Chris Daughtry Gets 'Idol' Boot and Offer of a Lifetime
May 11, 2006
Twenty-eight million jaws dropped to the floor Wednesday night as Chris Daughtry got voted off “American Idol.” But don’t think this rocker is down and out.

Only “Extra” broke big news about Chris that’s making headlines from Ryan Seacrest’s radio show to stations across the country.

“You have an offer to be the lead singer of a major band,” Ryan revealed to Chris Thursday morning on his hit radio show. “Theyre going to be on ‘Extra’ tonight, and they’re going to submit the formal offer for you.”

Thursday, Fuel bass player Jeff Abercrombie and songwriter/guitarist Carl Bell came straight to “Extra” with the offer of a lifetime -- they want Chris.
"Chris, if you are watching, we've talked about this before, and if you want to entertain it again we'll take it and go," Abercrombie offered.

Chris’ rendition of Fuel’s “Hemorrhage” was his first groundbreaking “Idol” performance. The band, which has been searching for a lead singer, saw Chris’ performance and they want him in the band.

Well Chris, it’s up to you, but first “Extra” has another “Idol” exclusive. Our Terri Seymour was with Ryan and Randy for LA’s FOX 11 just moments after Chris’ shocking send off.

"Obviously, it wasn't based on singing tonight because the wrong person went home," Randy admitted. "Catherine probably should have gone home tonight."

It’s down to the final three, and Simon came to “Extra” telling us now there are no favorites. “The funny thing about this show is when someone goes, you never know where their votes are going to go,” Simon confessed. “I genuinely don't know who is going to win.”

see. he'll be making more money than whoever wins american idol. so it all works out for him. :)

eh, not true. a solo artist who wins American Idol is in far better shape then the lead singer of a rock band. That doesnt mean Chris isnt going to be filthy rich ...but whoever wins Idol will be better off financially. This is awesome for him though.

i could have swore i heard that an idol under their contract doesnt make anywhere near as much money as when the contract with idol runs out and they can sign with whoever. but yeah, he'll definitely be filthy rich.

that's good, because he didn't need to be a solo artist anyways... he does have a damn good voice, maybe BEDlight should have signed him, haha

they offered him the job the day after he sang hemmorage early in the season.

he's under contract for a few more months though, so nothing can come of this until at least september, maybe even later.

Fuel is a sinking ship. their better days are behind them. he'd be better of going solo, i think.

but with chris i think the ship will come back up.

im sorry but fuel is far from fuel without brett scallion. they were one of the few rock bands that really penetrated the radio crap during their tenure. grant it, they lost a lot of steam on their last release, but Something More Than Human was a great album. and i just think that Chris guy was a complete tool on the show. great voice, but he's not Fuel.

disagreed completely. brett scallion didn't write a single thing. the guitarist writes everything, lyrics included. brett just showed up for work and sang in that radio rock voice he did so well. his voice was not unique. they blew up big on the radio because the songs were good, not because he was an amazing vocalist. chris sings just as well, if not better than brett. voices like that are a dime a dozen anymore. putting him together with a band that already has name recognition would be a good thing for both parties.
