I can't stand Tom anymore. It says it brought him to the brink of insanity? I think it went a lot further than that.

The article is very very interesting. With all due respect to Tom, it really does seem like he's lost his mind a bit.

I thought so too.
Did they name the band Angels And Airwaves (AVA) because Toms daughters name is Ava?
I have always been a big fan of Blink and Tom. I read these and knew from reading AVA's website that something is going to happen. I really hope this takes off and becomes what he dreams of. The two songs I have heard so far are pretty good but I hope they live up to his dreams. It sucks and I hope he makes it through this all ok but it definitely sounds like he is either on the brink of breaking down or creating something beautiful. I hope it is the latter. Until then we'll just have to wait and see.

I dunno, I think it might just be the way it's written. Some of the things Tom says are a bit extreme, true -- and the cynic in me can't shake the feeling that the whole, born-again-messiah-thing, is just a poorly conceived marketing scheme -- but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt; his music's given me a lot of good memories and for that I should be grateful.

I feel bad for this guy, if anything, people should buy this album for his own sanity. (That's a joke.) I mean from the discussion with his managers and the "epiphany" with Kerry, it sounds like that is a very scared, scared man. Look at the pictures of the guy, he looks like he tried talking himself into this. I love Blink. I wish Box Car never happened, or arena dates for blink.
Anyone else think this guy is becoming the white rock version of R. Kelly? Not the child-molesting, pee on your face R. Kelly, but the trapped in the bubble of his own ego R. Kelly. The guy who talks about his albums like they're going to end world poverty, and who keeps getting a bigger Jesus complex by the minute. When I heard that Tom was going to do a video for each song on the album, all I could think was "Oh no, Emo Trapped In The Closet". But maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing.

when i saw them at the troubador the other night, tom explained a little bit about the concept of the band and it's purpose, and from what i heard, it really seems to me like he's deeply passionate about creating positive music and dedicated to using it to bring people together...and fuck, if he is losing his mind, i don't blame him, blink breaking up+losing your two best friends+having a brother shipped off to Iraq+your dad being diagnosed with leukemia is some heavy shit if you ask me...i wish them all the best of luck. they are all amazing musicians

What do you think? This project is all about himself. All the posters I've seen for their shows say "Tom Delonge of Blink 182's solo project." haha, I hope the other members are getting paid well. Tom's like the Tom Cruise of pop-punk.

Yeah, I'm still excited as hell to see them play in chicago in 2 weeks.
He's a good guy, but one thing I'd change about the photos of the band, would be to put him out of the front, and back with the rest of the guys.

all i know is i saw the video for The Adventure the other night and it was awful. it was the most cliche, typical emo music video i've ever seen. i like the song, but the video was just shit. i may have gotten off point a little bit, i didnt read the article.

so whats this really about...? a desperate attempt for tom to prove to people that he's not the immature, vulgar twenty-something from his blink days anymore? is he just trying to do (and say) anything he can to make sure this new band gets taken seriously.. or has he seriously lost it?

i like the album...i mean, i dont think its the greatest thing ever, but i think its pretty good
Easy explanation:
Dude was having fun making fart joke music with his local punk band, got huge, and then realized that in the grand scheme of things, he was making pretty lame, forgettable music. Not that people weren't enjoying it, but Rolling Stone wouldn't exactly be remembering him as a rock legend 20 years from now. He wants to be remembered as a trailblazing rock genius for his generation, not as the guy who made tons of money off of a genre that was already pretty past its prime. So he starts making music that sounds more 'serious', by listening to alot of the Cure and U2. The end result?

Well, if you want to play that game, Buddy Rich is better than both of them combined, times twenty.

This article is one of the most interesting reads I've had the pleasure of reading in quite some time. I definitely like Angels and Airwaves, but I'm not sure if it's going to be as big of a success as Tom is hoping it's going to be. Things are going to get even more interesting when the Plus 44 album drops.

As much as i like reading about Tom, i just still have some pain just reading an article about Tom, and not with Mark and Travis right next to him. I hope that AVA does do good things for him as well as +44 for Mark and Travis. Hopefully one year down the road Blink will get back together. Blink was the first band i really was into, ever since i heard about the split, everytime i hear a blink song on my ipod i remember the best of times

God, you kids are fucking ridiculous sometimes.
Give Tom a break.
It's obvious the guy's been through a lot over the last few years, and this album is his healing record, if you will.
People write music to heal, not just to make themselves or someone else happy.

Amen to that!
It's called getting older---the older you get the more fucked up things you experience. It only gets harder kids, you think your gonna get better but things and your feelings about them get more fucked up. You just learn to deal with it a lITTLe better.
you must be quite ignorant to confuse tom as a christian with tom cruise the scientologist.
scientology has nothing to do with christianity, its a fuckin organization founded by a sci-fi writer.

i like the ava album, the whole concept is interesting, ava is a band with a quite cool esthetics even if some people think its gay ;D
today, i'm looking forward to the movie and i hope its not in the style of the short movies they made. i dont like them, they seem a way too "avantgarde" to me. i wish the movie will underline the concept of the album which was supposed to be very WWII. id love to have found more songs like the war, which is imo the best song of the album, the song has such a great athmosphere, the stomping drums etc. i like the guitars in valkyrie missle, they sound like taking off airplanes or helicopters. tom did a great job with that.

Yeah, you were raised on emo...
Which is fine, but that kind of thinking leads to people writing really overwrought, self-obsessed songs that are embarrasing to listen to. At the same time, in the right hands it can lead to a really good album, like John Lennon's God. But in the hands of an average artist? Could be lame!
Its funny, I think the whole "writing really personal albums" things is a pretty recent (last 15 years maybe?) idea in music. By personal, I mean "journal-entry" type songs. The Rolling Stones wrote about things that were personal to them, but not exactly in the same degree that Dashboard Confessional does. Anyone remember that Papa Roach song that was on the radio last year? About cutting himself open just to feel? I think that was a pretty good example of the kind of crap that happens when musicians write really "personal" lyrics...

yeah, that article was horribly written. the writer tries to make tom come off as insane, when really he's just extremely excited about ava. how would you feel if you were starting your first new project in over ten years and you were excited about the songs you were writing and the people you were working with? you've just gone through some of the hardest times in your life, and now you've found something to be extremely proud of...
i don't see how you all can give tom so much shit for being so passionate about something. i find it inspiring. it's that passion that people are lacking these days. i wish every band in the scene was that passionate about what they're doing. i know there are a lot of bands out there that are that passionate, they just not in a position to express it the way tom is. but i guarantee if they were, none of you would be talking shit about them. i think it's just because everyone is still bitter about the blink break up and resent tom for some reason they should get over. i think it's amazing that he's discovered this part of himself and that he can feel so driven and passionate.
well, i suppose pain creates great art. And I don't think AVA will disappoint. However, i think all these declarations and big talk from Tom take away from the band. When I first heard 'the adventure' i was expecting something completely original and mind blowing. It's good, but it's not anything spectacular. Personally I feel that the instrumentation is too big for Tom's voice. I'm curious though. I'll be at the show on July 3rd, and I'm excited to see how they play live. With Blink they sped up there songs, created medleys, and had the crowd laughing for 2 hours straight. I wonder how AVA will be live? Amazing Lights and Pyro's like a radiohead show, or a boring recreation of the album itself. I still wish him luck......and I hope he finds whatever closure he needs from his experiences.....

Brink of insanity?
Seems like he is way past that. Though having listened to the album, I do enjoy it. Its not life changing or anything, but I don't know. Its wierd. It just has a completely positive vibe to it. It seriously just makes me feel good listening to it. So in that sense, at least in me anyway, Tom has succeeded.
if he wants to make a cd that people will remember, he is going to have to do a whole lot better than their first release.

my thoughts exactly. I really liked blink's last cd. I believe it was one of Rolling Stones top 25 albums of 2003. If they kept going I really think their next cd would have been absolutely great.

Good Record, but i really hate people who act like they are gods gift in music or something. It kind of makes me sick hearing all these stupid assholes crying about how they were born to change music. And then when their album doesnt sell, they start crying and going crazy. Oh well, Tom Delonge probally deserves it with Blink 182 and all.

I don't like how he said how blink182 had no message, and what they were doing was meaningless pretty much. I think the complete opposite. They presented themselves perfectly and had the perfect message. They had fun, they never took anything too seriously, they didn't take themselves too seriously (didn't act like stupid rock stars), they just seemed like best friends having fun, making jokes, and writing music that they loved, and overall they just made people happy. I thought they had an amazing message, that life is fun.

Saw them two weeks ago at GIAN in London; actually. And, you need to see more drummers. Again, he's a solid drummer, no doubt about it; but there's a far cry between that and greatness. As for AvA, I have to say I was a little disappointed and bored. Then again, I've never really liked U2 either.
