As she is probably my favorite director of this generation, and all three of her films would make my top 200, I don't know how the FUCK this flew under my radar.

Starring Benicio del Toro, Elle Fanning, Laura Ramsey, Stephen Dorff, Robert Schwartzman, Alexander Nevsky, Chris Pontius.

Speaking of Sofia Coppola, I've been meaning to watch the Virgin Suicides. The book was really, really good.

Arguably my favorite movie, ever. Book is just as good, slightly different, but her translation to film is absolutely haunting and gorgeous. Getting my copy of the book and DVD signed this week actually.
Chris Pontius is in this. Wild. I'm sure the movie will be good.

It really is. Fits the movie absolutely perfectly. I keep trying to get the OST and the soundtrack on vinyl, but the prices are ungodly. One day, I shall have them.

I think the sperm that eventually became a young Sofia Coppola contained all of Francis Ford's talent. I still have hope that a Coppola can once again create a great film.

Well good thing her acting ability has nothing to do with her directing ability.

And you know what, due respect to Bigelow and Peter Jackson, but Sofia should've been the first woman to win Best Director.

The music in the trailer is great. Fits the mood perfectly. I'm not really a huge fan of most films that try to evoke a sympathetic emotion toward movie stars who shun the spotlight. I hope this has more to it than that. Elle fanning is poised to be a huge star. She's damn good.

Soundtrack includes Phoenix, The Police, T. Rex, The Strokes, Sebastian Tellier. Also begins with "Love Like a Sunset Part I" and ends with "Love Like a Sunset Part II." Dying to see how/if they incorporate that into the film.

At 78% on RT, a little surprised this film isn't receiving much discussion.
I always thought Sophia Coppola as hit and miss, although the majority are enjoyable. I loved Lost In Translation but abhored Marie Antoinette, which places everything else she directed in between. I am very excited to see this though, and Dorff as top billing is too good.

There's a dvdrip out there in the torrent community.
Just watched it. Excellent film. I love Copolla's obsession with the idea of communication. Whether it be simple language boundary, how you talk to people of your same age or how Johnny talks to his daughter. It was such a piece of self-discovery, I found it to be wonderful

Very, very good. Not particularly entertaining, and I hope Coppola doesn't keep down this sparse path, but it was very good. Fanning will certainly be making my end-of-the-year list; the looks she gives Johnny at the breakfast table in Italy are just priceless.

i haven't seen lost in translation in a few years. somewhere had a very similar feel to it, but i didn't really make any connections between particular scenes. what scene from lost in translation are you referring to?

I was just quoting that her films have always been hit or miss. I am not sure what was confusing about my grammar. And I loved Somewhere, so Coppola proved me wrong.

Not necessarily the grammar, but the post just reeks of ignorant pretension.
I always thought Sophia Coppola as hit and miss, although the majority are enjoyable.
"Majority" would equal two out of three, which is hardly "hit and miss."
I loved Lost In Translation but abhored Marie Antoinette, which places everything else she directed in between.
Again, "everything else in between" would be...Virgin Suicides.
I mean I've watched you post here for years, so this isn't personal, or just me trying to be a dick, but...what?

Alright, I will bite - "everything else" being one movie and the few films she's acted in besides Godfather pt 3 and her sort of image that she has grafted for herself. Overall, I would consider one movie being horrible, one movie being alright and a film of pure genius preceding the newest, Somewhere, would be hit or miss for me. Now, I will agree that she has not had too many under her belt, but I digress. I am sorry if my posts are cryptic or reeking of ignorant pretension...see The Social Network thread.
