View Full Version : Victor Zambrano, you never cease to amaze me
Broken Parachute

After yesterdays "Strikeout Andruw Jones and leave the ballpark" scenario, the Daily News said that Victor Zambrano tore a ligament in his elbow and will need Tommy John Surgery, sidelining him for the rest of this year.
The worst part is, he knew about his elbow injury for about a week..he told Pedro Martinez and Darren Oliver, but never told Willie Randolph or Omar Minaya. It was Sandy Alomar Sr. (bench coach) that alerted Willie Randolph. He told him that Victor was looking uncomfortable and there had to be something wrong. Willie asked Victor, and Zambrano told him he was fine and he could pitch. Well, obviously not.
Now this leaves 2 holes in our rotation. Bannister, Maine, and Zambrano all gone (Bannister should be back next month and Maine not too long after). This means we have to bring up Jose Lima to start for awhile and possibly Mike Pelfry.

wow. stupid move on his part. but honestly, i think a lot of pitchers would have done the same thing.

Yeah I actually do kind of feel bad. Pedro said that Zambrano was crying the whole day at the ballpark because he didn't know what to do. Pedro said that all the papers and stuff rip Zambrano to pieces and he gets real stressed out. I do feel bad, but when you're injured..you gotta tell someone like a doctor or a coacj so they can help you.

Neither would be giving up Lastings Milledge for Zito. Heilman should be back in the rotation soon enough.

Yeah, but at this point I think its the only option we have. Jorge Julio is starting to pitch a little bit better, and Duaner Sanchez has been strong. Chad Bradford and Pedro Feliciano have to step up though, along with Darren Oliver.
Oh yeah, and Wagner needs to stop putting guys on in scoring position in the bottom of the 9th.

say you take Heilman out of the bullpen, and he gets shelled in his starts as many predict he will be due to hitters becoming more familiar with him the 2nd and 3rd time around the lineup, mentally it will set him back once he goes back to the pen.
the last thing you need in the pen is someone with problems in the mind due to performance.
it wont be pelfrey, it wont be a trade that involes milledge either.

imo, heilman should have been in the rotation to start. pelfrey could be brought up, i think he may be ready.
lets face it though, the mets screwed themselves getting rid of benson and seo, regardless of them being mediocre, we couldn't be in such a bind.
im gonna say it, willie randolph may be the worst manager in the league. The mets are winning on talent alone, the guy makes horrible decisions. Heilman should have been in the starting rotation. Then a starter goes down, and instead of starting heliman he calls up john maine, he pitches average and gets hurt after one start, instead of starting heilman, he starts fucking jose lima. The guys era was like 7.00 last year and he started over 30 games! Put heilman in the rotation, hes chompin at the bit to get there. And don't tell me it will ruin the bullpen. Oliver is solid and sanchez has been rediculously good. Wagner will come around. Feliciano and bradford have been adequate. they need starters right now

damn omar minaya, if he wasnt a racist we would have a sick rotation with benson as our four starter and jae seo as our number five (he may be doing bad with the dodgers, but he was awesome with the mets last year). But minaya only wants to sign latino players so we had to get rid of a whitey and an asian.

I like you. Haha. Yes, Omar Minaya is racist..he basically supports latin players. Kris Benson SHOULD be our 3rd/4th starter. The Jae Seo deal turned out okay with Duaner Sanchez, but dealing Benson sucks. Julio was shakey to begin with..why did we need him? We had Bartolomo Fortunato who in my opinion is not as bad as people think he is..way better than Julio.
The only thing we can really do right now is put Darren Oliver in the rotation for 3 or 4 starts. He's a converted starter anyway, and Heilman needs to be in that bullen..he's a strong 6th/7th inning reliever.

im a little worried about bannister. I mean, he got wins but in his first few starts he wasnt great. In the end he prevented the other teams from scoring, but it seemed like every inning there were like 2 men on base for the other team. And now he's injured. Obviously martinez and glavine are solid. I've always LOVED trachsel as a number 3. He eats innings and he will keep you close. Give you 6-7 innings, let up 2-3 runs.
By the way, anybody from new york, do you feel that the local media is trying to justify the julio trade by constantly saying recently that julio is "coming around." He had one fucking save! And he let up a run in the 9th and let the tying man reach third base! How is that a good thing?!

Yes, the media seems like Julio has 5 saves in 6 chances or something. He's not "coming around." He had 1 save AND he gave up a run and let numerous guys on base. He was so lucky.

He's not racist, that's for sure. Just waving your nationality flag during negotiations with Latin players, doesn't make you racist. Plus, Anna Benson was a thorn in the side of the Mets, so they had to go. He shouldn't have been traded, though, he was a good 3 or 4 spot starter.

Look at everyone else he signed. Maybe it's not racist, but look at who he signs and brings up. We have one of the best infield prospects Jeff Keppinger who came up 2 seasons ago and did well in a few games..but he didn't play once this year. Omar Minaya suggested that Anderson Hernandez was the better choice at 2B until Kaz came back. Hernandez hit .135 during the month of April with like 2 RBI's and he wouldn't call Keppinger up. Look at every person Minaya has brought in or called up to the Major Leagues besides Nady, Bradford, and LoDuca:
Jorge Julio
Carlos Delgado
Carlos Beltran
Jose Lima
Ramon Castro
Anderson Hernandez
Barolome Fortunato
Jose Valentin
Pedro Feliciano
Duaner Sanchez
Endy Chavez
Victor Zambrano
Pedro Martinez
Maybe it's not racism, but he favors Latin players alot.

If you lived in new york, you would know that there was A LOT of talk this summer about the fact that minaya was bringing in a good amount of latino players. Then the mets started an ad campaign in spanish. It was all over the fan (sports radio 660 in new york).
He traded benson (a solid starter) for jorge julio, who was never known to be good. He bring in two over the hill guys to pinch hit from the bench (julio franco and jose valentin). He traded our other solid starter jae seo (at this point this left us with only three starters) for duaner sanchez, yes this trade worked out but he still unloaded a solid player which we needed for a latino player. Plus, he paid carlos beltran WAY TOO MUCH MONEY. Then he goes out and signs carlos delgado. Plus supposedly like all the people he hired in the front office are hispanic.
Trust me, if you were in new york you would know that this was talked about.

Actually..here's something funny for you. He's not racist?
Shea Stadium has used ChaseBank as it's sponsor for a few years now. Starting two years ago, the Mets picked up Banco Populare as their official sponsor. Hmm..
The radio all over NY suggested we change Mr Met's name to "Senor Met." So, I guess we're the only Met fans who think he favors Latin players.

Okay, and in New York there are television channels galore that are in spanish. It's just the way it has to be, bilingulal, it's not racist- it's a smart business move.
He traded benson (a solid starter) for jorge julio, who was never known to be good. He bring in two over the hill guys to pinch hit from the bench (julio franco and jose valentin).
Benson's wife was causing trouble, and no matter what Omar said, that was the deciding factor in why Benson was gone. Julio Franco is a leader, if you watch him on the bench he's talking to everybody, keeping everybody pepped up. He was so essential to the Braves even at his age, Brian Jordan can't fill that for the Braves. Jose Valentin may not be that great, but either way its another veteran to help out the young infield and our young core.
He traded our other solid starter jae seo (at this point this left us with only three starters) for duaner sanchez, yes this trade worked out but he still unloaded a solid player which we needed for a latino player.
Seo was never respected, he was demoted to the minors at one point last year. Duaner was brought in because our bullpen is what killed us last year, not starting pitching.
Plus, he paid carlos beltran WAY TOO MUCH MONEY. Then he goes out and signs carlos delgado.
Beltran was getting paid HUGE money no matter WHERE he went, remember the playoffs? He was getting paid big bucks from any team. As for Delgado, I don't see how you're complaining, he tried last year and didn't work, now he got him and it worked out big time. Who cares.
Plus supposedly like all the people he hired in the front office are hispanic.
Trust me, if you were in new york you would know that this was talked about.
Don't you think it's time hispanics and other races where allowed to get those front office jobs?
And I live in NY, and while thats talked about, it's also forgotten about if you think about it indepth.

You should hear all the jokes on the radio over here. It is pretty funny. And I know the GM doesn't pick sponsors, that's what Media relations is for. But it is funny. Listen to the radio stations in NY, you'll see what I mean. And I know my point was obviously not there when I read my own posts now. 1. he should have noticed that beltran's market value was way too high, that is what a good gm would do, beltran had one good series and turned it into a huge contract. We could have got some other guys for a much better value.
2. Anna may have been a headache, but julio SUCKS. He didnt get anywhere near proper value for benson. Yes we needed bullpen help, but he traded away two starters, thus making us need starter help.
3. So i forgot that he traded, sue me.

first of all, i was just presenting the argument to a person who never knew about it.
I have no problem that hispanic's get front office jobs, i dont care what race the person is. But i was saying that his hiring practices on the field were similar to his hiring practices in the office. And i had heard on sports radio during the past few months that supposedly all the people that he has brought into the front office have been hispanic. That certainly is not right. It makes it seem like he constantly gives preference to hispanics.

This means we have to bring up Jose Lima to start for awhile and possibly Mike Pelfry.
hahahahah.
in a related story, Scott Kazmir is 5th in the AL in strikeouts. hahah, silly mets.
i'm not gonna bother reading this whole thread. but you can pitch when you need tommy john surgery. he wasn't risking his career. your arm is just not close to being as strong as it could be because you've hurt a ligament. pitchers pitch before they know they need tommy john all the time.
