Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group will begin selling its movies and television content through BitTorrent. The whole story can be read here (http://www.billboard.biz/bb/biz/newsroom/dvd_video/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id= 1002465131).
smart move on their part, i think.

what exactly does this mean?

if you don't consider all the ways in which it could backfire. realistically, they are making their product more readily available as far as sharing/seeding goes.

Sweet.
Tate, if you read this: The Warner execs totally read that Future of Music book--you know, because it says to embrace all the downloading stuff that's going on instead of completely trying to stop it and everything ;) (I forget exactly what it said...I'm only on like page 40)

Semi cool, still going to be abused though.

which makes it faster to download. let's not forget, it's gonna come loaded with all kinds of protection/DRM/etc.

That's intense. If they were smart they would release it in MP4 format and take a big ol' slice out of Apple's potential pie.

I would never buy a movie to download..ever. If i actually like a dvd enough to purchase it i want the whole package. The same goes for buying cds on itunes, i've never done it and never will.
just my opinion....

I don't think it takes a book to understand why this might be a good idea. (Then again, there are also reasons why this isn't a good idea.)

i have to agree. nothing wrong with buying cds on itunes, it's a neat idea, but i want the liner notes and the artwork and the physical cd.

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
this is garbage:
+ you pay the same price as you would for a dvd
+ you get a lower quality version that can only be played on one computer (probably windows media drm, so no linux / apple)
+ you don't get the actual dvd
+ you don't get any of the extra video stuff
+ YOU HAVE TO USE BT TO DOWNLOAD IT, imagine paying 19.99 and then getting stuck with no seeders left at 99%
worst idea ever. it is likely just a way for them to be like "LOLZ OH WELLZ WE TRIED 'NET DOWNLAODS AND NOBODY LIKED IT NO MORE K"

I'd assume that they would have some way of constantly seeding..but the rest are great points.

Not to completely disagree, but I'm sure WB will always superseed their own torrent...
and a lot of people I know find the extras to be completely useless, if they don't ignore them altogether.
The one computer thing is the major hurdle though.
