This thread is in conjunction with the news post (http://absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=1350871&page=2) regarding Brand New's record sales. An interesting point was brought up; Brand New's The Devil and God debuted at #31 and sold 60k albums while Daisy debuted at #6, selling 44k. There is definitely a significant difference in these numbers. What do you think the reason is?

Edit: Question should say the cause of Daisy's low album sales, not the result.

illegal downloading---its steeling no matter how you try and justify.

All of those in combination. The industry isn't in the best shape right now, illegal downloading is rampant, and the press and publicity for this album left a lot to be desired.

People don't really buy albums anymore, and when people do get albums, many times it's through illegal downloading as has been stated before. Also, shouldn't this be the cause of Daisy's low album sales?

Yes, it should be the cause of. My mistake!

Anyone who voted "The Band and Album" are moronic. The album sold less, but charted higher - therefore a bigger percentage of people buying albums in general bought this specific album, which means it's clearly to do with the state of the industry. It's already stated that TDAG sold more but charted lower. People just don't buy records any more - I still haven't bought it (for shame).

Low sales?

WUT?!

introduction

it's a combination of all 3. you can't just blame one of them. no one buys cds anymore, there was almost no marketing for the album, not to mention the album is polarising like crazy, plus there was the leak three weeks early, and tons of people download without buying.

When you debut at #6 i wouldn't exactly call it low album sales, but like many have said the industry isn't exactly in great shape

Obviously the industry/economy is effecting album sales. But, I honestly don't think the new cd is that good. I love Brand New but, the new cd just isn't good enough for me to buy. I only bought a couple of tracks off itunes (Daisy, At the Bottom, etc.). It's creative, artistic, and original, but that doesn't always equate to great music. It doesn't have enough widespread appeal. Example: when I first showed my sister Deja Entendu she loved it! It became one of her favorite cds. I recently showed her the new album and her reaction was "eh...it's ok"

Illegal downloading. Few people in the underground rock arena purchase physical albums anymore.

$3, that is definitely a steal! 3eb is definitely an awesome band and great group of guys. I've had the opportunity to advertise for and work with them a few times and they are one of my favorite bands to help out.

It's cause no one pays for music anymore except that 40k/whatever group of people. haha.

I do it to support the band, even though I already had the album.

I think more true fans should do the same.

But yeah, the industry is in shambles. They need to embrace it and look to cut costs in physical CDs.

Oh yes, horrible band. Their lyrics are simply dreadful, and the singer has the worst voice. I think they may be worse than Brokencyde.

This album actually surpassed expecations as far as the amount of units that were moved. With the record industry climate the way it is and with the limited press done to promote this release, debuting at #6 is astounding.

i think that shows you the industry. if something just a couple years ago could sell 60k and not even crack the top 30 of the week, where now something that sells 44k and debuted at 6, i think that goes to show you that brand new fans are loyal. even when record sales, the economy, and publicity for the album/band are bad, they still sell a ton of records.

I'm a physical copy person and can't help but buy CDs, but I just don't listen to Brand New anymore. So I guess it would be a combo of both.
