You know how we do this. Check in as staff add their recs for this week and tell us what you're listening to in the replies or make a thread in the recommendations forum (http://absolutepunk.net/forumdisplay.php?f=115). Jason Tate: The Format (my favorite album so far this year), Butch Walker (the quintessential summer album) and Sherwood (my pride and joy).
Gabe: This Providence (http://absolutepunk.net/artists/showlink.php?do=showdetails&l=2557&catid=searchresults&searchid=243047), just what i needed this week.
Scott: Saves the Day (http://www.savestheday.com), Forgive Durden (http://www.forgivedurden.com), the new Fair (http://www.myspace.com/fair) record, and Sherwood (http://www.absolutepunk.net/sherwood)'s The Summer EP.
Darren: A little Josh Ritter (http://www.joshritter.com) never hurt anyone. "Good Man" is one of the best songs of the year so far.
Drew: Summer vacation! (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?p=3268167#post326816 7)
Garett: Limbeck (http://www.purevolume.com/limbeck)... 100% perfect for this warm weather
Ryan: Showoff (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showoff)
Greg: Just Controlling the Famous (http://www.controllingthefamous.com/) today.

Margot & The Nuclear So and So's: The Dust of Retreat
Ridiculous name, great album. It's quickly climbing my personal 2006 charts. I've read references to: The Decemberists, Okkervil River, Bright Eyes, Neutral Milk Hotel, Broken Social Scene, etc.

Nickel Creek: Nickel Creek
I had the opportunity to watch Chris Thile as part of the "New York City Bluegrass All-Stars" today at my school and it was absolutely incredible. For all those who think Nickel Creek is a bit too "clean" for their tastes would have loved this show. I couldn't have been more pleased with how they turned out. Since I can't recommend anything by them since it was just a couple of friends coming together to play some incredible music, I'll recommend the first album by Nickel Creek since it was one of my favorite songs, "The Lighthouse's Tale".

Books:

Jose Saramago: Seeing
I just ordered it tonight but I'm really excited to get a chance to read it. His last book, Blindness, is easily among my favorite books ever.

Movies:

Me and You and Everyone We Know
I watched this for the second time last night and it grew on me a lot. It's at the very least worth a rental.

thank you jason tate. i usually disagree with you about A LOT of stuff, but the fact that you classify albums by season makes me respect you a lot. i've had a lot of albums that remind me of certain times of the year, and i cannot wait for the new Butch Walker release now.

Pink Floyd- Animals

I recommend:

Music

Brandtson - Hello, Control - very different to their earlier stuff, but, at the same time, a very logical progression.
Sherwood - Sing, But Keep Going - I've been listening to this to get pumped for the new EP. Awesome band. Buy this album if you don't already have it.

Books

Going through a phase of Nordic mysteries, especially by writers like Henning Mankell, Karin Fossum, and Karin Alvtegan. These authors are making crime writing interesting again.

TV Shows

As always, Law and Order: Criminal Intent is #1 in my heart. More people should watch this show.

Not Recommended:

I haven't really been listening to anything new this week, so I am going to go back a little bit to pull out my Recs.

Race The Sun (http://www.myspace.com/racethesun) - They're writing for their new record right now and I am stoked about it, but in the mean time their old stuff has really been hitting the spot for me. I can't wait to catch them on tour with So They Say.
City & Colour (http://www.myspace.com/dallasgreen) - Everything Dallas touches turns to gold. This CD is one of the most amazing things I have heard in a long long time and I always find myself putting it on for another listen.
Hidden In Plain View (http://www.hiddeninplainview.com) - A friend of mine is taping them at Flipside this weekend and he reminded me of how much I love them and their live show. I can't wait for them to go on tour again.

I recommend everyone go back and listen to those bands that people told them they would like based on their musical preferences, but just couldn't get into at the time. It took me more than a few listens to finally get into The Early November, Motion City Soundtrack, Gatsbys American Dream, Northstar, Jimmy Eat World, Dredg, mewithoutYou, Something Corporate, Minus the Bear, Rilo Kiley, Modest Mouse, and Underoath (plus I'm sure there's some others), for example.

So, with that, I declare today "Give A Band A Second Chance Day". I'm sure you'll find something that you didn't "get" before but will at least like (if not love) now.

There's a band called goodbyetomorrow who spells their name as one word all lowercase. Is this the anti-hellogoodbye?
