East:
1 Philadelphia - so much talent and thuggery has never been assembled in one locker room
2 Washington - the red light will be a regular fixture at Verizon Center given the Caps' offense and defense
3 Boston - coming back to reality this year but the B's are lucky the Northeast is a cakewalk
4 Pittsburgh - Fourth? Second in the division? Bring it on Penguin whiners!
5 Carolina - WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
6 New Jersey - third in the Atlantic but first in inducing me to sleep
7 New York Rangers - this depends on Gaborik not being put on the side of a milk carton
8 Atlanta - contract year for Kovy and the Thrashers had a productive off-season
------------------------
9 Toronto - wait until next year...or the year after that...or the year after that
10 Tampa Bay - will the on-ice product be as good as the side-show?
11 Montreal - what's 11 in French?
12 Florida - waiting until next year to complete the 2002 National Champs' blue line
13 Buffalo - best news this year comes from the jersey department
14 Ottawa - no Heatley, no care
15 New York Islanders - Cam Fowler, here we come!
West
1 San Jose - petitioning the NHL to end the season in April [PC one]
2 Detroit - Fuck Detroit. I had to get that off my chest after being nice to the Wings during all the awards
3 Calgary - here's hoping Phaneuf doesn't get Bouwmeester's sloppy seconds
4 Chicago - too bad this isn't a best uniform competition
5 Vancouver - too bad this isn't a worst uniform competition
6 Anaheim - does anyone care about the Ducks?
7 St. Louis - won't be singing the Blues with Erik Johnson back
8 Los Angeles - all three Cali teams make the playoffs for the first time in history...or someone gets fired
-----------------
9 Minnesota - here's hoping Marty Havlat can be "Skating Jesus"
10 Dallas - no fucking clue what to say about Dallas - so many intangibles anything can happen. Umm, Norm Green sucks!
11 Edmonton - third in a trio of enigmas, at least the Oil have Mike Comrie!
12 Columbus - too much pressure is on the young core to repeat last year's showing
13 Phoenix - 13th provided they still exist by the end of the season
14 Nashville - prove me wrong Predators, prove me wrong
15 Colorado - only the second-best hockey team in Denver

I can definitely see it happening given the Flyers have a lot of talent but Stevens hasn't shown he has control of the locker room and can take the team to the next level.
Personally my favorite one is the King Clancy, just because of how ridiculous it is (if you don't know what the King Clancy award is, look it up).

I approve... not only are some people picking LA to make the playoffs, but you all have them facing San Jose in the first round. This is good!
a) I don't know nearly enough about hockey to make predictions but I will say that I hope we (Ducks) face the Sharks again in the playoffs. Nothing better than the miserable look in Sharks fans faces when they lose in the playoffs...again
b) Are the Kings really supposed to be that much better to where they are a playoff team? They have finished in the bottom 2 the last 3 years.

b) Are the Kings really supposed to be that much better to where they are a playoff team? They have finished in the bottom 2 the last 3 years.
The Kings improved and put themselves in position for a playoff rub with a couple big additions (Scuderi and Smyth) and their young core has improved a lot. That said, in the end LA's a tough team to peg. I don't know if they are a playoff team or not (although I did put them at eighth) because seven through eleven are close in both conferences, but they should be in that sort of mix.

LA all comes down to goaltending. All the other pieces of the team are capable of getting to the playoffs.
Alright, just wanted to know. Like I said I'm just a casual hockey fan that doesn't know much about anybody outside of the Ducks. The Kings have been bad the last 3 years so it'd be nice to have some watchable hockey on TV on nights the Ducks don't play.

Hahaha... I know it is a huge jump I am looking at but I definitely feel like they have the potential. Stamkos is my man and I really want to see him put up a lot of points this season. I feel like they gained a little bit on defense with a certain Canuck. The only thing I feel isn't there is a strong enough goaltender.

i find it kind of silly that so many have Dallas ranked so low. The Stars were bad last year, but lets not forget why. Their entire lineup was basically an injury report.
They're returning all their big players besides Zubov (who's hardly played in the last few years anyway), and their young guys (who i like a lot) have quite a bit of experience now from last year.
If Dallas stays healthy i don't see how they could not be a playoff team.

That's the big question. I know Dallas had more injuries than usual last season, but to me they're a hard team to gauge due to that, Marc Crawford and Marty Turco's questionable goaltending. They'll improve, but with 7-12 in the West being pretty much on par with one another it's hard to have playoff expectations for a team with so many unknown elements. Plus it's Dallas; people forget they have a team sometimes.

Hahaha. That's true. I do believe that people have really overlooked what Detroit still has. But, Chicago was the third best team in the West last season, and they did add arguably the best free agent on the market this year... I think Chicago's only question mark is how good Huet will be... and people are saying the same thing about Detroit's goaltending.

Goaltending doesn't really matter in the regular season when your team is as strong as Chicago's.
As for Detroit, goaltending has not mattered to them for the last decade due to their system and team strength. And they've been very successful obviously.
The real test will be in the playoffs since both teams will be in it.
