Yeah I don't know about the new Rancid. I didn't hate it but it was not anything grand. You'd think with like 5 or so years in between albums you'd have something a bit more. To me, no one track really stood out as great. I'm not going to go all and out come the wolves, but even on indestructible I could pick out a handful of songs that i could really jam to.

I'm surprised to see Far as you're most disappointing. While it was more polished than her other releases, I thought it was very well done. Laughing with was such an interesting idea for a song, and dance anthem of the 80's is a blast to listen to.

Just struck the wrong chord with me. The only song I listen to regularly is 'Human of the Year'. It's not flat out bad, but that's why I put it under that qualifier as opposed to, worst album or something like that.

I haven't seen anyone talking about this album at all. I love it (minus " Mix it Up"). "Too Much Too Fast" and "Golden Sunlight" are two of my favorite tracks of the year. Have you heard any of the b-sides? "Sun Come Through" is incredible.

It was the first record I ever heard in the genre (pseudo-R&B indie rock?) and I can easily say it's been a major part in the reshaping of my music tastes this year.

Just struck the wrong chord with me. The only song I listen to regularly is 'Human of the Year'. It's not flat out bad, but that's why I put it under that qualifier as opposed to, worst album or something like that.

Haven't listened yet, but I have been meaning to.

I like the pun ("struck the wrong chord with me"). I guess it hit people in different ways. I have friends who hated it because it was too polished/poppy. I happened to dig it.

As for the Mayer single, I'm actually not too thrilled about it. it depends on what the standouts were on Continuum for you. Personally, Heart of Life wasn't a favorite for me. That's what the new single reminds me of most. My favorite Mayer stuff is the JM3 stuff, so this didn't rock me.

It depends how you felt about Fast Times...I liked it but not nearly as much as Santi and Almost Here. This feels like the EP that would be in between them.

In between Santi and Fast Times? or in between Almost Here and Santi? I'd rank them as they came out: 1. Almost Here, 2. Santi, 3. Fast Times. I definitely listened to Almost Here more than the other 2 combined, but I love Bulls in Brooklyn. What a song.

Ahhh. Well 'Heart of Life' is pretty good, not a favorite. Except when he worked in the refrain from 'In Repair' at the end of it on Where the Light Is. That was sweet. Hard to say what my favorites off Continuum are, for some reason. I really like 'In Repair' and 'I'm Gonna Find Another You' though. Also 'Belief' and 'Bold as Love' (he has a knack for Hendrix covers).

1. As Cities Burn - Hell Or High Water

Thrice - Beggars was an incredible album, and I REALLY wanted to put them as my favorite album this year but I just couldn't do it. It didn't have a lot of staying power for me. The album that really hit me the hardest this year was Hell Or High Water. From beginning to end it was just an incredible listen... a rollercoaster of different sounds and influences, all of them equally as engaging. I remember the first time I heard Cody sing "Was I really listening? Or was I just waiting for my turn to talk? I've got everything to say too..." on Errand Rum. Or the first time I heard the instantly catchy hook "Go throw yourself into the sea..." on Into The Sea. Or how on Lady Blue the song changes radically halfway through the song and it still managed to sound like the same song. There are so many other moments from this album that have stuck with me, and I just CANNOT say that about Beggars.

2. Brand New - Daisy

I love Brand New, and I love Daisy. But, because of my own high expectations, it is the one album that fell short the most. It didn't sound like as complete of an album as The Devil and God... did, the lyrics are subpar, and only had a few real standout tracks for me. (Sink, Daisy, Noro) Still a great CD though.

3. P.O.S. - Never Better

I don't listen to rap, like, ever. So, to listen to this album as much as I did is really surprising to me. I had it playing forever and still go back to it on occasion. Great, great CD.

4. Alexisonfire - Old Crows/Young Cardinals

This is my favorite Alexisonfire album to date and it spent a lot of time spinning in my car. A lot of people hated the direction and sound the band took with this CD but I absolutely loved every minute of it. It's definitely a grower.

5. Relient K - Forget And Not Slow Down

Relient K - Relient K was the first album I ever bought and I haven't looked back. I shared it with all of my friends and soon after they all bought the album too. It was a very cool experience for me and I have stuck with them ever since. Based on the new songs I have heard so far, I am HIGHLY looking forward to this release.

Theo was named the starting goalie going into training camp and Varlamov played very well during the preseason, so the likely plan is that him and Theo will start in a 1a/b type role and whoever performs the best by game 25 will probably be starting. Theo got the nod tonight since he was the original starter. We might see Varly on Saturday.

Good, I thought for sure he would be starting after starting all the postseason games so I traded Wideman to get Varlamov since I assumed he would be getting a lot of wins due to Ovechkin and his supporting cast and then I found out he wasn't even starting.
Thanks, your information is very helpful.

They're so dreadful, though...not as dreadful as this disdain for dissent that seems to have infected this site. Why not provide a counterargument to defend the band instead of calling "nay nay" or whining like a child about someone else's opinions?

I respect your opinion and agree that they're somewhat over rated. I'll have to disagree that they're dreadful though. Lyical content is clever while still catchy. There are so many bands around today that are worse than them.

I guess in between Santi and Fast Times. It is catchy but seemingly more mature, if that makes any sense.

because he tries to sound like he knows what he is talking about when he doesn't. I gotta check out the new album.

I haven't seen anyone talking about this album at all. I love it (minus " Mix it Up"). "Too Much Too Fast" and "Golden Sunlight" are two of my favorite tracks of the year. Have you heard any of the b-sides? "Sun Come Through" is incredible.

Oh man you knocked out one of my favorite songs, the lyrics are corny, but I think that's part of its charm. Fun songs. I found the album pretty consistant all the way through, doesn't quite match Don't Tread On Me (which was their best album since S/T), but still a solid release that didn't get the appreciation it deserved. And no haven't heard the b-side, but I'll check soulseek tonight.

The only song I didn't really care for was India Ink, its a bad song made worse by its location on the album.

I don't care if you make fun of me, it's just you've been using the same thing for the past week or so. It's getting old, it's not very accurate, and it seems like you're attempting to box me into this persona, as if Brian = Be Your Own Animal Projectors fan, because we've talked about all of those bands on one occasion. Sure I like those bands, but that doesn't define me as a person or as a music fan. What I'm saying is, you could do better.

I was obnoxiously busy yesterday, so I never got around to doing much of anything. I guess I could start a new thread, but I'm also perfectly content with just hijacking this one and writing what I want to write and encouraging others to do the same. I don't know, I'll figure out a game plan after I get back from class.

Plenty of people are justifying their reasoning behind album selections, so there is an adequate amount of opinionated discussion as opposed to mere rankings. But hey, threads (including the material) are flexible! If they weren't, then threads would be called metal rods or something.

What I'm saying is, I've mentioned it possibly twice as a joke, once in this thread and once in the other. If you can't take a hit to the ol' ego every once in a while (about the artists you enjoy, and good comedy comes from continuity, and that's the artists you've used in discussion with me), then I'd refrain from chatting on the internet.

EDIT - Also, you made a thread about BYOP, and I saw you comment on someone's chosing of Bite Orca. From what little I've seen of your responses on this board, it seems to be of those, and that's all I can predicate my interaction with you on - what I read of your messages on this board.

From what I've gathered in this thread, you chastise a list about threads, claiming it doesn't inspire articulate discussion, yet do nothing to combat it or contribute a thread that actually does as you say. In essence, you're as much of the "problem" as you're criticizing. Making fun of lists is as meaningless as, well, lists, except that lists can lead to ancillary dialog. Complaining about lists leads to nothing, and no one who enjoys creating them is going to stop because of it. However, making more threads that promote discussion-type responses would.

It's not that I can't take shit from people. I thought this (http://absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?p=54567862#post54567 862) was pretty brutal (about the mixtape, not the rest), but I enjoyed it because it was fairly accurate. You zinged me hard. But this shit about Be Your Own Pet and Animal Collective? It's just not accurate. I don't feel like you've hit home for me in any large way, and the fact that you keep bringing it up is just getting annoying. I binged on BYOP for two weeks and thought you not considering MPP in the top 70 was a bit harsh. That's it. It's like if I referenced Gandhi in a discussion, and then every time I talked to you, you made some reference to me about Gandhi. Sure, Gandhi was a great guy, but I don't identify with Gandhi. I am not "had" by you bringing up Gandhi. The zing has missed it's mark.

So, in essence, this transpired because you're not zinging me, not because you are. Keep with the Dirty Projectors though, I am all over their dick.

EDIT - Also, you made a thread about BYOP, and I saw you comment on someone's chosing of Bite Orca. From what little I've seen of your responses on this board, it seems to be of those, and that's all I can predicate my interaction with you on - what I read of your messages on this board.
Fair enough. But as I said, I don't feel like you're burning me with any of these references.

From what I've gathered in this thread, you chastise a list about threads, claiming it doesn't inspire articulate discussion, yet do nothing to combat it or contribute a thread that actually does as you say. In essence, you're as much of the "problem" as you're criticizing. Making fun of lists is as meaningless as, well, lists, except that lists can lead to ancillary dialog. ...or I would have done any of these things if I hadn't been crazy busy yesterday, as I just said. I'll make a new thread with my opinions that you can tear to shreds right now.

i wouldn't give you shit for liking the new billy talent. i mean he's made three albums that all sound the same (in my opinion) but for some people, that's exactly what they want. he may of usurped celine dion as canada's only musical hero (yes i'm going over the bare naked ladies).

canada has pushed out SUCH better shit than billy talent.

I don't feel like you've hit home for me in any large way,

Here is where you're being deliberately obtuse: it's "you" inasmuch as you present yourself here. You clearly enjoy BYOP greatly, because you were inspired to make a thread about them and discussed their work in great detail in two respective threads. Secondly, you chastised my subjective list (which is fine, if nonsensical) for not including Animal Collective and Dirty Projectors (showing your obvious approval and enjoyment of their work) and doing so at the expense of an Art Brut (which is a pretentious thing to say, considering it's a personal list of favorites, but again, I have no problem waxing poetic on my inclusions with you). It's a relatively accurate depiction of some of your favorite bands by what you have talked about, expressed and, you know, the bands you have listed on your favorite bands section of your profile.

Talk about more bands, and I'll make them into jokes...no I won't. I don't think you're that receptive to it.

and the fact that you keep bringing it up is just getting annoying.

Two threads. Two.

If you mentioned [name drop here] in a few threads and did so in detail, I'd be likely to joke around with you using [name drop here] a few times. It's not unreasonable.

...or I would have done any of these things if I hadn't been crazy busy yesterday, as I just said. I'll make a new thread with my opinions that you can tear to shreds right now.

EDIT: http://absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=1356692

So you had time to chastise others but not back your shit up until called out on it? Or, you actually intended to do so, but then, why not wait until you can prove you're contributions to the board?

Okay, I reread the conversation, and you're right, I was being pretty butthurt about the whole thing. The first time you made that joke I tried clearing the air on it and you brushed me off, and the second time I just got overly frustrated by the whole thing. Plus, I may have been drunk on one or more of these occasions. I'm sorry. E-friends?

Ugh, I've already told you why. It was a misunderstanding. I wasn't insulting Art Brut, I thought you had at some point in the past insulted Art Brut, thusly confusing me as to why you would include a band I (wrongly) thought you hated over bands I thought you were simply indifferent to (AC and DP). A thousand pardons.

How does disappointment in a thread topic equal chastising? They can go ahead and list until the earth ends in 2012 (in theaters November 13!), I don't really care. I just thought that it was actual discussion discussion thread, not thing-that-could-sometimes-lead-to-discussion-under-the-right-circumstances-and-with-the-right-participants discussion thread. A "take on" usually doesn't mean "here, fill in these five blanks", so I think you can understand how I got confused and thusly disappointed.

Insult Art Brut all day. It's all good. What I gathered was that you were shocked that I wouldn't include such "essential" albums as Bitte Orca when "lesser" albums made it, which I perceived to be a jab at my tastes, which is in your prerogative to do but still kinda pretentious. You're right though, you explained in detail that it more because you thought I hated Art Brut (when it was Topegi who said that, right?), leading to the surprise. I had a lapse in memory. As the kids say (that makes me sound like a douche) "my bad."

How does disappointment in a thread topic equal chastising?

You're openly expressing disdain for something they've done and that's common on AP. I'd say that's chastising their choice of posts, which is cool, but initially, you did nothing to combat the perceived (which I agree with) problem, which, you know, is/was kinda lame. Also, that negates the potential for actual discussion that comes from certain artists being listed, to which others respond and it can/does start actual dialog (not always, I don't know the stats, but I've seen and been a part of it).

You bring up valid points and eventually went on lend those points merit, so, you know, in my face.

No, it's all good. I was clearly being a bigger ass than you, so in my face. Let's both try to keep stupid things like this from ever ruining us as e-buddies, mmkay?

I think the album would've been slightly improved with some horns, but it was awesome nonetheless I think. "Bled to Be Free" is my favorite I think
