Not too interested in Pistolita (Despite that SD is their hometown..), and Slow Runner (who actually sounded okay....). Pistolita is alright, but I don't know...their drummer just sounded terrible this night.

You know that feeling when a bass line hits you? Not only can you hear it, you can feel it?
The members of Say Anything were setting up, and Alex Kent was doing a soundcheck on his bass.
This bass hit me right in my colon.
Yes, my colon. I'm sure of it.
Me and my colon are like this.

Coby Lindor, Parker Case (Of Jamison Parker), and another guitarist (I'm not sure who...) came out, and began warming up.
Max Bemis, mastermind behind Say Anything, came out.
Say Anything opened up with "Wow, I Can Get Sexual", to get the crowd heated.

I can't really remember what order they played their songs in, but here's the basic set list, with maybe a few rearranged here and there:

Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too
Belt
Alive With the Glory of Love
The Futile
Slowly, Through a Vector
Spidersong
Yellow Cat / Red Cat
Little Girls
Woe
Every Man Has a Molly
The Writhing South
Chia-Like, I Shall Grow
I Want to Know Your Plans
Admit It!!!
Encore: (Max, solo on guitar) Walk Through Hell

It was pretty crazy. Epicentre is a small venue, and it has low overhanging celing rafters. So that makes for alot of interesting crowd surfing. One guy was simply insane during the whole show, and I can never really decided if he liked or hated SA....or if I liked or hated this guy.
He was pretty much the loudest guy in the crowd, hands down.
During songs and in between songs.
And Max has a mic.

It was pretty funny, though, when during one song, he grabbed onto a rafter while crowd surfing, and attempted to get the crowd pumped from his "throne". He then proceeded to jump down from there, and I'm pretty the crowd hesitated as to whether or not to catch him. I know I did. He also lost his shoe at this point, and kept yelling for them to give it back; Apparently someone had thrown it onstage. Classic. It was a little after this that a fight broke and some guy started beating on him. That was hilarious.

Anyway, back to Say Anything. There was alot of amazing energy. Max knows how to work the crowd, for sure, with lines like this: "I had heard the East Coast was crazy, but you guys here in San Diego outdo them." (Something like that.)
The band did not disappoint, in the least. Coby was freaking amazing. He was pounding those drums like there was no tommorow. Max commented on it, as well, something along the lines of "This is the hardest I've ever heard Coby hit the drums, you guys."

Every song captured the energy on the CD.
I was suprised to hear "Slowly, Through A Vector". I had heard they didn't play that song live.

The set "closer" - "Admit It" - definitely was chock full of irony. Here you could see every person in the crowd yelling the words with Max. Half of these kids were self proclaimed "scenesters". One girl, I recognized from high school as the blonde, pretty, stuck-up cheerleader a few years behind me. At that time, I vaguely remember her touting Hilary Duff as her favorite artist after school with her twin sister. I graduated the school right as the whole "punk is cool" thing hit. Here she was, dressed eye-liner, piercings, pink and black stockings, and vintage clothing - head to toe, walking as if this was how she had always dressed. That pretty much sums up at least half of the crowd, as well.
I wonder if they ever stopped to think about the lyrics in the songs they sang, before commiting it to their high school notebooks.

Anyway, all in all, an amazing show. I'll definitely catch Say Anything next time they come around.

okay...?
I believe that's what I was inferring...by "Max knows how to work the crowd"
It's what bands do.

"____Insert current city here___ is the greatest city ever!"
Every single band does that.

So what?
Good show.

Ah, referring to the massive amount of hype generated by AP on their album?
Fair enough.

Still think their music is fun.

Still think their music is fun. nah, not really. i listened to the cd and i actually liked it. it was a good cd, but it wasn't like life changing. on that note, i hate how everyone is like "omfg, say anything are so awesome! i'm gonna go get 'chia-like shall i grow' tattooed on my arm!" (based on a true story) it disgusts me.

Haha. Well, upon hearing that, it's totally understandable. That's a pretty ridiculous true story.

I don't think it's a life changing record, either, but certainly alot more insightful than most music.

EDIT: That story really ruins that song for me. That's my second favorite from the record...

Upset you? How so?

PS - Punching her in the face is a much better alternative than vomit.

Yeah, I don't know, I didn't find the re-release to be that appealing. I find "Little Girls" funny, though.
Try blasting it in your car while going through residential streets.

I suppose the allure was a bit ruined when I found the VS Aids demos a few years back, though.
