This week I did recs with Russ of UBM.com.
My recs...
The Forecast (http://www.theforecast.com) - Such a beautifully constructed album. I did not see this coming. It's smoky, it's rustic, it's heartfelt and it's all their own. Plus I love Shannon's voice. I dont know too many others who do.
Fair (http://www.fairforever.com) - Aaron Sprinkle gets busy with indie rock again. And believe it or not he outdoes himself with The Best Worst-Case Scenario. Probably going to be one of my top albums...maybe even number two. Look for me to be oogling over them for the rest of the summer
Paramore (http://www.paramore.net) - I Believe Drew rec'd this last week and I really believe in this band and like I said before I love the swoon of female vocals and rock 'n roll.
Jimmy Eat World (http://www.jimmyeatworld.com), Third Eye Blind (http://www.3eb.com) and City and Colour (http://www.cityandcolour.com) for good measure.
Russ's recs...
Foreign Islands (http://www.myspace.com/foreignislands) – the New York underground is alive…and dancing! Their self-titled EP is what Neon Blonde’s Chandeliers In The Savannah should’ve sounded like.
Drew Danburry (http://www.myspace.com/drewdanburry)– self-proclaimed master of "sex rock", Utah's version of Bright Eyes writes a near perfect sonnet without the pretentiousness that comes inherent with a name like Conor.
Amestory (http://www.myspace.com/amestory) – Mike Russell is Ben Gibbard 2.0 in this Thousand Oaks, CA, band. Their S/T full length was easily one of my top 10 releases of 2005. If you’re at all a fan of Death Cab For Cutie or Badly Drawn Boy you owe it to yourself to check these guys out.
Drew Isleib (http://www.myspace.com/drewisleib) - Sitting around the living room of ten strangers who would sooner embrace Karl Marx than Sufjan Stevens, I saw one of the best performances ever given in any venue regardless of crowd or space. The man behind the acoustic was a 20-something New Yorker on the umpteenth night of a nationwide living room tour. Always grinning, there's nothing decidedly emo about Isleib. Nope, but he does deliver some of the best campfire/couch songs outside of Eudora, Kansas.
Struckdown (http://www.myspace.com/struckdown) - Talk about “Youth Crew” hardcore, the boys in Struckdown look like they could easily be roaming the hallways of your local high school…not the upperclassman hallways, either. Make no mistake though, there’s nothing Drive Thru about this band’s puritanical posi-core. Gabriel Poland’s vox are nasty enough to make a believer even out of the most grizzled East Coast veteran.
