i went with anchorman because i like the style it had, and how satirical it was. madison was funny and is a classic, but i just really like anchorman.
another good poll, if it doesn't already exist (and it may) would be a comedy crew showdown. adam sandler and the crew usually in their movies vs. the will ferrell crew.

Wow, I'm really surprised. I really thought Billy Madison would run away with this one. It's one of the classics and led the way for a bunch of comedies that would follow, so I have to go with Billy Madison. That, and it makes me laugh outloud which Anchorman did not.

I have one message for the 18 of you who chose Anchorman
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

This thread disgusts me. It's like comparing aged scotch with Hamm's. Anchorman is on a whole different world of comedy than Billy Madison, and I loved Billy Madison once upon a time. Anchorman >>>>>>>>> Billy Madison, and anyone that says differently deserves to be punched in the face and then ostracized my society.
I feel very strongly about this.

Now wait a minute Mr., I never said I disliked Anchorman. It's fucking hilarious, and has moments of undeniable genius, but Billy Madison is a fucking classic for me. I've watched it like 50 times and it's still hilarious. Anchorman had nowhere near the staying power for me (beyond a few scenes), and even it's "classic" scenes never made me laugh quite as hard as the ones in Madison (of which there are more).
The only thing I hate about Anchorman is Christina Applegate's character, which kind of puts a big damper on the movie for me. Both are great, but I'd choose Billy Madison over Anchorman a thousand times over.

Nothing wrong with that, but it helps prove a point: you're 19 years old, you were in junior high (maybe late grade school?) when these movies were coming out, and you were the target audience (as was I) being an immature boy. Happy Gilmore and Big Daddy and whatever got insanely popular because how easy the comedy is via Adam Sandler's outlandish characters and inane plots. The movies were produced for certain demographics, those certain demographics ate it up, and the man became wildly popular.

I definitely have to call that out. Relies far less on random ass shit? Are you kidding me...it's about an adult man who goes through K-12 again, in which situation he hooks up with his 3rd grade teacher, the principal is busted for suffocating someone to death when he was a professional wrestler, and one of the biggest laughs from the movie comes from an imaginary penguin. That is the tip of the iceberg.
That's a completely ridiculous argument. Most of Anchorman's laughs are based around the bravado from 1970's men. Sure, there is a man punting Baxter, a random street fight between five news teams, and a bear fight, but at least the basis of the movie is remotely realistic.

Slightly shocked that Anchorman is winning. I went with Billy Madison because everytime I watch it I still think it's hilarious. Anchorman got kinda old for me after awhile, I will say this though, after not watching it for a couple years and watching it again recently I laughed harder than I did the previous few times I'd watched it.

i cant say im overly shocked anchorman is winning....and it really is a tough call, i just find the humor of billy madison to be more to my liking. It's true I think Anchorman does rely more on "random lines" to be funny whereas Billy Madison relies more on randomness in general probably....like the whole O'Doil subplot (haha subplot) and them dying because the car runs over a banana peel lol wtf thats awesome....
