Propagandhi recently to hit the studio to record two new tracks and are promising their release shortly. Bassist Todd Kowalski posted a lengthy journal entry and said:
[We] are going to be whipping up a thrashing frenzy and laying it down in solid form for you to listen to in the very near future. Two tunes.
Color me excited.

Chris wants YOU to vote for him as "The Worst Canadian in Canadian History (http://www.thebeaver.ca/bea.asp?subsection=ext&page=WC)".
Hello balls, Chris here.
I just heard on CBC Radio that Canada’s prestigious history magazine The Beaver (not to be confused with our very own prestigious walking history magazine The Beaver) is hosting a contest to decide who is Canada’s Worst Canadian.
We once asked you to vote for us to win a song-writing prize and we won it.
We once asked you to vote Kowalski the world’s sexiest vegetarian and he almost won it.
Now i’m asking you to vote me — Chris Hannah of Propagandhi — the Worst Canadian. It is the one thing in life that I actually pride myself on.
I don’t stand during Oh Canada, I don’t support Canadian troops, i cheer for Sweden in international hockey tournaments, I hate Wayne Gretzky, I side with First Nations against the Canadian state, I fantasize out loud of the decimation of the Canadian animal exploitation industry and I wish Great Big Sea would die horrible, languishing deaths in a capsized ferry incident. The proof is in my pudding my fellow shitizens. I am THE worst Canadian and you know it.
Please, do the right thing. Vote for me as The Worst Canadian in Canadian history. It’s the only patriotic thing to do.
Haha, I love these guys.

Worst Canadian Update:
Hello dedicated supporters! I just received word from an amused number cruncher at the Worst Canadian competiton that, thanks to your votes, i am currently ahead of both Stephen Harper and Celine Dion as said Worst Canadian! In a revealing and suprising turn of events, i am somehow behind Dr. Henry Morgentaler. At least I am in good company as regards the Doctor. Keep voting for me peeps!
Haha, that'd be really cool if he wins.

Sad news from the road (http://www.timesdispatch.com/cva/ric/news.apx.-content-articles-RTD-2007-06-04-0207.html)
We got home safely from an otherwise awesome trip through the midwestern states to learn the terrible news that some peeps who made a road trip from Virginia to come rock with us in Kentucky did not make it home. Cayce Castelow, Benjamin Hutson and Joseph Amoury were killed in a car accident on their way back to VA. If these were the same Virginians i spoke to after we played, i can tell you they rocked hard and seemed like pretty rad young muthas. I can only imagine that their friends and families are devastated by the news. Our sincere condolences to all y’all. Peace.
That sucks.

WORLD REFUGEE DAY JUNE 20TH (from Jesus H. Chris on June 8th, 2007) (from Propagandhi website)
From our man Bill at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church here in Winnipeg, where the Raza family continues to seek sanctuary from deportation back to Pakistan where they face persecution:
Wednesday, June 20th is World Refugee Day. A rally is planned for 7:30 that evening at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church (corner of Wardlaw & Nassau in Osborne Village). The purpose is to show support to the family and to remind the Government of Canada that their claim for refugee status here in Canada has wide support.
It is a “rally” not a fundraiser and is open to all who want to show support. Some prominent community leaders will bring brief messages of support and several artists have offered their talents to entertain. Confirmed artists include Shawna Dempsey, Cara Luft, Nathan Rogers, & Jeff Preslaff. Bringing messages of support from the wider community are Joyce Milgaard, Marty Dolin, Jennifer Howard, David Ball and others.
The family is in their 10th month living in sanctuary and still awaiting word from the Government of Canada on their Humanitarian & Compassionate application. There is room for more than 700 - please come and get the word out so that others can come too. We want to send a strong message that people care.

A Little Summer Update:
So, What’s new since I last talked to you?
I mean in your life not mine. Eh!
We’re hard at it over here, choosing to use summer as our musical fiesta! So when we’re not trying to find ways to sneak off to various beaches we are hard at work on the tunes. It’s very, hot here right now which reminds me today that soon we will be in Beautiful South America. The dates and plans are being set as I type so if anyone has anything to say speak now or forever hold your piece. haha…
Our friend, Analia, has made this webpage for Argentina (http://www.propagandhi.com.ar/)
Our Friend, Erica, has made this website for Brazil (http://www.propagandhi.com.br/)
And our good buddy, Cesar, has made this site for South America (http://www.myspace.com/propagandhisa)
Keep in mind that we have NO Myspace page of our own. All the ones put up are by people who listen to the band. So when some of them claim to be us talking it’s not. Cesar is the most official one, as you can see by the link to Razor, and Sacrifice. Haha.. If you want to email the band do it here on our page, not to peoples’ Myspace pages, unless it’s Cesars page. We appreciate anyone putting up a page for us, it’s just not us, that’s all.
Take care, everybody, enjoy the summer!
Sweet.

Chris places second in Worst Canadian in History:
In what I allege to be a complete and utter mockery of the democratic process, The Beaver magazine has proclaimed former Canadian Prime Minister (and current dead guy) Pierre Elliot Trudeau the Worst Canadian In History (http://www.historysociety.ca/bea.asp?subsection=ext&page=WC). They contend that Trudeau narrowly edged me out by a few hundred votes. Excuse my French, but…
AS IF.
It is now apparent that a concerted and forceful program of fraud and abuse was enacted with either the leadership or cooperation of the Beaver Editorial Staff.
As a concerned citizen, a poor sport and of course as the true worst Canadian, I ask that you do everything diplomatically possible to have Beaver Magazine arrange for an honest RECOUNT in the presence of international observers.
Thank you.

I thought the news about the re-press was funny. Especially Chris's comment.
We’re really sorry about the new NOFX live LP being delayed so we decided to put it on sale along with the next installment of the Fat Classic colored vinyl series, Propagandhi’s How To Clean Everything, on conflict-free gold vinyl! I don’t even want to hear your sorry excuse for not being signed up for the Fat newsletter to get exclusive comments like this from Prop singer, Chris Hannah, about this classic Fat release:
“The best thing about this record was seeing Wayne Gretzky at the airport. Other than that it is notable only in that sales from this record paid for the security walls we put up around our mansions.”
lolol

I'm really upset because someone accidently(or did they? :P) broke my Where Quantity is Job 1 cd. Their newest one doesnt impress me at all, theyve definitely gone down a more heavy/slightly chugga hardcore path.

no way. Potemkin is up their with Today's Empires for me. It rocks hard as shit, it just takes a few listens to get full appreciation for it.

I'm not a huge fan of Potemkin, but chugga hardcore is definitely not a term I would use to describe that album, nor any of their stuff.
I would, including most people I know- who are unsupportive or supportive of it .
I agree, I wouldn't describe the rest of their stuff like that. Anyone who compares the sound of their latest album with the first two hasn't been paying attention.
RyanDamage
12/10/07, 06:12 PM
But none of their stuff is repetitive, low, rolling guitar stuff. Which is essentially what chugga chugga is attempting to describe.
I don't know, I'd like to know what bands you would compare them to that you would also consider to be said type of hardcore. I think they have stuck pretty true to their progressive thrash roots.
RyanDamage
12/10/07, 06:40 PM
It's not replicated. It wouldn't be progressive if it were. I've aways thought that to be one of the best things about them as a band. Every album is a new step, but it seems always down the same road.
I can't think of any other bands that sound like the track A Speculative Fiction off of Potemkin City Limits.

Update! Yay.
When me and Jordy were growing up in Portage la Prairie, “hanging a rat” meant you showed someone (who did not want to see it) your wiener. It happened a lot in post-game change-rooms in hockey arenas where a young naked fellow might decide to climb up on the bench behind a guy who was talking to someone else and put his wiener as close to the back of the other guy’s head as possible without actually touching it, whereupon the young naked fellow would call that other person’s attention, thereby “hanging a rat” right in his face. It was hilarious. Of course, it is considered a sexual offense these days, so i frown on this sort of behavior in my maturity.
Anyways, welcome to the Chinese Year of the Rat! This is the first year in history that we are going to actually try to plan our year out rather than just do things randomly (don’t worry, we have adults helping us). So our tentative schedule so far includes: going to Japan in spring*, perhaps going to Scandinavia in summer* and finally, recording a new record in September!*
So stayed tuned freaks! We are on the loose!
*unless we get colds

If any of you know the song, “Mate Ka Moris Unkun Rasik An” off of our, “Todays Empires..” record then you may be interested in this article written for the Ottawa Citizen by Propagandhi listener Tim Shufelt. He has done an updated interview with Bella Galhos who was the inspiration and protagonist of the song. Check it out!
Tim said it was the song that gave him the idea to write the article. As I said to him, What more could we ask for then to have one of our little tunes be the catalyst to get someone interested in an idea or situation and have them use their talents to spread the word? Way to go Tim!
Tim, Tim, Tim!! haha..

Recent update a few days ago:
Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.
Hey McFly, if you’re coming out to the legal-defence fundraiser for the Tyendinaga defendants at the Albert this friday here in Winnipeg, you might want to dig through that dusty milk-crate in the basement and brush up on your “Fuck the Scene” and “Martial Law” hand-dubbed cassettes, cuz there’s gonna be some tuneage that hasn’t seen the stage since the last time we played the Albert in 1992. It will be a clown-fest. And while you’re down there you may also want to make sure your old Cooper SK3000 (with the full-cage Itech) is in good working order cuz there’s some new stuff coming down the pipe this friday that will make you feel like Eric Lindros sprawled out in the neutral zone after a career-ending Scott Stevens open-ice hit.
There will also apparently be a chicken-fight.
A report on our trip to Japan last week coming soon!

Show review from Japan (http://www.punknews.org/review/7236)
Set list looks so fucking awesome. And they played a new song there that the reviewer forgot to list and/or mention. Said it sounded like a Potemkin City Limits thing.
Coolzzzz.

Kirbie is stoked!
Kinda sounds like the song "Today's Empires" in a Potemkin City Limits kinda way. It rocks my socks.

New update/movie review:
I have seen some terrible movies in my time. Independence Day, Armageddon, Titanic, The Departed…the list goes on. But tonight, in a bout of insomnia, i managed to watch 1 hour, 11 minutes and 58 seconds of what has to be the all-time King of all terrible, useless, obnoxious, stupid, insipid, horrid, putrid, fetid, utter shit movies: Transformers. Don’t ask me why i even tried. Just don’t. It’s not important. All i know is that my eyes actually smell like shit right now thanks to this visual bus-station toilet called a movie. I have in the past jokingly implied that violence should be visited upon those who have enjoyed such sad films. The joke is over. I hereby truly encourage people to hunt down every single person involved in the making of the Transformers movie (and their extended family members — including children and grandparents) and actually kill them. Literally. If you yourself enjoyed this movie (or were merely ambivalent about it), please consider killing yourself by nail-gunning your own eviscera to your own stupid face while sitting naked on a pail of bees you idiot.
Thank you for reading my movie review.

That benefit show they did recently sounded pretty cool. Would've been pretty rad to see 'em play their really really old material. Damn.
