The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:
Boys Will Be Boys - (Mark Wood, drummer) [myspace (http://www.myspace.com/boyswillbeboys)]
1. How did you get your band name?
I'ts pretty much our way of life, every time girls get mad at you for doing something wrong you just have to tell them: boys will be boys.
2. How did this band get started?
Kevin and I were in a band called Kenmore and when we disbanded I decided to form an all star power pop group with the best musicians from the area that I could find. We eventually kicked out Kevin and replaced him with a new member from Maryland about 30 minutes north of where we live in Northern Virginia.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
Our biggest influence and I think the reason why we all picked up our instruments is because of Blink 182. What might shock you though is Lehi listens to musicals and loves CDs like Moulan Rouge, etc. etc.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
I think our lifestyle could go hand in hand with Motley Cru or maybe even Poison. It would be rad to tour with them and check out hot MILFS all night.
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
I would definitely be a sugar glider. They are the tightest animals ever and you can even get one as a pet. I would just glide around to my owner all day, everyday and be nutty as hell.
6. Why should people listen to your band?
People should listen to our band because we’re pop punk, but with a new twist to it. We can be catchy and stuck in your head for days, but you’ll also want to keep listening to hear the shredding guitars and technical musical parts.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
We would DEFINITELY put "Jaded" in the game, in that guitar solo would be sooooo sick on 5 star expert. We actually found out rock band is doing something soon with unsigned bands and we’re definitely going to hop on that bandwagon.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
All of our parents for being supportive of us and letting us use their basements to practice in. Sean Small for recording us for so cheap, all of our friends and family for being supportive, and of course the fans because without them buying our music and merch, we would be nothing right now.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
No more major record labels. They should just worry about their conglomerates making movies and other forms of media rather than music. After the napster downloading age took over the industry, they keep fucking over bands that sign to a major first, or upstream from an indie.
10. Memorable tour experience?
Every day and every night is a new experience that’s crazy for boys will be boys.
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
In our eyes it's 1st in the music industry for the latest breaking news. I feel everyone who is a part of the music industry wakes up, grabs their cup of coffee and signs online to check out ap dot net. It’s amazing what you guys do to break bands and keep up on all the latest news.
12. What is your favorite song to play?
"That’s What’s Up" because its full of energy, and its got a great ending. We play it last because everyone knows the lyrics.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
I have yet to go to any cool vacation spots, but since we live in Virginia, we love to go to Ocean City Maryland or Virginia Beach on weekends in the summer.
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
For me, it’s the boss aka Bruce Springstein. Every time I listen to him it reminds me of my dad taking me to football or basketball practice in the car.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
If you have seen The Watchmen, then I would have the powers Doctor Manhattan has. Why? Because he’s basically god. I answered this how Joe would’ve answered this question because he’s a nerd at heart.
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
Our itunes sales show that we have made it, we’ve been on tour, sold tons of merch and constantly connect with the fans every day via media outlets like myspace. I won’t say we have made it until were on a record label and release a full length in the Billboard top 100. That’s a big goal of mine.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
I have epilepsy, which means I have seizures and have to take medicine for it.
18. What's your favorite holiday?
Christmas! Everyone loves to GIVE presents
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I play lacrosse and basketball or lift weights. I know Joe spends every minute of his spare time playing video games.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
hmmmm, I guess when people look at me I’m a skinny indie looking kid, but I was actually a jock my whole life and played varsity lacrosse and basketball in high school. One more win for the emo/indie kids! haha
