The MLB needs to expand to a "if you missed a call that was that obvious/blatant, you're fucking fired" policy.

They had their chances and just couldn't convert - the Twins have no one to blame but themselves and Carlos Gomez (although the ump did miss a big call - I'll give them that).

rcrook

The ump fucked up but you deserve to lose if you leave 17 on base including bases loaded with 0 outs and you make a bonehead play like Carlos Gomez. LastPlaceRocks has it right and isn't looking at it like a total homer. It sucks that it happened but its not like the Twins didnt have chances

True, although it doesn't make it easier.

alexanderthegr8
10/10/09, 12:58 AM
you would think the game was changed because of that and maybe it was but you cant predict what happens after that. Man on 2nd no one out, you might bunt, girardi might change pitchers, hitters play different. So you can't say anything. Sure it might have been different but it didn't cost the twins the game they did. up 2 with 3 outs left couldnt close it, and having bases loaded and no one out. In the heat of the moment so quick, 9/10 of us would call that foul. They don't have the pleasure to see it on a high angle, slowed down, 20 times.

eags2
10/10/09, 06:29 AM
thats why youre supposed to convert on your chances and not leave the game in anyone elses hands but your own

it was a bad call, but it doesn't decide the game. really tough for twins fans but all these yankee fans apologizing for the umps - give me a break. this place would be in an uproar if it was the other way around.

I've always thought you can't assume what would have happened after a missed call. You never know if Girardi would've switched pitchers or if they would've changed up the pitch calling. The inning could have easily ended on that double. I think it was acutally beneficial for the Twins that it was a foul ball because they ended up loading the bases with no one out.

i agree with this. i think some people call it the fallacy of the predetermined outcome. it's easy to think if cuzzi gets that call right mauer easily comes around to score, but like you said, things could have gone a lot differently as far as calling the game, pitching changes, etc.

Anyways, I'm worried if the Yanks play the Angels. I'm a huge Yankees fan, but I really think it'll be a close series. Would much rather see them play the Red Sox IF they make it to the ALCS. But yeah, my prediction: Yankees-Dodgers World Series.

Absolutely. The yankees have been miserable against the angels for years. even with this awesome team they have now, they still couldn't beat the angels much this year.

Lackey, Weaver, and Kazmir is a much better three some than Lester, Beckett, and Bucholz, especially up against Sabathia, Burnett, and Pettitte.

Just think what would happen if the world series ended on some epic yankee walk off win. the radio call would be played for years and years, like the Bobby Thomson giants call. Could you imagine how sad it would be if "You're on the mark, texieria! He sends a tex message" or "The Melk Man Delivers...That's the Melky Way!" are the only remnants left of an iconic yankee victory.

It would be sad. And funny. Mostly sad though.

the Twins are gonna miss the Metrodome when they have to play in the goddamn snow next year. dumb decision to build a stadium without a roof. i don't care if it has heated grounds or whatever, they're gonna freeze their asses off.

Minneapolis isn't Siberia during the baseball season - it's the same climate as Boston, Pittsburgh, New York, Detroit, Chicago or any other northern climate.
