much else you could ask for or expect change wise. Would you like them to make a change like Thrice did? If you ask me they have matured a bit.. some of the chorus's (Twenty Twenty Surgery / Miami) arent exactly m y favorites but the rest of the songs are amazing.
Adams voice sounds great. The guitars are improved. The lyrics are iffy at times but overall i think its a solid album.
Whether they change too much or dont change enough, no one is ever happy :P.
i do think Spin is a great song. That's more of the direction that i would like to see them in. I wasnt really commenting as much on the instruments as i was with song structure. every song is structured almost the same, and the formula is just getting old. i think the CD is good, but it isnt anything new or exciting.

pretty catchy but unoriginal and repetitive. good to see it's doing well though

i like it...it seems like they are finally figuring out what their sound should be and are more comfortable.
tell all your friends > louder now > where you want to be.
