This is one of the worst ideas ever. I know they don't want to acknowledge it as an accomplishment or anything, but at least authenticate the ball because you know that it's a valuable commodity. Don't make sit through stories of legal battles of who caught the ball and make things ugly. It's so simple to just authenticate the stupid thing.

They are trying to prove a point. I don't mind it. It's not a record.

That's a good idea. Seriously, if I caught 715..I would give the ball to Barry. What am I going to do with it? I can't seel it because I can't prove it's real. Plus I know Barry would give me autographed shit for it...or some steroids, either way it'd be cool.

It's not a record obviously, I don't have a problem with them not celebrating it...but just authenticate the stupid ball and save us the lawsuit.

I'd like to think that's what I'd do too.

this is gay...he has never been proven of doing anything illegal and they aren't acknowledging his records. shouldn't they prove that he did in fact do illegal steroids before they do this shit. lame.

715 is not a record..it's just 2nd all time. That's like saying Kobe should be praised for scoring 81 in an NBA game. He really doesn't have to be, that's second best..100 is still the record.

ebay is going to have 20 different #715 balls

But people would still spend thousands of dollars on the ball that Kobe scored 81 with. By the MLB, not authenticating the ball, theyre could be multiple fakes of it and then people would be getting ripped off.

Even though I just said what I said above, I think it was a smart move. In ten years when Pujols passes Ruth, and someone tries to sell the Bonds 715, it will be worth nothing, because there's no MLB proof if it is real. Baseball has decided that it isn't worth acknowledging that the ball is special, therefore no one can make a profit off of it. Now people who collect baseballs will know that they shouldn't spend money for Bonds 715, becuase the can't prove the validity of the ball. So basically it isn't worth their investment.

I can see your point, but passing the Babe is a record in my book.

Regardless of whether it's a record or not, it's a special ball that people are going to want. Save people the trouble and put an authenticator on it.

Maybe if you're a racist. Not a shot at you at all, more at Bonds.

huh, I don't see how passing the Babe could be considered racist in any context.

"Babe Ruth is symbolic of baseball," Bonds said. "If there is a record you want to go after, it's Babe Ruth. Because Babe Ruth is Mr. Baseball, right? ... He's considered the greatest baseball player, and if you want to compare yourself, you want to compare yourself to the greatest player."

On Monday, Bonds said: "Willie's number is always the one that I've strived for. And if it does happen, the only number I care about is Babe Ruth's.
"Because as a left-handed hitter, I wiped him out. That's it"

He's a jerk.

huh, I am not seeing those comments being worthy of a "jerk" remark. he wants to pass Babe, name one player in baseball who wouldn't want to.

It had racial undertones. If you heard him say it you would hear it in his voice. The fact he wants to pass Ruth and "wipe him out" is not appreciative.

It was said a while ago and it was definitely an issue. He was talking about how Ruth is the standard even though Aaron (African-American) has the record. Thats where the quote came from. Read this.

Babe Ruth was a great player, but he wasn't black. I'm black, and it's tougher for blacks" -Bonds

Who does he think he is, Jackie Robinson? It's not 1945 and its not tougher for blacks in professional baseball anymore. I mean if you cant see the racial undertones in some of those comments then I feel sorry for you.

sorry, 715 is not the record. thus, no cause for celebration. did anyone celebrate hank aaron when he hit 661 to pass willie mays?

then why did people celebrate Kobe having 81 points in a game? its not a record...why celebrate when a guy hits 500 HR's, its not a record. why celebrate when a guy hits 700 HR's, it's not a record. why celebrate when someone has 3000 hits, its not a record. would they celebrate if someone broke a .400 BA even if it wasn't a record?

i'm talking game stopping celebrations. like the one he got when he passed mays. that i can tolorate because of the family ties. i'm not talking about there being lot of hoopla, more in terms of ceremonies and such. you know?

700 home runs, 3000 hits, they are all plateaus and clubs that is why. Alot of these celebrations are done by the home team too, not by the league.
