A documentary on piracy was recently released (http://www.piracydocumentary.com/). It contains interviews with industry execs, copyright lawyers, pirates, consumers, artists, and others. I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but I hear it's pretty good.

rofl omg this is great.

the CRIA guy just said "there's all these studies out there saying that people are buying more music BECAUSE they are downloading, but when we ask canadians, they say the opposite"

dude swears some poll they put out (probably on the CRIA newsletter or something) beats studies ahahahaha

i'm listening to this while i work and it's really interesting.

i'm glad the lady that works with the theater actually mentioned popcorn and stuff. most of the theater interviews don't even mention it. i don't really go to theaters much in orlando but i got to sunset or the falls when i'm in miami. i would guestimate by looking at the lines and the prices at sunset, on a friday night, they pull in $1000 in food/drink sales per movie per showing. maybe that number is low i donno

I hate that whole argument. Just because an artist has made a lot of money, why is it wrong for them to make more money off something they CREATED or WORKED on? Maybe bill gates or steve jobs shouldn't make money off their software because they've made billions.

Stealing is stealing, why don't people understand the artists aren't the only ones making money off of the music. There are so many other people whose jobs rely on your $10-$12. I can't wait to watch this documentary. I wish more people knew how things really work.

it got taken down, the guy used music that was under copyright, so they called him and told him to remove the link
Hahahah that's funny.

I download music. And then I buy the music I download. I had told a friend at school that I just purchased Relient K's Apathetic EP off iTunes and she's like "Ugh why? I can get it for free on Limewire." I just love having the actual CD, although I didn't get that for Relient K but that's because I was naive. I just buy my CDs from Best Buy or Target now.

Steve Jobs stopped taking money from Apple and only gets 1 dollar a year from Apple. I worry more about the poor souls working at McDonalds then I do these high payed artists. Maybe if they didnt blow the money on diamond teeth I would have more of a heart.

what people dont realize is, the artist isnt the only one involved in making an album. There are producers, engineers, marketing specialists, a&r reps, tour managers, managers, agents, booking agents, promoters, etc...etc...etc... Dont they all deserved to get paid too? When you download aan album you arent really hurting the artists, but you are hurting all those hundreds of other people that helps put that album in your hands.

i don't give a shit what anyone says to me about piracy and how it "affects" artists... i know personally these days i download about 400x music as i used to.. butsince i started downloading music, my cd collection has grown from 4 cds to 126... about 115 of those cds i would have NEVER heard without downloading the album first. i know i'm probably in a minority here, but personally, if anything my downloading has helped the industry

I wish more people knew how things really work.Honestly, bro, I couldn't care less about John Smith (major label exec) or Bobby Teenager (A&R) when I buy a cd, I care about the band/artist. When I buy a cd, it's just so the band gets those 10-15 points off of it, not so the dudes at the label making like 80 points on a cd have a few more bucks in their money pile.

Also, this wasn't a shot at you, I see that you do work for or have a label, but this is about majors and many bigger indies.

What you dont realize is the post about 5 above you saying basically the exact same thing. And I think most people do realize exactly what you said. I dont think that most people have a problem with record companies not wanting cds being illegally downloaded; people have problems with record companies being money hungry whores who do everything they can to screw over the comsumer. If the companies were reasonable about issues, the whole debate could have been over a long time ago.
