I'm working on finalizing the Sherwood (http://www.absolutepunk.net/sherwood) EP page as we speak. Listening to these songs makes me extremely excited ... labels should listen closely because this would be the first band I'd sign given the chance.

Because I'd rather have a band signed and making a living doing what they love then care if I'm the only one listening to them.
The pages are ready, but I don't have a tracklisting or all the information from the band yet about what they want on there.

They'll be MP3s, so yes? 320 KBPS MP3s - right click, save as and it's all yours. I'll include a zip file of all 5 songs as well for those that want to download one file. Uhm .. yeah, that's all I can think of ...

That's what I said. "Airplane is a Ribbon" screams "second single" that everyone will be loving and having in your head for years.
Being able to release this EP will go down as one of the greatest things I've been a part of in my life. I feel incredibly blessed and lucky to be a part of this ...
Imagine someone like Island or Virgin signing this band and putting some money behind them. They could be the next sensation ...

Expectations should be high. It's damn good ... I'm not saying it's the best thing since sliced bread, just saying I'd sign the band and make a million bucks when they blow up. Hahaa. What do you want, me not to get excited about the single biggest thing AP.net has ever done?

Jason if you are that excited, then you have my attention and every member of your page. I am just saying the first single is just okay. I agree that you should be thinking about the label idea. If this label is signed after your exclusive, then you have took this site to the next level. But if the rest of the album is mediocre, then your credibiltiy might be squashed.

Haha... it's not mediocre. I'm not worried in the slightest. It's better then 99% of the radio, and 85% of what other labels are putting out these days. Hey, just my opinion, but I don't stand behind anything I think is "mediocre" - if I love it, that's what matters.

Yeah, it's hard to not like them. I mean, it's pop music, but there's nothing about them that can make you go, "ahh.. total assholes - they suck." It's just too perfect for summer.

These guys do pop music the way it should be done, and when done well, pop music is great. Perfect for summer and any other season, really. They can get you through the cold months just as well as they can complement the warm months.

The problem with this band so far has been that their name is so incredibly retarded that I am thinking that no one in the world who would ever agree to be in a band with that stupid of a name will ever write any piece of music or any lyric that would ever interest me.
Seriously. Why not just name your band Koho, or Easton?
zzz.
Edit: wait, I am listening now and holy shit these dudes are a snore fest. Their name fits them perfectly... bland, unoriginal, and evoking absolutely zero emotion.
I'd have to think this band pays for the hype they get here becaues no one else is talking about these guys and it's easy to see why.

Wait, you judge a band based completely on their name, before hearing anything? That's the most retarded thing I think I have ever heard come out of someone's mouth on this website. Might as well never listen to Jimmy Eat World or Thursday (just a name of the week right?). Hell, and fuck The Clash or The Smiths or Mineral too! Because, those names are just too generic and "retarded" and not worth any sort of listening. And what's with those Jawbreaker and Bad Brains bands? I should just write them off completely.
zzz.

So, now you listened to one song and made your judgement (because I didn't expect that one)! You sure are a cool guy. Seriously, you're fucking awesome.
To address you're other "issue." First, they didn't pay me a dime for the features we are running on the website for them. Second, it's not "hype" for anything - it's a free CD. I think to "hype" something up there has to be some sort of monitary reward in the end for the "hyped." As for "no one else talking about them" - then you're missing the posts I've seen on every single webzine (including PN.org and Alt.Press).
You are officially the first person to say something so incredibly negative about them though (there was a thread in the general forum today about this fact). But, hey, might as well be a fucking prick to a band that's giving away their music for free. I mean, shit, if someone doesn't make the obligatory asshole role: who will!? Right? Right!?!?
Get over yourself. Seriously. Is your life that horrible that you HAD to come into THIS thread and make a post tonight? That's just fucking sad.
I laugh when people use the cliche "unoriginal" or "no emotion" lines when describing music they don't like. They act as if every single band they listen to is original, and as though every single band in the world is striving to make some kind of music that NO one has ever made before. Sometime's it's just about having fun, making good pop, having a few drinks with some friends, and making music you love. For me, that's what music is all about. And to me, driving with my windows down on a sunny day or sitting in my room playing air-guitar -- show me that there's emotion in the songs. If you don't like it - fine, that's grand, but to be a dick and talk out of your ass for no reason at all: THAT'S JUST NOT RIGHT.
I typed too much. Sorry. What I really meant to say was: eat a bag of dicks. Thanks.

sherwood are AWSOME! "The Only One" is a good song. i'm not saying it is their best but i like it. they are great musicians who write good music. i can't wait to hear the rest...2 days!
people should really give them a listen. they'll like them. i may take a second listen but they are good. people shouldn't judge them on their name, one song or anything. listen to their music, it might change your mind.
they are just a GREAT band and that's all that matters!

not to be a dick, but I don't understand why this is such a huge deal. Granted, giving away an exclusive EP is pretty cool, but I remember you guys mentioning the free Forgive Durden EP awhile back that was through Purevolume, but that didn't seem like a big deal at all...

Sherwood is turning away offers from big labels to release a free EP to their fans via absolutepunk. I'd say that's a pretty huge deal. They could sign to a lot of places but they're doing this instead...and these are really high caliber songs. That's why.

Because it's the closest thing we've been able to do like a Record Label. And it will see how big we actually are, and if we have the resources to actually really help a band get 10K or more copies of their EP out there. I think we have a chance to do something special. Plus, I never started a label because I will only do that if I think I have the money/resources to give bands 100% of what they deserver, and this is a step to see if we can.
Plus, the band spent a lot of money recording these - just for us to release. So this is a big deal - it's the future of what music can be. No label, no A&R, nothing but passion, music, and the internet.

Seriously dude. This is the musical equivalent of water.
As far as their EP being "free", what does that matter? It's part of a scheme to promote the band so in the future they can, you know, charge for things like other records, shows, and merch.
However, at least they got the price right this time around.

oh ok, thanks for the clarification. I was previously under the impression this was something that was just going to be pre-released here online, but later normally distributed through their label (I didn't know they weren't already signed), but now I know. I'll be sure to get it tomorrow. Thanks!

there are other places to read news on the internet. If you find the people that run this site and the bands that are covered here so annoying, why do you come here? why do you take the time to post in the forums? I have never understood why people do that? If you dont like something, why not just skip over it? It seems like alot of trouble to go to just to complain. but to each their own I guess.
Also, Im not a big poster in the forums, and I occasionlly comment on the news, but this is where I have come for my music new for years now. The staff does a great job. I think all of us are at some degree jealous of what Jason has accomplished. I say keep up the good work.
