What a bunch of crap. This guy turned the franchise around. He shouldnt get the blame for years of poor talent evaluation in the GM dept.

I agree, I think its stupid for them to have fired him. Whichever team gets him next will get a great coach

FIRE DOC.
Adelman would look great on the C's bench.

I'm confused. Before Adelman, the Kings were horrible.

the owners dont get that. they're doing their best mark cuban impression.
not surprisingly, they want don nelson to be the next coach.

I never thought the Kings orginization was that dumb. That truly is dumb.

cool, he got to the postseason, but at some point you have to set the benchmark higher than just making the playoffs -- especially after you've been there 8 straight times.

Artest only loses half his salary next year now?

i dont agree. he's overachieved with this team for the past 8 years. He's seen Webber, Peja, Divac and Williams (all major contributors to his team) skip town and he's continued to make this team matter. He should have went back to Portland (where he reached 2 finals) and rebuilt that team, like he was rumored to after Cheeks left, because Sacremento has clearly had other ideas since this season began.
Petrie hasnt had a decent draft pick since Williams, all the way back in 1998. It isnt Adelmans fault that he hasnt been supplied with enough young talent to stay at the elite level this franchise thinks they are worthy of. I just don't get this ..it'd be like the Braves firing Bobby Cox cause he finished in 2nd place for 2-3 years in a row despite an obvious lack in talent compared to recent seasons.

Wow.
I just read this on NBA.com, hoped it would be here.
This is ridiculous in every aspect of the situation.

Really retarded. He was a great coach, in my opinion. Really underrated.
Oh well. I'd love to see him coach the Celtics now. That'd be cool with me.

considering half of those years he didn't have playoff quality talent, and when he did have the talent they challenged to make the finals before they let the team fall apart. i'd say they should be damn happy with eight straight postseasons.

i totally agree. even though he's a good coach and changed the feeling about the kings, you can't be satisfied with 8 births and no championships.

when his team was at its peak, the Lakers were dominant. Other years (like this one) he got his team to overachieve. The Kings are going to be lost without him, especially if Petrie continues to screw up.

nah, he can throw it all at Bonzi now...and if he needs to, he can get a summer job to help out too...

Exactly, for the Kings to be successful (see Bulls/Clippers, etc prior to the last two-ish years to see unsuccessful) when they shouldn't always have been.
I'd actually like to have seen him in the college game...maybe at that NC State job if it was still around...I'd like to see him try to transform that team into the same overachieving style

i agree with what you wrote. but at somepoint, you have to raise the benchmark of success from just being in the playoffs to actually doing damage i.e. making the finals.
I dunno, as a Kings fan for 19 years (yes, when they had lionel simmons, billy owens, duane causwell, mitch richmond, tyus edney, etc.), I am happy to see him go.
Ever since they played the Mavs in the playoffs and trailed by 36 pts....and Webber went down, I was pissed. There comes a time in the game you have to throw in the towel in a game. Webber has never played a full season, and he had problems with his ankles that year. One fuck up, out for the series.
And those who say he turned the team around...the team went 27-23 in the lockout shortened season, first time they had a winnning record in a lot of years in Sac and made the playoffs (no, i didn't look that up..i am a true Kings fan, which are very hard to find in Sacramento). They had Webber, Williams, Stojakovic, Divac on that team. That was the first year things turned around. I think it was a coincidence that he was the coach that did it. Sorry if that goes against your opinion. The Kings got the draft rights to Stojakovic in 96, they practically stole Webber for Richmond, and got Divac to be a team leader.
That team was good. Over achieve? If anything there were years of bullshit against the Lakers. Samaki Walker for 3...after the buzzer anyone?
I think it was time for something to change with this team, and as a lifelong Kings fan I favor it. I think for those of you that say he got fucked, he had a good 8 year run, and to compare it to Bobby Cox is not even close to equal.
And those who bashed the GM. Ummmm, yeah read my comments about stealing players. Richmond for Webber? Peja for Artest? Williams for Bibby? Drafting Peja? The GM of the Kings, Geoff Petrie, has been voted GM of the year many times...and for very good reason.
Petrie > Adelman.

I agree about raising the benchmark ..I just think it was Petrie who deserved the boot. I think Adelman and Petrie raised the benchmark together in the late 90s, but lately it's been only Adelman doing his job to keep them at least near that level.

Petrie > Adelman.
Petrie did a great job getting the talent for the Kings to compete with the Lakers at the time. But since Jason Williams was picked in 1998, the dude's closest thing to a good draft pick has been Kevin Martin. He's left Adelman with very little to work and I think for the Kings to claw into the playoffs at the #8 seed is a result of Adelman getting the most out of an overachieving bunch.
Petrie should have been cut loose before Adelman, IMO. The talent just isnt there and thats because the Kings havent had a meaningful draft pick in 7 years. This franchise is going to fall, and fall hard in the short term. It seems that Kings fans who support this move have memory loss because this franchise went from being meaningless to a perennial playoff contender and that's a direct result of Adelman.

there's no denying that there were some personal matters here though. it didn't have as much to do with his coaching job as everyone thinks. but all that aside, bigmike is right. at some point they have to succeed in the playoffs. they have to say 'okay, let's stop screwing around and get to the finals'. similar reasons as to don nelson's departure here. he put together fantastic consecutive seasons here, but the mavs were never a postseason threat. this season feels so much different with AJ at the reigns. this could be good for the kings. maybe not as quick, but soon enough.

The Kings did a lot of it with trades, not draft picks. And this year Wells was hurt a lot of the time, and he didn't really get along with Peja. That is a lot to blame for their team not being that great this year as well.
