the cardinals had their division clinched long before the Dodgers did. The Dodgers had more to play for and almost choked away the division down the stretch.
also since the all star break Dodgers are only 39-35 whereas the Cards are 42-29. Not a huge difference but the Cards have been better lately than the Dodgers.

Cardinals were still playing for home field and they have the advantage of playing in the worst division in the NL. I'm just saying I think the teams are pretty even and it'll be a good series.

Haha, meeting Mo, Luhnow, Vuch, etc. (and having them all be awesome dudes) this season made me more of a fan than ever, but Central teams just don't win on the west coast a whole lot. Plus I hate guessing 4 games for the LDS, that's a cop-out.

It's a pretty useless argument since rosters change so often, but the Cardinals have been dominating west coast teams (Padres and Dodgers) in the playoffs and regular season since 2004.

the dodgers might not even score til game 3 in this series thats how good carpenter and wainwright are. I don't know who will pitch for the cardinals game 3 or 4 but if it goes to 5 carpenter will shut them down again. I give the dodgers zero chance in this series so I'm gunna say CARDINALS IN 3!
ForlrnPerplxity
10/05/09, 04:48 PM
Pineiro is going Game 3, so he'll face Billingsley. Both have been mediocre in the last month, so I think that matchup is pretty even. The Cardinals will throw out either Smoltz or Lohse in Game 4 (if I had to guess, it'll be Smoltz), so you don't really know what to expect out of those 2.
The Cardinals have the advantage in the rotation, the lineups are probably equal w/ Pujols probably giving the Cards the slight advantage, but the Dodgers bullpen is much better. I think you should expect every one these games to be close, so I think the Dodgers bullpen wins the series, as I stated earlier. But these short series are so unpredictable, there's really no point in predicting them.
CubbyNick42

Is there a reason behind the color scheme? It is the color scheme of all 3 professional Pittsburgh teams.
CubbyNick42

No idea. I'm not as big a fan of the Steelers and Pens stuff, though. The Pirates easily have the best logo font of the three.

Penguins were originally blue, but changed in the 79 season to try to cash in on the Pirates and Steelers success (both won championships that year).

Went to a party a year or two ago and half the dudes there were wearing Pirates hats. It was apparently the logo of their "gang" which was not a gang at all because they lived in Newport Beach (think the MTV show Laguna Beach). I love their logo, it's just too bad that I haven't seen it in October since I was about 4 or 5.

My point is that it's a crapshoot. Baseball Prospectus proved pretty conclusively a couple years back that there's zero correlation between how hot a team is coming into the playoffs and how they do in the playoffs. The only consistent determining factor is the talent of the team.

st louis can still do this - with carpenter going on short rest in game 4, and wainwright with full rest in game 5...just need pineiro to come through.
definitely stings that they couldnt get the job done these last 2 games with their best guys going out there.

It's not done, but whatever. Ending it like they did tonight was pathetic. I really wish I didn't care about the outcome this much, haha. Sucks that they have an off-day tomorrow, so I have to think about it for that much longer.

Holliday needs to be taken out back and put down. Franklin is piece of shit as well. Oh well, here's to hoping the Rockies or Phillies can knock off the Dodgers.

They need somebody who can be dominant in the bullpen (like Chris Perez can be). You had to have known Franklin was going to fall back to earth in a bad way after what he did through most of the season.

I hope Pineiro gets groundballs and pitches better than he has in the past month. The Cardinals better hit Padilla.

well it's not like pujols has been good this series when he does get to hit

10/10/09, 05:15 PM
Why is everyone giving Pujols such a hard time? Its very very hard to have 1 maybe 2 at bats a game where you aren't intentionally walked combined with the fact no one else is driving in any runs. Puts pressure on him to maybe go outside his zone to make stuff happen.

Well, that's a horrible way to end the season. Oh well. I've seen a World Series in 2006, so it's not as rough on me anymore. Still sucks, though.
The Cardinals better hope they can bring back Holliday next year, despite "the play we won't talk about".
Here's hoping I'll have a job in baseball this time next year.
